    • Well, last week I went to talk to someone at the information desk at an Austin area DPS, and unfortunately she thought I knew what I was doing, so that was worthless since she just nodded her head. Today I went in and pleaded total ignorance and found out what I'm supposed to do. In theory. Note: if you're looking at this much after, say, 3Q 2024, you should probably check it out yourself because change is constant. I think the days of riding in with your RV and taking the written and driving test in the same hour are long gone. My situation is that I'm a current Texas Class C (automobile, light truck, hippy van, etc.) license holder, and I'm going for a Class A Non-CDL (some say exempt) license because I'll be driving a truck and fifth-wheel combination with a GCWR of 26,001 pounds or more, and the GVWR of the vehicle(s) towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds. What I was told was to make an appointment by going to https://public.txdpsscheduler.com, sign in, and choose the Drivers License Services > Change, Replace or Renew Texas DL/Permit (again, I have a Class C). At that appointment I should bring with me a birth certificate or a passport (despite my having a valid Class C TX license). I should also be prepared to take only the Texas Commercial Rules Exam, which is only Chapter 14 of the Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers Handbook. And this makes sense since, for example, there are clearance marker rules for trailers > 30' length. The result of taking a test is a restricted Class A license so that I can do behind-the-wheel training with someone with an equivalent license or better in the passenger seat of the truck. So now I have to find a warm body with a Class A to ride with me while I practice. I'll need to check with my insurance company to see what their liability exposure is should I have an accident and the other party wants to play lawyer games. I might consider a course. And then I can make an appointment for the driving test. All this is still theory. I'll let you know what happens in practice.
    • Updated price. Taking it to the dealer by the end of this week.
    • I can provide more guidance if I knew if the RV was a 50 Amp (power cord would be four No 6 Conductors and use a NEMA 14-50P 4 Pin Plug) orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr a 30 Amp (power cord would be three No 10 Conductors and use a NEMA TT-30P 3 Pin Plug to match the receptacle shown on the picture you posted) REGARDLESS  A) If its a 30 Amp RV you can plug direct into the gensets 30 Amp Receptacle which can supply 120 Volts and 30 Amps.                           If its a 50 Amp RV and the genset only has the receptacles shown in the picture, then you can use a 50 F to 30 M Dogbone Adapter so you can get that 50 Amp Power Cord plugged into the genset.  You are still limited to the 5000 Watts the genset can supply and whatever further limitations many be imposed due to the available receptacles and how they are configured and protected. I take it you DO NOT have a 50 Amp 4 Pin NEMA 14-50R Receptacle on that genset ??????????    Let me know John T
    • I cannot believe it's been almost 11 years since I took possession of my "Home on Wheels" in 2013.  It's not been trouble free, but I'm pretty sure this thing will outlast me, so it's time for some upgrades and fixes.  As I was loading my Jeep after the 2023 HDT Rally I found a very soft spot in the garage floor where the two doors come together. I'd known that there was significant "Condensation" that would gather on the metal around and between the doors and I'd wipe it off as often as I could, but apparently not enough to prevent the plywood to become very soft. Have yet to decide what will happen with the door. It won't be the same I know that for sure. Stopped by the "Factory" on my way to my current location and discussed the fix, haven't heard back yet on my ideas. So I'm starting to tear things apart to see how extensive the fix might be.  The last of the E-Track was taken up and oops also came a section of the floor covering. (not the first).  Planning on doing an Epoxy cover this time. Should have done it the first time and maybe the floor wouldn't have rotted. The E-Track is gone forever. It's in the way in way too many areas and only a small portion of it was ever used. Plan to put heavy rings in the floor in 4  locations and will use axle straps unless someone can offer and convince another option. Lots of screws removed.      So now do I completely remove the flooring? Do I need to put something over it after removal and before the final fix?  Heading out to shop for floor covering.  Rod
