lappir
The time has changed again this morning while I slept last night. One clock showed 5am and of course my "Smart Phone" showed the real time of 4am when I woke up. It's going to take me forever to reset my internal clock and then by the time I get comfortable it will be time to change it back again. Why in this day and age of 24 hour everything, do we need to mess with TIME???? It's not going any where, it will always be there and who really pays attention to it anyway. Unless I am on my way to work or it's getting close to time to quit work for the day I could care less what time it is. In my younger days, sure there were more reasons, but what about the youth of today. Most likely there are none up at this hour and most certainly not reading the RVNETWORK Sharing the Fulltime Lifestyle Forum. It's one of the many things on my mind this morning about the Madness in the world. This is the most benign. Barbaraok
One of the reasons we love being in Arizona when the time change occurs around the country - no time changing here. We do have one clock/radio that somewhere has a code line for time change and I haven't figured out how to get rid of that, but that's the only one. Only affect here is that the times for TV programs that synch with New York change, but we're retired and flexible. Velos
There is hope: Until 2018, none of the hundreds of bills under consideration passed. However, in 2018, California and Florida voted to make DST permanent and, in 2019, an additional six states passed legislation to place the state on year-round DST, if authorized by Congress. Utah passed a resolution urging Congress to authorize year-round DST in a resolution but did not commit the state to do so. Source: https://www.ncsl.org/research/transportation/daylight-savings-time-state-legislation.aspxBackground The U.S. had daylight saving time (DST) as early as 1918, with the current federal policy being enacted in 1966, as the Uniform Time Act. Several changes occurred along the way, mostly changing the dates of starting and ceasing DST. The current enactment was part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The U.S. Department of Transportation is the federal agency responsible for overseeing DST and the country’s time zones. All states but Hawaii and Arizona (except for the Navajo Nation) observe DST. The territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands also do not observe DST. Federal law allows a state to exempt itself from observing daylight saving time, upon action by the state legislature to do so but does not allow the permanent observance of DST. Twotoes
Nixon, during his Presidency, had year round DST as a way to save energy. Where else besides the USA is daylight savings time observed? Would it be disruptive on a global basis if the USA went year round? Things to consider. Velos
It appears by the map below (better viewed at the source link) the trend is away from daylight savings and looks like more do not observe than do observe? Most areas in Europe and North America observe daylight saving time (DST), whereas most areas of Africa and Asia do not. In South America, most countries in the north of the continent near the Equator do not observe DST, whereas Paraguay and most of Chile do. The practice of observing daylight saving time in Oceania is also mixed, with New Zealand and parts of southeastern Australia observing DST, while most other areas do not.SOURCE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time_by_country Daylight saving time by country as of March 2020 Northern Hemisphere summer Southern Hemisphere summer Never used daylight saving Formerly used daylight saving

Kirk W
I really envy those who consider the changing of time to be their most important problem. Personally, I would prefer permanent daylight saving, or why not just go back the the time as it was before daylight saving was invented? Then if we don't like the times that things start and stop compared to the time of sunrise and sunset, we could just change our work day from 7am to 4 pm, or something of that sort. Ray,IN
The history of time zones and DST there is no longer a valid need for DST IMO. In the past 50 years the reason big business in Indiana gives for observing DST is to stay on the same time as NYC and the stock market. That IMO is not a valid reason either. When I was a child, Dad milked the cows during the winter, I milked during the summer. This kept the cows on the same milking schedule year around.
