Alaska bound travellers

Recommended Posts

This is aimed at Dave Larue, and Rickeieio, specifically, but is open to any other travellers. If there's interest in a farm visit and lunch out, we have contacts to a medium size farm locally. It's a grain operation, running around 50 quarter sections. I've got some other contacts for other day trips, some involving fermented grains. Let us know if there's any interest.

I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again.

We got contacts involving distilled grain products, too. Not that skunky bourbon, mind you. Mostly Canadian Rye whiskey, along with some birch tree Gin, and some kinda Vodka. We got us an airport, so as not to exclude the more sedentary members.

We'll eventually get there.  We're currently in South Dakota, and plan to move to North Dakota in a few days.  It'll likely be another 10 days or more before we wander in to Grande Prairie.

So, a medium size farm is 8,000 acres?  That's huge by my standards.  At my peak, I only farmed 990, with an average field size of 32 acres.

The "fermented grains" sounds interesting.  Not being a bourbon fan, the rye sounds nice.

Well, their neighbours happen to be a couple Hutterite colonies, so... I might be wrong on their total acreage, but I think I'm close. As you get further from the farm, I don't want you to forget words like rhizome, and Post-emergent. I think you've sampled Crown Royal, in all it's varieties, but that's a Rye set for an American taste. Most of the Ryes I used to prefer weren't as sweet, and had a fuller taste. All of our local micro-distilleries have award winning labels in various world competitions, so we're pretty proud of them. I think they all have a brandy style liqueur based on a local fruit, the Saskatoon. We got lots to entertain around here.

I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again.

We're running a little behind where I thought we might be.  We're in Moose Jaw at the moment.  We're (hopefully) getting the refrigerator repaired in the morning, then may stop in Saskatoon in the afternoon to visit an old motorcycle friend.  Likely roll into Grande Prairie Thursday-ish.

Don't be in a rush, let the weather warm a bit more. 35* last night. 60* yesterday. Good snuggling weather.

Yessir.  We are indeed here in Whitecourt.  Stayed last night just west of Lloydminster.

Lawrence, aren't you somewhere near Edmonton?  Traffic and construction there was not fun.

I was about 45 minutes from Rolling Greens RV park :) I tried to send a pm yesterday and received a “no can receive messages” response I prolly broke the system who knows…

You guys have a great trip.

"Are we there yet?" asked no motorcycle rider, ever.

We stayed at CampNrv, just west of Lloyd.  We'll meet up someday......

When we went to our site here in Grande Prairie, there was a string across the site with balloons spelling "50".  thank you Darryl and Rita.
