dimar
Hi all! I did not see an Alaska 2024 forum thread (just a maybe thread), so I decided to start one for all of us SKPers that are heading there. We are, Diane and Andy, and we are heading there this spring. We hope to cross into Canada around early May and into Alaska in Junish.... Probably heading back Septemberish... We were there in 07 and in 09 and met so so many folks along the way. SO! I decided to start this to share our experiences along the way. 2gypsies
Have a great trip! We drove up a few times and absolutely loved it. No issues with any repairs or windshields. We replaced all our tires before leaving on the last trip. I think newbies need to keep in mind not to drive fast and if on a gravel section pull over as far as possible or even stop completely if no one is behind you and wait for the oncoming vehicle to pass. That prevents a lot of rock throwing. The only reservations we made (about 3 weeks prior when we could better judge when we'd be in the area) were for the July 4 weekend (Alaskans like to camp, too) and for our stay in Teklanika campground in Denali - the farthest one you can drive. As it turned out, we were in the area early so on a whim we boondocked nearby and drove into the park early morning. We easily secured an additional 5 nights in the front campground, Riley Creek. Staying in the park for 10 nights we saw THE mountain 7 of the 10 days in full sunshine nearly all day. (Beautiful weather on our trip) We also saw every one of the 'big' animals in the park. We liked to go up on the Alaskan Hwy and return on the Cassier. We also did the Top of the World Hwy. Being able to spend the whole summer on this trip is the way to go! rickeieio
Just found this thread. My child bride and I are leaving south-east Indiana in a few days to meander to Alaska. We took the old rig up there in 2010, the year we turned 60 and celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. Now, 10 years later, we're going again, and not being in any hurry. So far, I have one night's reservation in Wisconsin, and plan to stop in South Dakota and North Dakota to visit friends. All other plans are cast in jello. We'll likely roll into Grande Prairie for a night or two, and visit with Darryl and Rita, from this forum. If you see a bright red KW hauling a white smart car, and towing a red/white/black Newmar toyhauler. that'd be us. We're busier this year, to date than last, so reach out a day or three before you arrive. Make sure you get a spot. kb0zke
The original plan was for us to go to Alaska this year. In fact, we should have been a little ways into Canada now. Plans changed and now Alaska is on for 2025. dimar
Thanks Bill Joyce for the shot out. I am a little behind in my blog posts because of internet issues but hopefully will be caught up within the next few days. We have met a few SKPS along the way but it seems that FB is the new forum. Oh well... But I still like my blog and other bloggers - LOL! Old school I guess.. Hope all is well! Quote Diane (and Andy, too) Our blog:

Joe L.
Does anyone know of a van rental company that rents one way from the continental states to Alaska? Could pick up in Dallas/Oklahoma City/Wichita/Kansas City/Denver. Any help is appreciated.
Kirk W
Cruise America has small class C rentals available. If you want just a van then pretty much any car rental agency will have those but not configured as an RV. For class B rental, the only one I know for sure is Outdoorsey with privately owned ones. Just do a Search on Google and lots of ideas appear: https://gonorth-alaska.com/specials/one-way-specials/ Edited September 1 by 2gypsies Quote Full-timed for 16 YearsTraveled 8 yr in a 2004 Newmar Dutch Star 40' Motorhome and 8 yr in a 33' Travel Supreme 5th Wheel
rickeieio
So, we made it back in one piece. The only issue we had on the entire 79 day trip was a stripped out canopy drive. Found a rv dealer who had a used one and had it installed. We drove 10,1xx miles with no flat tires, no broken windows, and slightly deflated wallets. Came back through BC on the Cassiar. I gotta say, in our opinion, BC is the crown jewel of North America.
