I'm new on this forum however I've been lurking around for a while. I was looking for a way to haul my CAN-Am Spyder on a truck bed DW did not want a toy hauler. So it was up to me to find a way to get it all together.

I saw a post for sale by Martin down in Florida for his VolVo 610. After talking to him I took a leap of faith rode the bike from Louisiana to Fl. When I got there the truck was like he told me, after a short test drive I bought the truck loaded the bike on back and headed back home. Sure the truck has a lot of miles but i believe it will do us just fine.

We hope to retire in 2 years so I have time to work on some small things.

I will attach a pic shortly. But the truck is already in hdt bed and trucks called Ole Copper Head.

I have to build in between the bed and cab in order to load spyder length wise.. I'm working on a set of ramps that will be 3 sections 25" wide and 14 ' long. They will hinge and fold to about 53". Plan to use as side boards if all goes well. Still some head scratching to do on that.

Hi oldride,

Welcome to the forum. Nice looking truck. I load my RZR sideways on the deck of my truck. Drive it right up the ramps in low gear.

Enjoy your new ride,

Al

I'm not sure why the Spyder cannot be side loaded. I've seen them loaded this way before. Is there a reason not to do that?

Congrats on the truck. You should plan to come to the Hutchinson Rally.

They are over 8.5' long, but since it's just tires that overhang might be able to get away with it.

Our smarts are also overlength (overwidth). I don't know of anyone that has had an issue with that. I personally would side-load, since it is easier. But that is up to you.

We have a Smart, a Street Glide, and a CanAm Spyder. Normally, I expect to carry the Smart on the truck and and the bikes in the toyhauler. However, under certain circumstances, being able to carry the Harley or the Spyder on the truck could be pretty handy. So we will have (shortly) 3 ramps 12" x 14' that fold and are secured to the side of the truck bed with RIVnuts when loading / unloading. That will reduce the breakover angle enough to load the Spyder without dragging. I'll ride the ramps to load & unload. Since I have the other two ramps to use for my feet (and balance) I can also load the Street Glide the same way. Ramps will fit either side of the bed, so it's at least possible to ride "up and over" instead of "up and back down"
