  1. That's great to hear, Mike. I'm looking forward to seeing that thing hooked up to your trailer and headed down the road.
  2. I am. I have a few more design revisions I would like to apply on the next kit. I don't have a truck lined up, but I would definitely like to get another bed kit out there.

    Rent a HDT?

My thoughts exactly on the jumping through hoops issue. I was thinking a small, light VNL630, to be as efficient as possible.

    Rent a HDT?

I agree with the costs. However, if you think about the freedom and peace of mind that type of service would provide, it may be worth it. To be clear, this wouldn't be me. I have no time whatsoever. Maybe I could talk my Dad into it. I just want to build the truck.

    Rent a HDT?

Ironically, I was just thinking about this on the way in to work today. The best part about owning a HDT is actually towing the 5er. I was thinking about it more from the commercial side, though. What are your thoughts on the viability of a 5er moving service? Clearly, this would be a commercial venture, but I was thinking along the lines of someone building a HDT setup with a good air ride hitch, Smart car platform, etc, specifically for the purpose of moving other people's trailers. This type of service would be great for full timers that stayed in the same place for a month or two (or more) at a time. All you would need to do is schedule your move. Then the moving service could swoop in, hook up your trailer and transport it to the next location. They could even set it up and have it all connected when you got there, allowing you to drive in your POV from campground to campground. Oddly enough, the loading, setup, and transport of RV'ing are probably my favorite parts of the process. That's when the true adventure takes place.
  6. Thanks. I'm already planning the next one. I would like to build one or two for someone else soon. I don't have time to spend weeks away from home like before, but I could definitely build a HDT given enough of a timeline.
  7. That's the driving idea behind FollowMyBuild - sharing and learning. The videos above should walk you through posting your photos. The user experience isn't perfect yet, but we're getting there. Let me know if you have any issues.
  8. Al, After logging in, click on the gallery phase of your build. The Gallery phase should be the phase in the top left, on the build page. From there, click on the red "Update Phase" button near the top right of the page. After that, you will see a screen like pictured below. From the "Update Phase" page, you can either drag and drop your files into the box on the right, or click in the box to open up a browse dialog where you can select your photos. After you have your photos added, the Save button will turn red and you can click Save to continue. From there, you can follow the video linked above called "Forum Photo Embed". Good luck!
  9. Well, it was a sad weekend for me, but happy in the sense that Willy will live on in another family. I sort of feel like I just sent my first child off to his first job in some far off part of the country. Mike, who goes by MikenRobin here on the forum, is the new owner of my truck. He has some big plans for it and I hope to be able to help him make the changes he needs. I'm in withdrawals already, but I know it was the right decision and I look forward to seeing the truck get back to work. 10. If you ever need anything drawn up, just let me know. I'll be glad to help. You could always throw in some low voltage LED accent lighting in the vent holes! http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xcompressor.TRS0&_nkw=ambient+led&_sacat=0
  11. That looks great! The next truck I build, I will start with a blank canvas like that. I like where you're headed.
  12. Thanks for the nod! For what it's worth Colin Maclemore, the owner of Mac's and I, have talked quite a bit since I reached out to him about our Smart car needs a year or so ago. I completely trust his products without hesitation. They have worked well for me and are very flexible. View High Resolution Photo View High Resolution Photo View High Resolution Photo

    National HDT Rally

Now I'm really bummed I didn't make it...
  14. The trophies and plaques are cheap. Nothing like spending tens of thousands of dollars on a race car to win a $5 trophy.
