Yeah...I was a little confused about the Facebook HDT group myself. I posted the broken axle thread and when I saw the Facebook mentioned...that was the very first time I had seen it.

Phil, it would be amusing to see you deal with the Facebook crowd. There are some "world class" arguers over there.  And of course, like all of Facebook, no one is ever wrong.

Like some of the others, I use both. 2 different presentations and has been said tend to compliment each other. I also concur that when using any internet connected device you gave up anything from some to all of your privacy, depending upon the entity that wants your information, you have little or no control over that. But numbers are on your side, there is so much data floating around the chances of you being picked out of the crowd and harm done is akin to getting hit by lightning.

2.3 billion users can't be all wrong. Has the original idea been whored? You bet it has. The naivete displayed by the general public about this sort of thing is breath taking. Advertising is Advertising. Don't forget one industry managed to convince billions of people  to light a white stick of tobacco on fire, put it in their mouth and suck on it. And another has done well putting sugar, water, coloring and fizz in a cup and convincing you it is the most refreshing conconction ever invented.

And we haven't even gotten to the Ginzu Knives......

You better tread lightly Jeff. You are getting close to starting an argument. Don't mess with a man's addiction.

Social media has been a great "equalizer" as a lot more people can join in the conversation. So you have those who speak from learned ideas and those who can back up their statements by actual life experiences, being joined in the "conversation" by the opinionated and also by the truly ignorant. Isn't anonymity great ?!

Certain amount of anonymity exists on this forum but dumb opinions, or statements are immediately confronted by those who speak from experience, so it's harder to sow misinformation here and "opinionated" are quickly exposed here.

With a tongue in cheek, I liken the behavior on social media to our political system and democracy, everybody has a right to  be "represented". Looking at our Congress I see a substantial contingent, particularly among reps who gamely represent the ignorant.

I am still amazed at how rude and cruel people can be when hiding behind the keyboard. That said.....We just had a local incident where a guy recognized another from a FB disagreement at the mall and punched him in the back of the head! Not sure if the guy deserved it or not, but it goes to show you how butthrt people can be be either being harassed or losing an argument online.

I have been relatively FB free the past 6 months without much of a thought of participating UNTIL I found yet a few more sources of HDT information in it. Any idea why there are so many HDT pages? Seems counterproductive to have the info spit up in to separate pages of the same format. Maybe drama I'm not aware of?

Anyone can start a FB group, so there almost always tends to be multiple ones on the same topic. Here's all the HDT groups I know about. I enjoy the HDT groups on FB and where i tend to spend most of my time. I'm a member of all the HDT groups I can find and admin/moderate on a couple of them. Each group tends to have it's own flavor and you get different things out of each.

HDT'shttps://www.facebook.com/groups/418646581821896/ - This group was started by Richard Oder around the 2017 ECR. This was the first HDT group I joined on FB and became a moderator on the group helping out with it as it grew. Richard prefers to keep this group to actual HDT owners or future HDT owners that are current RV'ers and have an interest in HDT. It's currently the largest HDT group with around 1400 members. The group was growing pretty fast early on. and was the first time where many of us realized how many other HDT owners were out there and didn't even realize it as they were never part of a forum like this. It was pretty crazy actually seeing all the other HDT's out there that have never been part of this forum. There are quite a few classic HDT owners and many trucks other than just Volvo's. The HDT admins try to keep the atmosphere fun without any personal attacks, etc which makes it a nice group to visit.

HDT - Heavy Duty Trucks for RVing - https://www.facebook.com/groups/HDTRVs/ - This group was started by Budd Nash, even before the above HDT group and probably one of the first HDT groups out there on FB. It remained relatively small for awhile while the HDT group was growing pretty quickly. I contacted Budd and asked if he wanted any assistance with the group and I since help admin this group. It's not as large as the HDT group, but is growing and developing nicely. This group is about 660+ members and growing.

HDT RVhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/1752108481675511/ - This is a 3rd HDT Group that was started by Michael Moore. I'm only a member of this group and don't know much about it. It's only about 300+ members at this time and a relatively quiet group.

Escapees Heavy Haulers BoF (formerly MDT BoF) - https://www.facebook.com/groups/703359589702453/ This group shows Arthur & Caroline Fennell as the admins and was probably started as a subset of the Escapees since it's listed as a BOF group for Heavy Haulers. It's not very active and about 360 members.

HDT OWNERS GROUP - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1675787765838547/ - This group was started by Brett Wicket and is brand new just started in the past week or so with only about 40 members so far. Brett did start this group as he was having disagreements with the admins on the HDT Group and wanted a group where actual HDT owners could have real discussions and not constantly get moderated. He also wanted it as a place to discuss bed builds since he just went through that himself.  He does limit this group to actual HDT owners only.

It is so much easier than this website for posting pictures and a lot of stuff. I like it a lot better but I am probably on the younger side of the people on the forum.

I use both as I said earlier and agree with what has been written in many ways. First it is much easier to use my phone with facebook than the escapees website. If I take a picture of something, using my phone and I want to post it on the HDT site on Face book I open my face book account, click on the post something and pick the pictures I want to post. I never post on this site because it is to much of a hassle. I just pick the pictures and post. No I am not afraid of  somebody getting my personal information. 4 years ago somebody went to the post office, filled out a mail forwarding slip and had my mail forwarded to their address. I got a 3 bills from credit cards I had never opened and was 30,000.00 in debt. Luckily I had a friend at Metro in Las Vegas and he got me in touch with the Identity theft unit and it was all taken care of. So why write those last few lines..... if somebody wants your identity they are going to get it.

Plus as mentioned by others facebook is more free and friendly for posting opinions and you don't have people looking at everything you post to send you a nasty gram saying your violating some rule. On facebook you are allowed to have more of a personality than on this website. Yes I still use this site and post stuff but facebook is a lot more relaxed and not as rules oriented. I don't think there are 15 people looking over your shoulder to see what you wrote just for the sake of checking on what you wrote to see if it follows the rules.

I see people posting stuff like this and I wonder why.  I have never experienced anything like this on the forum and I am sorry if others have.  I have had people disagree with me, but I expect that.  Not everyone has the same opinions.  I have also agreed to disagree with some people here on the forum in general.  I just know we have differing viewpoints and and with some people we will never align so I don't engage for the sake of arguing.  I have posted literally thousands of times here (like everyone, I lost some post count numbers at the last forum upgrade) and never felt or perceived or received any comment/notification that I was in some way breaking a rule.  I tend to only post when I feel I have something to add to a topic or I feel strongly about something.  I don't generally post just to post (which in my opinion happens a lot on Facebook).

I have posted a few dozen times on the various Facebook pages and have already been chided because my experience didn't jive with the original poster on a topic and therefore I must be wrong and also had an entire topic removed from the page because I took an opposing stance to the OP (backed up with reference material and facts) and that person didn't like what I was saying.  There is some decent information on some of the Facebook posts, but there is also a lot of BS you have to sift through over there to find that information.  Just my opinion, but I think the information to BS ration is a lot better here.  I will say some of the Facebook HDT pages are better than others.  I will also say I am not a big fan of Facebook in general.  If it wasn't for a couple of groups I monitor there, I probably wouldn't go to the site very often.

Here too.

One thing I've noticed, is that those who gravitate towards Facebook tend to bounce around, and not post a conclusion to a thread they've started.  I suppose we're all guilty of that to some extent, but kids (anyone under 50) seem to be worse.;)

I use all sights for what they are intended to be.  Maybe I am more of a Lurker since I am still so new and climbing the learning curve.  But as I learn about my truck and everything about it with the help of those that have shared their journey.  It is here that I turn to the most and with the HDT pushing 64500 posts in the Escapee's forums pretty big fountain of information and accomplishment.  I would post more pictures here but it is so much easier on the social media sights to post.  Why because I am not restricted to file size and the ease of using the phone to accomplish what I would like to show. The phone is my computer, storage device, and camera all in one...... oh yea, I did say phone didn't I?  It doesn't matter what subject I bring up there will always be someone more in tune and will correct me if I am wrong.  Do I get butthurt? Nah just use the constructive criticism to find the real truth whether they are right or I find out they are wrong.

All avenues of information are only as good as those who participate and everyone has something to offer if you are willing to keep an open mind and listen to what you read. Age, race, cultural area, religion, everyone has something I can use to be a better, smarter person if I give them a chance.

Tom,

I couldn't agree more! Well said. With facebook you don't have to download anything extra and you can easily post as many pictures as you would like to.

Whew.  At 47, I'm not the punk kid of the group.  That's all you 'Vegas...

Hey you are very welcome! I am happy to be of service. Have you ever been a part of the ELK's club? I was for 5 years, I was an officer on the way up the ladder and was going to be the Exulted Ruler, but I was the youngest in the club by about 15 years. Those old guys were a bunch of fun, I just did not have the same amount of spare time on my hands as they did to do things for the club. I did, however, learn a lot from their stories, and hearing stories of the old "Las Vegas" when it was a family ran town vs. corporate ran town differ greatly.

Now that's funny right there.

I loved the God Father movies, thanks for that picture............ I also loved Good Fella's and Casino but The God Father is the best, I wish they would make another one to show where the families are now.

Our Schutzhund club has a lot of police officers and retired police officers, LEO's and Military people in it. The older police officers often talk about when we were a "Family" ran town too. They say that the overall crime rate was a lot less and the feel on the strip was a lot more friendly, as long as you played by the rules LOL!

Sorry I got a little off topic, please don't be upset.
