Congratulations! When you stick it out what they say in the ceremony about the two shall become one really does happen. We have several friends who lost their partner in the past couple of years which makes a person think. We reach 60 years in December.

Derek, I've been married a total of 60 years (2 wives) I can safely say "any man who thinks he's the boss in the  marriage must be delusional".

The best marriages are equal partnerships. They may each have an area of focus but they consult one another before making big decisions in every area.

Congratulations to you both! My bride and I have enjoyed each other for 58 years so far, so keep doing what you're doing!

Hey man! 58 years - that is great! In our late thirties we were the only couple still on their first marriage. Made us feel a bit out of place when we were going around asking an we had been married almost 20 years and most other just a few to 5 or six. We actually joked about getting divorced and remarried. 😦

Thanks Kirk and 'grats backatcha. We are fortunate to be in excellent health other than my back and orthopedic issues. But the stuff that kills ya, well I just dodged a big bullet last year with those PE s in both lungs from a DVT in my leg. Lynda just got a clean bill of health too. I don't do well without a woman's supervision, even a petite one with cajun genes!

Congratulations, Derek!    Couldn't happen to nicer folks.   We hit our 50th on December 1st.   My wife has nicely domesticated me... 🙂

Thanks Jim! Same to you. Although I have yet to meet Alice I have enjoyed the several times we got together. I think she did a great job! Lynda did too!

Congratulations! It is so worth making the effort along the way, isn't it?

Linda

Thanks Linda. Yes it sure is but it wasn't really an effort. I am spoiled and spoil her back. This is the life and love I dreamed of having as a kid.

I can't say how happy I am for you guys. Its a  real blessing in most cases to see this. I certainly am not jealous but at least sometimes am a little envious of couples that have done well together and gone the distance. And more to come I pray.

Thanks big guy! Hope you get your dream too! I feel good about another decade or three. We come from long lived stock both of us in parents and grands. But I had one brother die at 56 of an MI, and another of a stroke at 63 last year. Just being here is enough.

That is a fact. We always have. And we are our own best company except when friends and family visit.

Sharing a sense of humor helps as well. We've been married nearly 55 years and we laugh together several times a day.

I understand that. I graduated from HS at 17 and thought that I was on my own but joined the Navy where there was always a Chief Pettyofficer replacing my mortger. At 20 I got married and moved out of the barracks, thinking that I'd be my own boss at last!  I think maybe a husband is like a well trained dog in that we are lost without authority.  😏

Congratulations, Derek. Last March would have marked 50 for my late wife and me. I thought my life was over - and then Laura came along. You won't have to think too hard to figure out my user name on the forums...

I missed where Derek said that so I am glad Kirk brought it up. I find it ironically funny in a personal way. I have been single since 1980 and mostly happily so for personal reasons BUT I still sometimes say to myself sometimes, " I wish I had a wife to tell me what I want."  I usually just think it but once in line waiting to order food I said it out loud to myself and the lady behind me with her husband heard it and got really offended.  Oh well.  That just goes to show I recognize the value of a good team even after all these years and I certainly do not mean it in any negative way.
