  1. hillcountry, I agree beach sand contains a lot of salt, and it gets EVERYWHERE!
  2. Interesting reading on Social Security:https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/investing/dont-believe-these-social-security-myths
  3. FWIW, I had this problem with our first 5er water heater, I was advised to remove the gas valve end of the thermister/flame sensor and polish both ends with a pencil eraser, then reconnect the end, being careful not to over-compress/crush the end of the wire.It worked and the water never failed again while we owned the 5er.
  4. Our old cell-boosters were constant power, they have the ability to over-power a cell tower signal and can prevent others (without a booster) on the tower fringe from making a call. Newer booster models have a feature to provide just enough variable power to maintain a reliable signal. I know about the registration thing, but I didn't. It's kinda like CB radio several decades ago, you were supposed to apply for and receive a license (mine is KEW0304), however so many folks didn't apply for a license, the FCC eliminated the requirement. I fully expect the same thing with cell-boosters. I keep my Wilson signal booster in the MH, JIC I breakdown where the tower signal is too weak to make a call. No cell-booster can amplify without a signal to-er amplify though.
  5. A man on irv2.com posted his personal experiences with renting his MH, why he stopped, and the reasons he will never rent his MH again.
  6. At least give your Ford dealer a chance to retrieve any codes in the computers before saying they cannot find and fix this issue. IMO they are the most qualified service shop you'll find. We no longer live in a mechanical age. A 15" height difference between MH and towed was not a good choice, now you need a 12" drop receiver hitch to put your setup within the 4" difference band; and be VERY careful where you drive to avoid getting hung on a swag in the pavement.. OTOH, you could buy an enclosed trailer instead of flat-towing.
  7. Then it would be best to stay at St. Mary's, where there are 2 commercial RV parks.
  8. Yes, it's the medical assist program included in the annual dues for FMCA; and frankly the only reason I joined the organization.
  9. Kirk I have had a wireless Voyager rear camera in the MH since 2013. The only time it did not work was when the ground got corroded at the camera. I back our MH into our garage by myself with confidence, using the camera and rear view mirrors.. I have a cheap LeekLoo wireless system off Amazon on my pickup, I got exactly what I paid for=cheap. These cheap wireless systems operate on 2.4 Ghz, which is the same frequency as cordless phones and many other devices. This means it does not work many times and places due to interference.

    Memorial Day

It should be an all-weather flag (think Nylon). BTW, you may purchase them from your local American Legion for less money that anywhere else, if they have this program. I bought a double-sewn nylon flag with embroideryed stars for $5 at my post 2 yrs ago, it still looks new. FYI, Flag etiquette: https://www.va.gov/opa/publications/celebrate/flagdisplay.pdf
  11. X2! I bought a battery-powered LED motion detection light for the steps (5) into our last 5er, the batteries would last a year for our half-timing use. I used double-sided tape to attach it to the inside of the door. When the door was opened in darkness, it detected motion and lit all 5 steps. When the door was closed it detected motion and lit the 4 steps to the bedroom and bathroom. Our MH has these 12V courtesy lights for the steps into the MH, one under the kitchen cabinets to light the floor area, one in bedroom for the same purpose.https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-LED-12V-Courtesy-Lights-RV-Caravan-Trailer-Boat-Marine-Onboard-Accent-Lighting/272207842751?hash=item3f60da0dbf:g:BWUAAOSwVCRZccHj&vxp=mtr
  12. Joel, this is somewhat off-topic, but when we were in Riverview NS we saw two men surfing the river, with the inflow/tide incoming, they were riding a 3' wave, in wet suits of course.
  13. Dave, I missed this video, the very first part shows a semi using them on an ice-covered street to get unstuck. From the video, use on pavement is very hard on tires IMO. Yes Linda, large DP MH's have huge wheels 22.5" rims, a few even have 24.5". The above video shows them used on aluminum rims, and despite the commercial truck admonition the following video shows them used on a pickup and a4x4 on a muddy trail.
  14. I agree completely, I was focusing on rallies in a grassy field, then the rain begins, mud follows.
  15. While perusing the Iowa 80 truck stop website I spied this product for getting out of muddy situations. TruckClaws. IMO they would be much more convenient to put of/remove than tire chains, and the company claims they work better alone or in conjuction with tire chains. Of course they cannot be used on pavement, it would ruin tires, suspension, and possibly drivetrain, then there is the legality of use on paved roads. They are not cheap, however @ $300/pr,(only 1 pr required per drive axle - video) are still much less than a tow bill out of a muddy field.
  16. The legal Memorial Day is May 30, and sadly many have forgotten the reason "Decoration Day" was established Today many say it signals the beginning of summer, and do not know the real reason. Now the rest of the story: http://time.com/5291026/memorial-day-started-birthplace-history/ Thanks for the reminder.
  17. My bad Glenn, I thought I read in your initial post this thing weight 100#, I'm not dyslectic only old. Randy I think the 50A main breaker panel in older RV's have redesigned bus bars that prevent the application of a 240VAC breaker. Of course a new panel may be installed whenever desired. Perhaps one of the sparkys can supply correct information.
  18. Somehow my reply got lost, so I'll try again. When visiting Chicago a must see is the Museum of Science and Industry, what was most interesting to DW was the German WW II submarine on display, guided tours through the sub used to be scheduled daily. The also have RV and bus, day parking (it's best to pre-arrange parking). Come to think about it, I think I replied to your same question on irv2.com
  19. How do you plan to address the kinetic energy weight problem? That link has the equation necessary to calculate this factor, but the speed of vertical movement is an unknown. You will note kinetic energy increases by a factor of four for a specific vertical speed. This is required to insure you do not stop for the night to find the minisplit on the floor, along with some of the roof. An EWAG will not suffice.
  20. Those two I 65 bridges can be avoided by using the by-pass's on both West side of Louisville from/to I 64, the problem with that is you spend more for fuel in a MH than the tolls.KY and IN are building another bypass bridge on the East side of Louisville, however it will be toll also. President Obama proposed making all interstate roads toll roads, to pay for upkeep. There was so much objection from individuals and the trucking industry, he let it die.
  21. Off-topic, not related to RVing; I hadn't given much though to backing into a car space until one time a couple was standing by my truck waiting for me. They had backed in, or pulled through, either way they could not open their hatchback to put their groceries into the car after I had pulled into the space behind them. Why blame me for their actions was my question to them, I was told I should have been more aware and left room for them to open their hatchback. I just tipped my hat, wished them a good day and returned to the store to shop in the fishing equipment section for an hour. I have enough trouble watching my own business.
  22. Next time you wash your EPDM roof, add a few oz. bleach to a 5G bucket of water and car wash soap. I wash my entire RV with this, not only does it remove dirt from everything it removes black spots from the roof, awnings, and vinyl trim. The only thing you should do is rinse thoroughly, as some awnings are sewn with cotton thread; continued exposure will weaken cotton, as you may have noted if you get undiluted household bleach on your blue-jeans. I've been using this to wash my RV's and autos since 1997 without noticing any negative effects.
  23. Vlad, have you ever seen an elk standing in a creek, drinking and pooping at the same time? Also there are germs that live naturally in mountain stream water. There is no such thing today as "pure mountain creek water'. An acquaintance is a guide/outfitter in the Beartooth mountains East of Yellowstone, he will not use or drink creek/stream water in his camps without sterilizing it by boiling first. OH, back to your water flooding issue. Your water heater should have a backflow prevention device in the cold water inlet pipe. If the water was from the water heater the backflow device is faulty.
  24. I have used Rescue Tape to temporarily patch a radiator hose, yes-like their pictures. That temporary radiator hose patch on my farm tractor worked so well, it's still there after 3 years. Etenabond could reliably withstand the heat, pressure, and associated grease and oil typical on a farm tractor. When used as intended, Rescue Tape is unequaled IMO. Rescue Tape cannot be used on a flat surface(patch an awning) like adhesive tape, as it only adheres to itself. I agree, Gorilla Tape is over-rated, used it once, gave the rest of the roll away. If you want a tape that will securely hold something together without breaking, check out Nylon or Fiberglass re-enforced packing tape.
  25. As Lance said, how are you going to re-distribute the load from the cut rafter? You've also got to calculate in, the weight of the people on the roof installing, and eventually working on, the mini-split. Remember, it's not only the actual weight, but the kinetic energy of that actual weight bouncing on the roof while traveling the wonderfully smooth highways. Cutting the hole and constructing the box is easy, compensating for the kinetic energy is not so simple. That might require the services of a structural engineer.
