  1. I thought you just inserted the winding key and turned it for 10 minutes or so to give it a good charge to be able to unlock it.
  2. I'm pretty sure he has a LG mini split like you would have in your home or small office. I can't remember if it has the wall mount inside units or the ceiling mounted inside units. That is why he needs a 240 volt system. There are a lot of Spacecraft customs with one or two exterior units and as many as four indoor units to heat and cool the trailer.
  3. Blues, some other items to consider. If you are using a class 7 or 8 truck to tow your trailer, you are correct that a class C license is all you need when towing a RV. However, when you are bobtailing that truck, you will need a class E or F license IF it is not registered as an RV. A class E or F license is mainly used for farm or fire/rescue use but if you haul your OWN equipment for non commercial use, you will need this class of license as well. Think of a guy bringing his new to him shipping/storage container home or a trailer load of lumber to build his new toy garage. He could be well over the weight limits for a trailer or a truck. Yes, I have a class E in Georgia due to our old "private truck" that had a GVWR of 33K (M2-112 4 dr). The current KW T680 is registered as an RV and eliminated the problem with driving bobtailed.
  4. We have stayed in one park in Miami with another couple and both had out HDT's towing 40+ trailers. Everything, including the smart cars, fit on the site but getting into the park around the other vehicles parking on the side of the road was a bit of a challenge.
  5. LOL, You guys should see the pics of David and Sondra's smart with all of their camping gear for tent camping on the rear platform. We also have racks for our E-bikes that work very well in those receiver hitches. The rack and two bikes weigh about 150 pounds.
  6. I still remember putting a dent in the dash of a '61 Rambler American with my head. So in my case, they are probably a lot safer.πŸ˜€
  7. Rick, those little Honda Civic CCCV cars only weighed 1350 to 1750 pounds. That was the main reason they got such great fuel mileage. Besides the added emission regulations, a lot of other changes eliminated that generation of cars. Crash standards required better front and rear crush zones, crash beams in the doors, safety cells around gas tanks, shoulder belt reinforcement, reinforced roof structures and all of those added a ton of weight. Another thing to remember is that cars then didn't have the "niceties" of today. they had roll up windows, no power seats, no AC, no auto transmissions, no fancy stereo systems, no power, heated, cushy seats and the other items we take for granted nowadays which have pushed the weight of a "basic" Civic to over 3,000 pounds.
  8. We boondock quite a bit and just lock the door. Your best deterrent is a dog, any dog. Thieves like silence and a small yappy rat dog works just as well as a Rottweiler to sound off. Other than that, yes, I do carry and keep personal protection with me all the time and am more than prepared to use it if necessary. Unlike some on here, I would rather be protected and not need it than need it and not have it. Just being in a remote location doesn't guarantee that you will not have late night visitors of the 2 or 4 legged variety.
  9. The software fix for a HDT sensor head has a time limit. You will need to hit up a dealer to get it renewed and if a sensor head is available, they will not renew the software but will install the sensor head. The workaround is not a permanent solution to the DEF sensor head issues at the present time.
  10. I would do it myself but then again, no one ever said I was sane. I just enjoy working on my stuff.
  11. Must have been Dr Who driving to his next takeoff point. TARDIS = Time And Relative Dimension In Space From the Dr Who TV show. It was a combo spaceship and time travel device.
  12. Sometimes I just have fun with folks. When they ask why I have the truck that I do, I reply that I know it is a little small for the job, but I only use it on flat ground and when I need to travel in the mountains, I swap it out for my heavy haul truck. I love the looks on their faces as they try to figure out if I am serious or not.
  13. The last time my chin saw daylight was in the fall of 1974. You have a lot of catching up to do...
  14. Is this a dish washer, clothes washer, an automated car wash???? It would also help if we knew the make and model.
  15. You could also take a look at this park: https://www.adventureoffroadpark.com/ They have 120 trails from mild to wild for 4WD and SxS ORV and LOTS of room for campers (don't have to trail ride to camp there) but they do have two major drawbacks. First is that they host about 20 races a year so you would need to schedulle during an off week and the biggest problem is that it would be boondocking only for most sites No water, sewer or power which wouldn't affect some of our crowd but would eliminate a lot of others being able to enjoy the experience. They do have a limited numer of water and electric sites available but not sure about a dump station for sewer. It can also get a bit loud from the open frame contractor generators running at the Tennessee redneck's campers to keep their beer cold....
  16. When calling DTV support, as soon as someone answers that is located in an Indian call center, ask to be transfered to a USA support center. Don't take any BS answer from them, demand to be transfered. The last few times I have had to call them, I have had great service from American support people that are HAPPY you ask for them. We have had DTV approximately 25 years and yes, the service went down the tubes when AT&T bought them (I HATE AT&T by the way) but out here in the hinterlands or while RV'ing, we didn't have many options until recently. I now have fiber optic at our house and just added Starlink for the RV and we are reviewing whether to downgrade to basic DTV or eliminate it all together.
  17. The problem is that you will never be able to reload that case again.
  18. You can't call it a "tranny" anymore. It is a gender neutral, gear changing device.
  19. Being SOL just means you use grease on the top plate.
  20. I'm pretty sure the noise is from Carl dragging the trailer thru the gravel. When we got to the ECR this year, I thought they were digging trenches to lay a new 12" water line but no, it was just Carl getting into his site....πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜Ž
  21. That sticky snot is holding your lube plate on...
  22. LDT's are class 1, 2 and 3 MDT's are class 4, 5 and 6 HDT's are class 7 and 8 and start with a GVWR of 26,001 pounds and up.
  23. I use over the wheel straps. The baskets can give you issues with the brake lines, and I have never liked putting straps thru the wheel. There is too much of a probability that the straps will rub the finish on the wheel.
  24. In many cases, yes, it is a choice. There are people living that lifestyle because they CHOOSE to live it. There are people with mental issues that can't hold down a job, elderly people who have lost their saving due to medical bills or other issues but a significant percentage of the "homeless" are there out of choice. Look at ANY area in this country and you will see "help wanted" signs in the windows of most businesses. Even in rural parts of the south, fast food places are paying $15 to $20 an hour and begging people to work. The people most of us are complaining about have figured out how to game the system and get money without working. The next time you see a "homeless" person on the corner begging for food, offer them a job. Have them wash and wax your RV for $250 or $300 and tell them that you will furnish everything they need to do the job. See how many take you up on it. Even more telling, offer to buy them a meal, no cash, just take them somewhere and buy them a meal. Most of them will tell you to screw off, they want money. It might be an eye-opening experience for you. When you have them throw trash out the window of their RV instead of placing it in a can or dumpster or dumping their black tank in a storm drain you simply have lazy people that have no respect for others or themselves. Those are the people that I have an issue with.
