  1. Just make it from high test Jameson whiskey instead of beer and cut it with water...😁😁😁. That should give you enough volume.
  2. Good old Robert A Heinlein.... There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch Edit: From the book "The moon is a harsh mistress"
  3. Or you could do like we have, enable WiFi calling on your Verizon or AT&T phone when you are in a non service area and continue to talk, text and stream on your existing phone.
  4. I just use one of these. Works on pretty much anything that will fit in the jaws. https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-11420-Hose-Cutter/dp/B0002NYB6O/ref=asc_df_B0002NYB6O&mcid=63c194d7dcd032c4b03a06f78efa3fd1?tag=bngsmtphsnus-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=79989588794310&hvnetw=s&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=m&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583589115543712&psc=1
  5. Rick, I modified the hitch to accept a couple of hitch pins to prevent the latch arm from becoming disengaged. There is now a plate welded to the rear of the lock block cage and a modified handle design that is match drilled to the new plate to allow you to insert the pins. I had to do that after the hitch screwed up and dropped our trailer a few years back. I modified the hitch and had over a grand worth of machining done to it to fix it to my satisfaction. It now has bushings everywhere they are needed, additional stiffeners in the frame at critical impact points, new, thicker limit plates added, lock blocks bolted over the pins that had a tendency to back out and several other fixes. Works great now.
  6. I just hope no one quotes his post.... A link would be nicer...😁
  7. Ray, about the only thing I watch local is the news and just about every station out there is now streaming their news broadcast.
  8. It's even more painful to watch him camp in below freezing temps.
  9. LOL, I have a 13.2K front axle and without the trailer and smart onboard, I usually weigh around 12.8K on that axle. With the trailer I am at 12.2K
  10. One other thing for Starlink users. If you have a Samsung TV you can watch a lot of channels on Samsung plus for free.
  11. With the new emissions systems, most engines just need to run at fast idle until the temp needle starts to move. Prolonged idling will kill your DPF filter in a hurry.
  12. Rick, You can get self canceling turn signals on Paccar trucks but very few are ever ordered that way. Due to our larger turn radius and too many lawyers in this country, they claim that your turn signals will turn off while the trailer is still in the intersection. I find it hard to believe that someone can't spot something as large as a tractor-trailer turning in an intersection and wonder "Are they turning or going straight? Hmmm, must be going straight because their turn signals aren't blinking."
  13. LOL, do we need to get into axle lockers and the power divider locker and when they can and should be used?
  14. Learned about that stuff a long time ago from a really good A&P mechanic that specialized in old aircraft.
  15. Yep, a true automatic in our rigs would be an Allison. The rest are more properly "automated manuals" like most of our smart cars.
  16. Hopefully, this link will clear it up, BOTH axles are always driving the wheels and can run independently as far as speed goes. When you lock the divider, it is no longer dividing the power but locks them together. https://desitrucking.com/understand-your-power-divider/
  17. Where in SE TN are you? I'm just south of Chattanooga.
  18. Carl, remember that money can't buy happiness but it can buy tools which is the next best thing. If you can find a can of Kroil penetrating oil, try it. It's not cheap but it is the best on the market to break things loose.
  19. Rick. How about fuel milage? Had one guy at a rally insist that he got 20mpg plus bobtailing and 14 to 15mpg towing a 26K fiver. And that was with a DD15..... If you are honest about it, most of us here will say 5.5 to 9.0mpg when towing our fivers. That is day in, day out, uphill, downhill, winter, summer and caught sitting in traffic.
  20. Rocky, all it takes is to get mired down and stuck and a tweek of the throttle. A driveshaft can be twisted in half or a U-joint can break. A start on a steep hill will also load up the torque required to get moving. That is why most trucks that are factory single axles come with 23K rears or better. We are lighter than most at 50K+/- with some on this forum pushing 70K. Those are not "light rigs" and will often push a truck to the breaking point.
  21. Mine are Snap-on flare nut (line) crowsfoot wrenches and they have saved my butt more than a few times over the years. I think I have 4 or 5 sets of regular line wrenches. They are always frustrating but the Snappies bite better than anything else I have.
  22. Carl, Do you have a set of flare nut crowfoot wrenches? Put them on a pair of 24" ratchets, put some heat on the larger connection nut and they should break loose.
  23. You can also have a load carrying axle in the rear that does not have a differential. They are fairly common for long haul road tractors due to reducing the tractor weight and allowing for a higher cargo weight. Those are commonly referred to as a 6x2 configuration. A normal tandem where both axles have a differential is known as a 6x4. Something like a military Oshkosh with a front differential where every axle is a drive axle is a 6x6. You can also have lift axles and tridems but those are another matter entirely...
