alan0043 Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 What a time capsule ! Who would have thought that Ford would build something like that. That was the point of time when there was a corporate fuel mileage for the auto makers. 2012 Volvo VNL 630 w/ I-Shift; D13 engine; " Veeger " Redwood, model 3401R ; 5th Wheel Trailer, " Dead Wood " 2006 Smart Car " Killer Frog "

RandyA Posted October 12, 2016 Report Posted October 12, 2016 Thanks for sharing. I especially enjoyed seeing the green bathroom sink, refrigerator, red tile and harvest gold carpet and furniture. The kitchen counter would wake you up faster than a cup of strong black coffee. Brought back a lot of memories . A far cry from your photos, but I was affectionately looking at this early 50's Ford F-350 dually I ran across this past weekend. Many memories here too. Sound body and a good resto project - but I don't need any more old bones to work on. Not too sure if the original 292 V8 would handle what a modern F-350 will though. Alie&Jim's Carrilite Posted October 12, 2016 Report Posted October 12, 2016 Well, I know where my mother's couch went I'd love to have that with modern running gear. Jim's Adventures Old Spacecraft.... Who knows whats next
bmzero Posted October 12, 2016 Author Report Posted October 12, 2016 I'd love to have that with modern running gear. That's exactly why I want to build my own trailer. Most of the trailers on the market now cater to the masses or they are simply way out of my budget. As in the racing world, often times making something functional and still light weight is very costly. However, with the capacity of the HDT's, it gives me the ability to use some lesser expensive materials to build a higher quality trailer. This vintage setup is good inspiration for my future trailer project. "Willy Mammoth" - Volvo 730, Sold Heartland Cyclone 4000 Toy HaulerT-Minus 26 years and counting to being a full timer.

Exile Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 Maybe just back the trailer down the launch ramp ? Is all that shag carpet indoor/outdoor? 98 379 with 12.7 DD LG Dodge w/5.9 CTD Chrome habit I’m trying to kick.
Pat & Pete Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 Is all that shag carpet indoor/outdoor? Hmm , maybe you wouldn't back it in all that deep ? Or , back up fast and hit the brakes just before you hit water ... That rig must have winch for retrieval . Then again , I suppose they might have had a forklift on a trailer behind the house unit . I wonder if those folks might have had levitation powers . Goes around , comes around .
jkennell Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 NO. You guys are not thinking Old School at all. For you to have that sort of rig in 1970....you had a driver....and hired help. My guess is they slid the boat out onto a dolly frame, lifted the motor out and set it in by hand, and then basically hand launched it. Quite possible the actual owner of these rigs never drove the truck at all. They would arrive in the Limo after everything had been set up. Be very interesting to know who originally commissioned these. CAMELOT was the Kennedy's place...but that would have been in the 60's. No camper at present. Way too many farm machines to maintain.
