Well, Ol' HD is Done... :(

Unfortunately the time has come for me to give up camping/traveling..

After (72) years, I have camped in bare sleeping bags, tents, tent campers, truck campers, pull trailers, motorhomes, and the love of my life a Volvo HDT with 5th wheel...

We sold our motorhome today...

Sad day, but due to many situations, including my ability to get around we made this decision last fall.

However, I am not totally giving up..

Decided to build a small log cabin in my back yard......working on it now with the help of my Grandson...

Will have bunk beds, seating area, cooking and heat....can't beat that, and best of all it is only ~25 steps from my back deck...will have a 4 foot by 12 foot front covered porch also..

I would like to continue following here, as well as posting.

Hope that is OK.. it has been a wonderful group to be associated with.

We have met many many new friends thru this forum..

Cheers, and here is a pic of my new "Dwellings"

Cheers,

Bob

While we can't take issue with your decision to give up RVing, I think that I can speak for most here when I say that we'd be profoundly disappointed if you stopped dropping by the Forum and contributing, Bob. We've enjoyed your continued participation since you gave up the "HDT life", and your decision to sell the MH certainly won't change anything, either.

We agree with Phil plus we wish you all the best in whatever your road leads to even if it is the back yard.

Be sure to share your adventures with the grand kids. They will be the ones that benefit the most out of your experience and travels and hopefully they will be our new generation of people that will use the wisdom that we all wish we had been given years earlier. Just look at how some of the younger crowd is already joining the HDT wisdom and bringing with it talented people like BMzero to take over the reigns of Jedi Master when the elders retire from this lifestyle!

Enjoy and stop by often. Who knows maybe that grandson will take you on a real camping trip!

You're a smart man to know when it's time to hang up the keys. I look forward to your future input here and, wish you all the best in your new cabin! Any chance you'd drive a regular vehicle to a rally and utilize a camping cabin? If that's not possible, then God bless and stay safe!

Hi Bob,

I remember the ECR in Pa. when you gave me and my grandsons a ride. At that time I was looking at the life style. Please keep posting. With your project of the log cabin, please post pictures. It would be nice to see how your helper is learning. To get some ideas about your cabin, look up tiny houses. I think you might find some ideas. This will be a project that the grandkids won't forget.

Wish you the best,

Al

Sorry to hear that the Volvo is gone, a hard choice that we will all have to make sooner or later. You better stick around here though! No reason to get crazy and leave us in the lurch! The cabin looks like a great project for spending time with your Grandson and that porch will provide him with many hours of great memories!

Be well and rock on!

Howdy Bob,

I have never met you but others speak highly of you and that's good enough for me. Just some suggestions how about at least one chrome stack used as a chimney on your cabin, maybe prop a couple of old tires along the side, have a lazy susan made from an old steering wheel mounted on the kitchen table, anything to remind you of the olden times. :D

Not to repeat all who have spoken, but I mostly feel the same way.

Stick around, and share whatever you want.

Hey Bob, I've been pondering that little cabin you're building, and was just wondering if I can be one of your grandsons?
