  1. If I thought I had a chance of living to 2035, I'd offer you a wager on the GM claim. Even if it happens, there will still be millions of vehicles on the roads which need gasoline. Forty years ago, the big worry of the world was that we would run out of petroleum in 40 or 50 years. Didn't happen yet. Look around your RV or your sticks and bricks home and see how many items don't require petroleum. The walls, ceiling, floors, exterior, furniture, cabinets, utensils, appliances, etc. etc. Wild price swings? Look at history. Fourteen years ago I paid about what I'm paying now for fuel. If you time adjust the cost, we've paid more in the past than we are now. The past couple of years fuel prices have gone low, mostly because of lowered consumption. A year from now, we'll probably be somewhere in between last month and today. The recent wild price swings have nothing to do with electric cars. It has mostly to do with the marketplace and buyers and sellers trying to posture and make their best profit. That's what we all do. Yes, the great energy transition is under way, as it has been for the past couple of centuries. Petroleum is not new, neither is so called renewable energy. In the 1700's and 1800's much of America's industry was once driven by water and wood and coal. Two of those were renewables.
  2. Google is your friend. This search took about 20 seconds Tax Rates Going Back to 1862
  3. I've stayed in campgrounds and RV Parks for a single night and for many months. I've encountered many which do not allow washing of your rig. However, I've never been to one which wouldn't let me clean the day's bugs off of the front of my rig after I pulled in and set up. I use a bath towel. Get it good and wet and lay it on the area for a couple of minutes. Then, move it to another spot and use a damp microfiber towel to wipe the bugs off of where I just had the wet towel. Then, move the wet towel again and repeat until the front of the rig is free of bugs. Usually took about ten minutes for my fifth wheel and less for my smaller trailers. During love bug season might take twenty minutes. I've tried a bunch of those chemicals and Pam and home remedies. I found most of them just created a bigger mess to clean up. Bugs just need a couple of minutes to dissolve in water and wiped off.
  4. Isn't Starlink location specific, for now?
  5. Really? You must be very young or have a short memory. Cellphones began for most people with a pay by the minute plan. My first cell plan was $.25 per minute. Text didn't exist then. I later moved to a plan with free Talk for a limited four State area, then a per minute fee for elsewhere. Still no Text. I had several different plans after that, none with unlimited Talk or Text. My most recent plan before I got my current one, was Nationwide 450 Minutes of Talk and 100 Texts with unlimited Data. I kept that plan for many years and used it while full timing for my internet access. I was able to increase my Texts to 1,000 for $10 month. Verizon kept increasing the price of the plan until I finally dropped it. My current plan is a 5 gb data one from Verizon. It is the first plan I ever had with unlimited Talk or Text. Recently, Verizon offered me a bonus 1 TB of data for $5 month extra. I took them up on that. I still don't use but a couple of gb per month, but it's nice to have that extra for hotspotting while camping if I need it.
  6. Probably about what the all electric, self parking Airstream will cost. https://electrek.co/2022/01/19/electric-airstream-concept-is-the-rv-industrys-iphone-moment/
  7. This is what I see in his signature SKP #79313 / Full-Timing / 2001 National RV Sea View / 2008 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
  8. That's one way to look at it. However, glasses can be a real problem in some occupations. I wore contacts for 30 years, but still needed reading glasses. With my wrinkled up, scarred up face, I don't give much thought to how I look so much as how I see. I've worn glasses all my life and hate them. Most of my work has been outdoors while sweating and getting good and dirty. Glasses have to be cleaned constantly, interfere with safety wear, etc. Reading glasses for a carpenter or plumber or electrician, etc. can be a real nuisance. I doubt vanity is a factor in those situations.
  9. You can buy reading glasses for less than $10 pair. That's not the point. This is a new technology. It's not for me, and may not be for you, but if it works as advertised, there will be many consumers lining up for it.
  10. When you do the upgrade to Win 11, does it tell (warn) you about which programs will no longer work ahead of time? Or, is it a big surprise after you do the upgrade? Seems like in the past, you could run a program in an earlier version mode (example: in Win 7 mode). When I upgraded to Win 10, I had programs which just disappeared.
  11. It's one article in the magazine. I guess they split it up online. Toward the bottom of your online article is a link to Part II. Here is Part II The reason I recommended buying the magazine is so you'd have it lying around the next time one of your guests questions the Rivian's capabilities. 🙂
  12. You should probably buy the January 2022 Motortrend magazine. It highlights a cross country off-road trip with Rivian. Good reading.
  13. Not doubting your word because I really don't know. However, I've always heard that hard water (mostly because of calcium, lime, and magnesium) is healthy and good for you. Where did you learn otherwise? Thanks.
  14. I've had a Tesla Solar panel system and 2 Powerwalls on order for over 1 1/2 years. Doesn't look like it is going to happen. Anyway, it would take about six Powerwalls to charge one Tesla car from zero to 100% if they were completely dedicated to that purpose alone. Of course, those numbers are theoretical, so one could probably get by with just three PW's for daily topping of the car and a couple more for the house. The way battery technology is advancing, I can see easily storing 100-150 kwh at a person's home in the near future. Right now, the cost is pretty prohibitive. Today's Powerwalls are 13 kwh and cost about $8,500 installed and will store $1.50 worth of electricity.
  15. You're not taking a laptop with you? If you store everything in the cloud, it'll be waiting for you there.
  16. My Wally has two satellite tuners and two OTA tuners for a total of four. I frequently watch a program while recording three others. I don't use a portable dish though.
  17. I recently ordered a whole house generator installed at my home. All of the bids I received required 1/2 cost deposit. The lowest bid I got was over $11,000. The kicker is that they all estimated delivery and installation at least 8 months out, due to generator shortage and high demand. Talk about using my money for a while.
  18. Yes, that's why everyone has to decide for themselves how to invest their money. I certainly don't suggest that anyone follow my approach.
  19. Nope. I'm in it for the long run. It always goes up in the long run. I don't get excited over a big rise or or worry over a bad fall.
  20. I wouldn't get too excited. They'll fall fast once the Winter Covid surge hits and the realization of long term double digit inflation sinks in. Yesterday, I couldn't even spell optimist, today I are one. 😎
