runaway parents
Hope everybody has had a happy holiday season. Question I have because our 08 vnl 780 has got a fiberglass hood on it. How much snow piled up on it can it handle before the snow load damages the hood. We have cleared it off twice this year and expecting another 4 in of snow. Last time we shoveled the bed off it had 18 in on it. Anyway just wondering how much weight the hood can handle before any damage occurs. jkoenig24
I don't have an answer re weight but, rather than shoveling, have you considered a cordless leaf blower?

Yep but the last batch of snow we got was pretty wet
Jaydrvr
I don't think you could pile enough snow on a Volvo hood to actually damage it, but that's just my take. My Volvo hood is 24 years old, and nothing so far has put a dent in it, other than an exploding steer tire. Jay Quote

usbusin
What about all the trucks parked on dealer lots or in storage? Is the snow ever removed? The front row ones get cleaned to catch buyers' eye. Back fence? They'll get done, eventually. Moresmoke
I’d be more concerned about the roof than the hood. I’m pretty sure my 300lb self could dance a jig on the hood and not do anymore damage than scratch the paint.
lappir
Only time I'd worry about it was if I was heading out for a drive. I'd want as much off of it as possible so it didn't cause a road hazard. If you are not driving till it gets warm again. It will melt.  Rod Quote White 2000/2010Volvo VNL 770 with 7' Drom box with opposing doors, JOST slider hitch. 600 HP Cummins Signature 18 Speed three pedal auto shift. 1999 Isuzu VehiCross retired to a sticks and bricks garage. ddm502001
Been a truck mechanic longer than want to remember anymore, at over 200# was not uncommon to walk across a Pete, Freightliner or even as my own KW Hood, built to handle that.
