Ropeshaft
That is huge news. Makes you wonder why you only hear about it on a forum.

It will be diseminated more going forward but even with best efforts some won't be aware of it until some individual makes them aware by asking if they know about it. In my volunteer position I constantly meet people that don't know about the federal senior pass or the one for disabilities. Sometime even if they have one they forget to use it or don't remember what they can use it for. Everyone can help themselves if they read appropriate signs of ask questions. Another good reason to stay active on the forum. There are lot of people on the forum that are on the ball. I did not start using it until I had been an skp for about 5 years and it sure would have saved me a lot of hassels and sometimes money. agesilaus
Excellent news for a lot of Rver's. I already have an Access Pass but this will extend the free entry to a lot of others. It doesn't take effect until after the election or I;d think it was an election ploy.
Desert Beacon
I'm a vet. I'm also a former National Park ranger. While this is great for veterans and families, the parks will be hit hard financially unless their funding is increased from other sources to compensate. Al F
There is an article in USA Today about the DOI's order: https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/experience/america/national-parks/2020/10/28/national-parks-give-free-entry-veterans-5th-graders-gold-star/6055843002/ It is good to follow the new media for your news. In the DOI news release I see that the "DOI" made the order and there is mention of some bipartisan legislators supporting the order. However those are the only elected officials I see that are mentioned. No mention of any other significant elected officials. richfaa
Will they be receiving any additional funds from the Governmnet to off set the loss of income as a veteran I would rather pay to support them. Greg112
I don't know how much of a financial hit it might be. I suspect a substantial number of veterans are already eligible for free entrance via senior / access passes. I was thinking of it as a convenience - if I don't happen to have my senior pass I'll be able to use my retired ID. That said, the parks really don't need any reductions in income but should you feel so inclined any park I've been in had 1 or more donation boxes about. It is a big number but with the number of folks that get free admission and the number of parks it does not seem all that big.
