  1. We've used Escapees for going on 14 years with only one problem. Showed delivered ready for pickup in Surprise AZ. PO couldn't find it. Called me on my way back to campground to let me know it was found. That impressed me but ever since I've had mail sent to small POs that don't have a big volume of general delivery.
  2. Anyone have a recommendation on oil/lube and generator service for a gas Class C in the Livingston (Tx) area?
  3. I'll be needing a new chassis battery while I'm in Benson. Are there outfits that would deliver and take the old one for the core charge? No point packing up and going to a shop if there is. And, it's an 8D so not something I care to wrestle by myself. Thought of this as I used batteryguy in Tucson for my house batteries a couple of years ago and having many pounds of batteries delivered and removed was great. But it seems limited to house. Maybe a mobile truck repair service? Greg
  4. Crowded doesn't begin to describe the upper canyon.... the guides are quite good tho and do provide opportunitites (however brief) for unobstructed photos.
  5. I used Lemon Squad in the metroplex (Texas) area and was pleased and impressed with detail and thoroughness. Then again, in the Valley - not so much, just OK. I think they have a checklist so you know the basics will be covered but my experience is its going to depend on the individual inspector.
  6. Visible looked good to me but I would have to buy a new phone which put me off it. I'll probably switch when I need to get one anyway.
  7. Checked 3 addresses in 3 different states where we tend to hang out for longer periods and no joy. Maybe this topic will emerge periodically in the future to remind me to check and see what may be coming on board.
  8. As I recall when I first heard about it and check it out - Informed delivery is only available in certain places so far - not where I was probably big cities?
  9. One of my wife's priority mail packages stayed in Des Moines to visit for 5 days before it moved again. On the other hand, just got priority mail shipment from Livingston in 2 days (oh wait thats what is supposed to do - why am I amazed?)
  10. I don't know how much of a financial hit it might be. I suspect a substantial number of veterans are already eligible for free entrance via senior / access passes. I was thinking of it as a convenience - if I don't happen to have my senior pass I'll be able to use my retired ID. That said, the parks really don't need any reductions in income but should you feel so inclined any park I've been in had 1 or more donation boxes about.
  11. We got our notice Oct 5 and they're on the way to meet us.
  12. When I changed from a Samsung to an LG I found I could no longer use the wifi hotspot with pdanet. I struggled with the Wifi direct for awhile but it was real clunky (for me). I eventually changed to one of the newer Verizon plans that includes hotspot. I'm not finding a Pdanet upgrade in the Play store? I've got version 5.22.1
  13. For a short stay to make sure my mail arrives while I'm in place I'll have it arrive before I do. We've been lucky so far but after our Vail AZ experience (see above) it occurs to me I could send in the form (PS 1527) if required in advance. But I haven't had any luck finding this online in an easily usable format - just on image. I guess I could go down to the post office here and see if they have one but thats just another chance for virus exposure while standing in line and waiting so to be avoided if possible.
  14. We've had our experiences too. After Surprise AZ losing our mail for awhile (and me seeing that they handle a LOT of forwarded mail in the winter) I learned to go with the smaller post offices. I think we used El Mirage. Following that principle we used Vail in Tucson but last year we wheeled in there to be told they kept a package we'd had sent as a favor since it was Christmas but we should have done a form. So things change. Best to verify IF you can get a post office on the phone and then give you a correct answer. Its part of the adventure thats for sure - shouldn't be that way but it is.
  15. Sounds good, thanks all, I'll get with Polk County to make sure all the blocks get checked but this is helpful.
  16. Wonder about procedures since I don't do this all the time. Looks like our future holds a new toad purchase from a dealership in a state (Colorado) other than Texas (our domicile for years). Near as I can gather from some research a lot of the paperwork can be taken care of by the dealership (tax collection for example). But I wonder about the inspection for registration - can that be waivered like it is for a recurring registration? I understand there are currently waivers on registration completion due to COVID but I figure those will be done by the time I do this. Or must I drive to Texas within the X number of days I get for a temporary registration for an inspection and completion of paperwork? Most of what I dredged up seems to assume you'll head for home soon after purchase but I tend not to visit Livingston til Nov or Dec. Amarillo or better yet Dalhart wouldn't be too bad distance-wise if I had to come into the state for registration - I'm thinking I wouldn't have to go to Polk County in the summer (I hope). Thanks for any experiences or insights.
  17. Is it possible to mail the paperwork to my (Polk) County tax office I wonder? We'll be a long way from there.
  18. I figure if I bought from a dealership they'd take care of this but..... If I buy a motorhome from a private seller what hoops do I need to jump through? We're full-timers with Texas residency in Polk County. A brief review of Texas DMV website would have me believe I need to walk in to the Polk County tax office to complete the transfer/registration. Surely not??? If I buy one from a private seller in Texas could I not use their county tax office to transfer title and take care of registration? Isn't it a two part deal - title transfer than registration or do they go together? Some insights from those who have been through this are welcome. Thanks... Greg
