alan0043
Hi Everyone, I am looking for generic brand rocker switches to fit my Volvo. I have none a search here on the HDT section of the forum. I have also done a search on Google. The HDT section search had no good results. The Google search showed all kinds of different brands. But right now I am not sure what brand would work best. I was hoping that one of you guys know of a brand that would work. The nicest looking rocker switches are from the marine world. I want to take out one of the blanks that are used to fill in the empty spots. Does anyone have a brand and or part number that I sure look at ? I want the rocker switch to fit the area where the blank came from. Big5er
Have you searched Ebay? Lots of used VNL switches there. The last one I bought I wanted to stay with the factory switch and bought one from the dealer...came with a very small selection of "labels" to insert in the switch plate. DesertMiner
I know you asked for a “generic” switch I just happened to have the part # for the Volvo Aux switch 20470609 Most after market switch’s don’t fit the Volvo switch panel opening without some modification. beemergary
Why would you want a generic switch? With the Volvo you shouldn't have to worry about it carring the load and no melt down. Don't know about Volvo but have found stuff like this for my Peterbilt online.
Stan Wright
You can get good deals on used Volvo switches on Ebay. Especially if you buy a panel that has several switches in it.

ARGO
I can get you Volvo switches if you are patient. They may be labeled something other than what you want, but a couple of minutes with a VOM will tell you what pins to use. You'd have to see the movie to understand.......... Padraic
I have similar thinking, that is replacing the blank switch plate with a real switch function as a future project. For example, my Trailer Saver air hitch has an under the dash control switch which mounted by the folk of the TS in 2003. I like to move it to the dash air switch gang, into one of the blanks. Mine will be air switch vs. Al's electric switch search, like other said. The Volvo air switch also has an electronic board for the switch light and electrical terminal, so it can be used as an electrical function using an ohm meter to id the on-off function. If the purpose is to keep the style of the dash, we were searching the original 1998 dash air switch; my wife locates the dealer who can send us a new replacement, unlike those from eBay. It will be new from Volvo. Those from eBay and many places are used one from around 1998, depend on when they change the design. They were bad due to the age of the rubber inside the air switch. They leak. The new one sold at ~$100 and should come in anytime. Will see how well it works. beyerjf
I would consider sourcing this sort of stuff from good quality Marine vendors, West Marine is one of many. Most marine grade stuff is far superior to anything automotive. https://www.westmarine.com/ There are many others, perhaps a marine electrical supplier might have something. Right before you made a reply to this thread I found a switch on E-Bay. It even has the right correct label on it. The price also seem fair. It is on it's way. The fun part will be to use a meter to figure out the pins. That is the only way you can learn. The nice thing is that I have a buddy I can go to if I can not figure things out. alan0043
Hi Everyone, I have received a used Volvo back light switch ( part # 20470602 ). There are five spades sticking out of the back of the switch. These spades are at # 9, 10 at the bottom, # 2, 4 in the middle and # 12 at the top. I was able to find out with the help of a volt meter that # 2 and 4, open and close from the rocker part of the switch. I have looked at the switch in the resource guide but I am not sure how the rest of it works. I would like the light on the switch to work showing me that the switch is on or off. I looked at the picture that Tom provided but I am not sure how to use that picture to help me. Can someone please explain to me how to wire the spades. Thank you for any help, Al 2012 Volvo VNL 630 w/ I-Shift; D13 engine; " Veeger " Redwood, model 3401R ; 5th Wheel Trailer, " Dead Wood " 2006 Smart Car " Killer Frog "
