  1. Turquoise trail is popular due to location. Not fancy but decent. At a higher altitude so cooler. Also a decent shot up to Santa Fe on Hwy 14. Also in this area called the east mountains is one called Liesure Mountain and HIdden Valley. All near to Albq. There are several Indian Casino with campground but you need to check with each one to see if it is open. Isleta is near the Rio Grande south of Albq. and not as convienent for some. West out I40 Rte 66 Casino has a pretty new campground. One commercial one to check on I think is called Enchanted Trails on the west mesa and there are 2 others in the same area on the south side of I40. There is at least one KOA in Albq. and one in the town of Bernalillo north of Albq. and not too far from StageCoach and Coronado Campground which is operated by the town of Bernalillo the last I knew of. Don't bother checking for spots on the Sandia Ranger Dist. For RV's it is very limited and better for small ones in general and no hook ups at all. About all you get is fire ring if you are lucky. I am Jim "the volunteer" and don't really recommend here even for tenting without checking the sites first and having a back up plan. If you get here and have questions and can catch up with me I volunteer on this district. We are getting more questions about camping on this district this year than we have gotten over 20 years it seems like. Lots of competition for site in this area this year. There is a Wmart at I40 and Eubank that allows overnight but I would not use this one as it is usually a pretty full and busy parking area. There is one just north of I40 in Edgewood about 20 miles east of Albq. that works better for overnight. There is pretty decent size RV park in Edgewood but it seems to be staying pretty full this year. I think it is now called the Rte. 66 campground but used to be called Red Arrow I am pretty sure. A couple that stopped at the Ranger Station and as about camping here and told them what was around this area. I told them about the KOA and he said they were asking $100. per night but I don't know if that was correct. This couple was towing what looked like a brand new Airstream about 30foot.
  2. Anyone interested and particularly RV. I saw this on the news yesterday or early today. Guy served in four wars and worked for the CIA. Also involved in the Bay of Pigs.
  3. For some reason I have never scarred from the small pox vacination and the only discomfort I had was some itching for a day or two. If I recall I had at least one in the military. At the school I went to in Dallas they gave most of the first polio shots at school. I think that families could even make arrangements for younger kids not in school yet could get theirs there. I know a lot of people also went to the county health dept. which was not nearly as convenient even though Dallas was much smaller then. Of course a lot of people were lucky to have one car per family then. I just thought, weren't the first shots a series of 3? In about 1977 I was carrying mail on another carriers route in Casa Veiw area of Dallas. These houses had drop slots either in the door or nest to it. When I got up on the porch there inside the picture window was a man in an Iron Lung. The last time I looked it up he was still alive and still had to use the Iron Lung at least part of the time. When I last looked it up there were 2 people in the US still needing the Iron Lung. There wasn't much doubt that my kids would get needed vacinations but after seeing that it removed all doubt. BTW he became a lawyer and If remember was able to attend the University of Texas in Austin some way. I really hated getting shots as a child. I embarrassed my mom to the extreme when I got my polio shot the first time at the school but she still made sure I got it no matter what. I'm almost 73 and I still really miss her.
  4. Boy do I like good information. I must admit I did not see the snarky but I learned a long time ago that the way things are written here can be interpreted by different parties different ways. (Thank you Stan Miller where ever you are) Sounds like you have resolved it for the time being. In a way I guess it is like walking away from a plane crash. As they say any one you can walk away from is a good landing.
  5. Valid rynosback, and I am not advocating one way or the other. Just a thought to consider as part of the consideration on what to do.
  6. One thing to consider with renting and maybe selling is the pandimic ramifitcations. What if you rent to someone that could not pay and you were not able to evict. I really feel bad for folks that are haveing to deal with possibly losing housing through no fault of their own but owner (even if owned free and clear) will be stuck dealing with up keep and taxes etc. to maintain value of their home.
  7. Are dealers still hitting people up for nitrogen in the tires?
  8. At this point I have to believe you have a problem with USAA for some reason or other that most other escapees using them don't. Maybe there is something new that will begin to affect them soon. We'll see. As far as rights I think most problems of this sort started under the Patriot Act and I believe GWB was president then. If I am correct almost all people in USAA are military or ex. They don't seem to find an issue with doing business with Progressive so I will bow to their expertice and experience. I want to think this is legitimate so for now I will. I will bow to your right to get an attorney if you feel that is needed and wish you good luck. I decided years ago not to use USAA or get insurance through them for other reasons that work well for me. However every time my insurance comes due I reconsider that based on what works for me the best at that time. I am absolutely tickled nearly to death for all the folks that use them and are happy. I like happy people. BTW, I am of course ex military and currently use Kirtland FCU (air force) and Navy FCU. I won't plug which insurance I use since they do enough plugging themselves on TV.
  9. In the old horse operas the cowboy trying to escape someone would ride at a gallop under some tree, grab a tree limb and swing up into the tree so the ones chasing him would ride right under him without seeing him. MY Sage Advice: Don't do that unless you have checked out the limb well in advance. There is much more I could advise on but we don't have enough time and internet space.
  10. If it is a motorhome I would think it could be done at any place that could do a large truck. If it is a Trvl trailer or 5thWheel you might need to hit somewhere that has experience with trailers.
  11. Linda don't be bringing the things we used to do when we were ignorant and in ignorant time. I don't want to give the grandkids any ideas aaand now that I know better it scares me.
  12. You forgot to state the plan and phone.
  13. I don't know if I would call this humor but I do get your point.🤓
  14. One more reminder. If you are doing it out of state you don't have to have the inspection done to do the paperwork but you need to mail a written statement that the vehicle is currently out of state. If you were just doing registration renewal you could do it on line. I just did mine the about 2 weeks ago and am waiting for the new window decal to be sent through skp mail forwarding. I used to send them a self addressed prepaid envelope and they would send it directly to whatever my location was at the time but they won't do that any more. Also last vehicle before the one I bought last July I sent stuff using Fedex with a return Fedex prepaid envelope and there was a pretty good glitch so I suggest doing overnight mail or priority mail through US Post office.
  15. If it did not unduly restrict air flow and could be done, I can see filtering the out flow to cut down even more dust etc. in the living space. I use the small cheap ceramic heaters from Walmart a good bit and I have rigged up filters on the back/intake side and I know it has helped a good bit. One of my main locations is near a giant cement quarrey and plant so there is always unseen dust in the air. NM is dusty enough as it is. I use the washable foam type.
  16. If you are escapees using the mail forwarding service it is easy. If you are from somewhere else in the state it may or may not be easy. If "from" Polk County, Tx. contact the Tax assessor/collector and ask for the vehicle resgistration people. Ask them what to do and follow their instructions. You will have to mail or fedex or Ups some paperwork to them and provide some prepaid return envelope for them to use. It should work the same way for any other county but Polk county is so experienced with this they make it easy. You may need to stay at your current location until the Tags and papserwork come back to you. In the past they would send it to you wherever you are but now they may have to send it to your mail forwarding and have them send it to you. Ask them about this. You will have to send a paper stating that the vehicle is located outside of Tx for. inspection purposes and for a check you need a copy of your drivers license and your insurance. A lot of this stuff is running longer now because of Covid so be prepared for that.
  17. Some plans can be worth it I think if you can deal with the waiting period which I believe is 1 year. I think I about broke about even the first year and the 2nd year I definity came out ahead. That the way mine worked. I think overall it has saved me but not absolutely sure in every case. For the crown I had replaced at the end of April my portion was $659.55 for a gold crown. The dentist said gold was cheaper than porcilien and more resiliant. I had a gold crown and a gold bridge put done in late 1975 or early 1976 and have never had an issue with either in all these years so maybe he is right. One crown that was done in Mexico messed up within a week but the dentist said he guarnteed his work which turned out to be true. The bad part is I was in Albq. when it messed up and had to go over 200 miles back to get it fixed and stayed 1 or 2 nights in a cheap motel in Deming at my own expense. Never had another issue with it or any other work I had done there. The clinic there was the Fierro dental clinic and was the largest in Las Palomas I believe. However I think they may be closed now. some of the dentist there had a US phone # as do some or most in Algadones and some of the other border cities.
  18. My plan had a waiting time for some more expensive procedures. I think many do. So watch out for that. Also there may be a limit per year after the waiting period. I am also starting to question copay on procedures as I may not be as informed I as should be. I had crown replaced at the end of March and I was surprised by my portion of it. It may have been a great deal but it was still surprising. I kind of wondered if I didn't have insurance and paid out of pocket would that have been cheaper. Just been so long since I had a crown done that I am just not up on what it costs these days. Bad news is on Wed. I split a tooth and am about to do it again way sooner than I expected. I have been on my plan about 3 years. Before that I got most of my dental care in Las Palomas, Mexico south of Deming NM from about 1997 until I got on a Dental Plan. I would go back if there were not any issues with Covid or the like. I don't know but I believe Mexico may be restricting Americans crossing into Mexico for now but I am not sure other than some limited news reports.
  19. I forget which type of plastic those type tanks are usually but it is important to know. On my original trailer years ago I repaired what sounds like the same issue with a product called MarineTex. It is a type of epoxy. I was successful but I may have been a little lucky as I did not know back then that it can be important to know the type of plastic. The tricky part was to get it dried out enough and clean enough. I flushed and drained the tank well. Then I had to turn the water off and propped the flush valve open and aimed a small fan down the toilet. It still took at least several days at least for it to quit dripping. I had cleaned most of the area while it was still dripping so I only had a small area to clean when it stopped dripping and was completely dry. Then I mixed the epoxy and applied as directed. I still think I might have been lucky a little. There are all types of epoxy so some others may work. I believe one is advertised to even be able to stop a leak in a gasoline tank that is still dripping but I am not sure. As Randy said many can be plastic welded. I had one repaired by someone experienced and it was a black one. I think it is ABS plastic. It is on my 1997 Sunnybrook TT. The guy that did mine repaired all kind of plastic tanks of all sizes a many different uses so was very experienced. He was the one that told me it was important to know what kind of plastic the tank was made of. I was up under the trailer with him holding the light for him and passing a few things as needed so I watched closely. I believe with just a little practice I could do it but since I needed it "right now" and did not have to buy any tools or materials I was glad to pay to have it done. This was quite a few years ago but I think he was going to charge me $100. to come out and do it in place. When he saw I was volunteering with the local forest service district and I had the rig ready to go and properly blocked he knocked it down to $80. Most of the tanks he worked on were large commercial tanks and did RV's occaisionally if he wasn't backed up.
  20. Yea thats because you both were able to agree that you both married UP to very patient women.🙂
  21. To my knowledge I have never been. I did stumble into an event at the fairgrounds in Albuquerque years ago that was pretty big. I did not even know it was happening and went to the fairgrounds for some other reason and discovered it going on.
  22. IMHO it was joke. Not well done which is why some of us are not paid comedians. IE: look at some of the stupid stuff I have said. Well call me embarrassed and I stand corrected zulu. I guess it might have been an unwaranted comment.
  23. If you are not going to spend much time in SD you might not want to reconsider your VA health care based there. If you are going to have a winter base camp for instance that might be a better choice. I am "from" Livingston, Tx. but my prime VA is Albuquerque and Memphis. The VA systems don't always play well together. I am retired DOD civilian and haveGEHA as my insurance and Medicare. I have co-pays at the VA but Medicare is not allowed to pick up any of that and GEHA pays some based on what Medicare would have paid if they were allowed to. There are times I wish I had not even started with the VA although I have had some good care there. A lot of these issues are not caused by the VA but by congress and the VA has no choice but to follow laws that mandate the way it works-from congress.
