  1. We should have a disclaimer stating that subtle humor and back hand compliments are not always recognized on the forum. Also assumptions of intent or meaning should be thought about before we answer and accuse. I have my mirror out to watch out for one of those guys.
  2. your first reply from Scott in the quote above gave the answer for Polk County Tx. I can't speak for other Tx counties. In theory even Polk County does not have to do this I would guess. Wa-la!!! information you can use to base your decision. I do wonder how other counties do this as people every where travel. What if you were on an extended trip for pleasure or business in say Africa or Antarctica. I don't know if this still true but in at least some places in the US a judge could have the Sheriff go out and round up potential jurors off the street. I was told that when my grandfather was sheriff he had to do this once for one last juror as the the last one in the pool had been excused when questioned. He supposedly gathered 6 people and 1 of that group was selected for that last spot. I think this was in the 1930's and it was pretty well calculated that the trial (if not settled or pled out) would last a day or less. I can't certify that this is correct as I wasn't born until 1947. It might even be a family BS story. I don't know how registering to vote could be considered a poll tax since they don't charge you to register to vote. Well just thanks a lot Gary for posting a better answer before I could even finish typing. I don't need any help to look foolish. I can do that for myself.😁 Now you and me can fight this weekend so folks won't get bored.I😉
  3. Kirk, way more raccoons around than bears and bears and raccoons are both smart. noteven I have seen that one on youtube multiple times and I can't resist watching it again every so often. In hosting in some picnic areas here we have had some similar situations. 1) 2 couples finished eating at a picnic table and put all there food leftovers either in bearproof trash cans or car and proceeded to play cards at the table. It was getting dusky and a bear had quietly come to within about 4 -5 feet away from the table and did not even notice it until some folks coming bac to their car so it at told them about it. Must have been a heck of a card game. Same area a bear came down towards the table and they left everything at the table. They called the ranger station who called me to investigate. I was on my little Honda 250 and met them in the parking lot. They quickly explained and the lady said, "I left my cell phone on the table, can you get it?" I couldn't help myself and asked why are you afraid it will use up all your minutes. I did end up getting it back before it called anywhere out of her roaming area.
  4. Oh boy, another chance to tell my bear story. Volunteering with the Forest Svc. in New Mexico I had one trying to get in a window with me standing on the inside hitting it in the face. These were crank out style windows and I was not cooking. In fact I had just woke up and was still in my underwear. It took a gunshot out the window into the dirt to get it to leave. Of course this is not a common ocurrance although at that site and time they were around. I had a mother and 2 cubs under the trailer going after acorns and some other incidents. There are some good youtube videos about bears that might enlighten you. I stumbled on a cool one the other night with a big bear breaking in a substantial door on a house. Some have learned to open unlocked vehicle door. It sounds kind of off but Black Bears can and are often different colors. To my knowledge all bears in Penn. are Black Bears no matter the color. In Penn they can be pretty big. There is a species of bear that are called Brown bears and are very large and to my knowledge mostly in parts of Canada and Alaska.

I was lucky I think as it was early enough in the season along with almost basically being closed because without snow chain requirement. I have no doubt that prime time and weather would be a traffic nightmare.

    help.

Some people overdo the sugar to the point it is almost like eating cake. My aunt used to make small batch just cooking in a small iron skillet on the stove top and just flipping it just like a pancake. She could make it good anyway but hers stove top was just as good as baked and seemed it was a little quicker.

Are you referring to the drive after you enter Yosemite? I almost said that my memory felt like it was fairly far but being so long ago I was unsure of my memory. I did not think it was far from SKP co-op to the entry of Yosemite. The part inside the park seemed a little long but that is relative. I think I drove out a different entry just to see that area and entrance. I did a few stops but not many and not long as I only had the one day and under the circumstances I am glad I did it that way but it would not be my first choice if I had more time for sure.
  8. I wish I had worked in one like that. Sometimes I even had to reach under setting hens to get eggs. We did have a mostly automated feeder which helped. I was 17 and in pretty decent shape but that was hard work.

I hope you get some more up to date feedback, too.
  10. The birds didn't give me mental issues. The birds that gave me mental issues were chickens at thosands per coup that I had to gather eggs from twice a day. They constantly peck at your legs. Just lightly, not painfull but just constant although if a hen was hurt even slightly she would be attacked by the others and often killed. Eggs were gathered in flats with either 3or 4 dozen eggs per flat stack on each other in a rack that I want to say was about 8 or 10 flats. When you got the rack filled you set the rack just outside a door to be picked up by another and transported to the the washing- candleing area then packaged and refrigerated until transported to stores.

I was there in about late April 1999 and stayed in the "boondocks" which was just on the asphalt but such a beautiful park and so near the clubhouse with showers it was fine. The people there then were all fantastic. Of course that was over 20yrs ago. With covid they might not have the clubhouse open and I would check with them to make sure they are allowing outside travelers in. I am educated remembering and may have been even the first of May but my point was they had a pretty good snow storm and they were not letting people in the park without snow chains. I lucked out a little in that I got in on the last day before I had to leave so I got to do mostly a limited drive through. I did hike up to one of the famous trees that wasn't a long trail that took much time. I would say if you are there long enough and the weather cooperates it is a reasonable way to access the park. Like a lot of places now with more people rving it could be a lot more traffic than when I was there and I would keep that in mind. I am sure you will get other replies with more up to date information but this is at least my experience and might be useful.
  12. It seems to be rated in the top 10 Hitchcock movies often but for my money I thought The Birds sucked.
  13. That would be great but unrealistic. How often did people get things wrong before they got it right. Thomas Edison and Einstein come to mind. These days I wish they could get building vehicles right so there are not massive expensive recalls.
  14. I would bet money you are correct. My first guess might be airlines. Since I got mine through the VA in Albq. they gave me a card when I go the first shot and then recorded the second shot on it when I got that one. Mine is about 1/2 the size of the one Kirk pictured. I got Phizer. Gary, I forgot to ask again yesterday but my youngest who is a nurse at St Jude had what she said was almost 2 miserable days after her 2nd one. Mostly fever. She was able to function in a limited way and not at the hospital. She is 45 and pretty healthy. She says she would do it again.
  15. I would not necessarily be deceptive but if you flat out told the dealer you are going to finance elsewhere he will know he is losing that percentage that may be what Kirk spoke about and may be less willing to deal on price. These days the way RV's are selling I wouldn't count on anything being normal. Dealers are rarely going to lose. When I finance which is extremely rare I know that I am going to do a full payoff of the loan within 6-12 months so I make sure there is no early payoff penalty. I have financed vehicles through a dealer but paid off early even if it was by a cheaper rate loan from somewhere else. I would finance almost anywhere if it is best for me but I mostly like to use credit unions when I can. I don't think I have financed anything in about 30 years and it isn't because I have a ton of money because I sure don't.
  16. Never heard of it. Not trying to sell a product but so far my repairs with the flex seal liquid is holding up. Where I am parked there is a raised parking lot almost as high as my trailer behind me so I can pretty easily look down on it. There has been several good snows that lasted for at least several days or longer and no leaks have turned up as it melted slowly.
  17. I think that a lot of the old timers that used to be here like Stan Miller for instance are no longer active. In Stan's case he contributed to the veterans thread a lot. I also think a lot of questions that might be dealt with here are actually asked in other threads. I hope this is just a cycle we are going through on the forum overall.
  18. Where I volunteer a lot we were already wearing masks a lot because of Hanta-virus and just plain dust. There is some plague in this area rarely but I don't know if the mask offer any protection from plague. I am parked so close to a concrete plant that also is quarring the rock most to the time 24/7 I should sleep with a mask on.
  19. I have to admit I am confused. You asked a question and made a statement and you seem upset that there is a reply. I hope I am truly just confused. It is not a personal attack and you are very welcome here. Some of us maybe taking this more serious based on our own experiences. For instance on about Jan 24, we lost an escapees member named Jim Spence (Devilishjim on the forum). I have had close friends die of Covid and as I was typing this on ABC they reported on a couple that had been married for 60 yrs, that got it and died not long before they were scheduled to get the shot. So I guess we are taking it deadly serious. I can't really find a way to make that cheerful. My suggestion is just ignore those topics and use the ones you like. I hope you do not take this as a personal attack as it is just and answer to a statement you made that I don't understand.
  20. I was suspicious at first but once I snapped to I find that pretty cool VERN. I didn't have to choose. The VA here chose for me. Just like active duty.
  21. Well I would guess that the live ones could be infected by you if you have something infectious but don't know of it. Or if they have something infectious and you need to care for them you could be infected. Essentially if it is a dead body I guess the medical personnel are the only one at risk. D
  22. Lots of problems using masks properly and getting people to do so but I have to say to ME it seems to be logical and/or common sense that while not perfect spreading of germs/viruses or whatever are bound to be reduced if masks are worn by people. You may not be able to prove it but as Mr Spock said it is logical. It may not be perfect but it is surely better than nothing. If that were not the case I ask why they wear them in the operating room or on the wards in hospital/clinics or what ever where the possibility of infection is high. You ever see someone around something really stinky how fast they will cover up their mouth and nose. Too bad coronvirus doesn't smell really bad.
