  1. vlad, quite a few similar experiences. The lady/group that left her cell phone on the table also abandon a cooler. The bear knocked it off the table and was biting into the cans . Most were light duty aluminum but a few were heavier duty cans. I once came back from somewhere and walked over to relax in my zero gravity chair under the awning and I noticed a bite mark that must have been very tentative a the teeth went between the weave and didn't break a thread. I assume that some one came into the area and it took off without doing more damage. I really enjoyed watching them out there execpt for a few like the one that screwed up my window and nearly gave me a heart attack after it was all over when the adrenlin really kicked in.
  2. I find it interesting that the one I dealt with seem to know to go for the windows. A lot of the others that I sort of scared out of the picnic areas taught me to use a different means on the same bear as they learned so quick there were no real consequences. I would switch from a whistle to banging to rocks shaken in a metal can with a lid and others.
  3. I admire your organizational skills and if that makes you happy what more can you ask? Not being at all critical but that would make me crazier than I already am. Just being nosey I wonder what you did in your work life.

Of course from my point of view all dust off pilots deserved at least a Silver Star. If we get started though we can't stop there. There so many more that I believe deserve way more. Like most MOH recipients say, they are not more deserving but are representing so many others that deserve recognition. I was just in it for the money. 😁 I think I was an E-3 the whole time I was there but don't trust my memory so I could have been a PFC. The big money was in the combat pay, right?
  5. You can bet way more than even money that in camping areas that they have been fed. I have seen raccoons in dumpsters but never anything like the picture that was posted.
  6. I don't know about yours but to replace mine I would have to take the entire door out. Depending on the way it is I would consider using some type of glue or caulking. I would be real careful with anything that you could not get out or off unless you really know you have got it right. I did a very minor "patch" at least 15 or more years ago using some type glue that I don't even remember what I used. It was low near the floor and can be seen in with the door open but doesn't look bad.
  7. A friend had one of the turbokools on his travel trailer. He said it was helpful but you can have issues with the quality and quantity of the water. He had a lot of solar so that was not much of an issue. When I knew him he was pretty much in the mountains at low elevations near Albuquerque. They hopefully have a "monsoon" season and it was of limited use at those times. (Not the kind of monsoon I was used to.) During that time their humidity goes up considerably and according to the locals it is miserable but being from the south I am still waiting to see the high humidity here. I don't know what it is like where RV is now but he will probably croak before he notices it based on where he came from to his location now. He will probably be able to count the mesquitos now vs mistaking a swarm for a flock of birds in northern Louisiana.

I still have too much of that sometimes but pretty much remember I don't have the butt to back it up. I would say now I fall in the aligator- hummingbird camp. A good example of what Kirk's uncle dealt with is what happened in MOH winner Roy Benevidez case. An incredible military history among so many more.
  9. Just wondered if you weighed the material you took out and the parts -materials you put in?
  10. msgt.z I assume you are at Kirtand AFB rather than Kirkland. I am currently volunteering with the Sandia Ranger Dist. Have you got your free military version of the America the beautiful pass? If not you need to get one unless you already have the lifetime senior pass if you are old enough.

I have said this before but I respect anyone that served and were subject to deployment. I did not do much in my humble opinion and sometimes it is just the luck of the draw. When I was an active Marine I came back to my old unit from SEA/aka sunny VN and a friend that had been at the same place his entire hitch until the got orders for VN and he only had 9 1/2 months left on his enlistment. I had enough time for a full 13 mo. tour and tried to find a way to go in his place but in all the wisdom of the military we couldn't make it happen. Who knows? I did not do this for him per se but for my own reasons that may or may not have been stupid.
  12. Certainly no big deal. Please don't talley all the mistakes I have made on the forum. I just want to keep us all out of the slammer.😄
  13. Maybe it was a federal grand jury that my boss was assigned to. It was a long time back and I was thinking it was a year but might have been longer. He was an on post employee at Ft Hood and I think he lived at Gatesvile just north of Ft. Hood. I believe there is a state prison at Gateville. If it was federal I wonder where he had to report to. Maybe Waco? I think in the whole time period he was used 2-3 times but I'm not sure as I was an off post Ft Hood employee based out of Dallas 10 years and Texarkana 6 years.
  14. If you are referring to the vehicle inspection it is 3days not 3 months if you are already a TX resident. On jury duty I have received way more jury summons from Polk county than I did in my whole life in Texas. I have wondered if it is because death row is there. Also I don't know why but I have not received one in a long time. I think one of the biggest worries might be being selected to serve on a grand jury. One of my boss' was selected and he was on call for a year if I remember correctly. I don't believe I have ever heard of an SKP resident saying they were selected for Grand Jury.
  15. Last night after posting I went to recreation.gov and saw that according to them some of our sites will be opening for at least the day use rental sites but the date varies. Some said April, some May 1st and some May 15. IE: most of the sites were listed as a per night fee when the sites are only day use. Like certain day use group sites and picnic pavilions. I am sure that is the case for a lot of the listings around the country.
  16. I don't know what reserveamerica covers these days. The US Forest Svc I think used to use that but now use recreation.gov. And I believe most other federal campgrounds do too now. That being said, I know the forest I am volunteering on has some reservation sites but have suspended reserving them for some time now. In some cases they just went 1st come 1st served so it is pot luck. A lot of sites were not open at all for the last year. Just this week I heard that is in the process of changing in the near future but am not sure exactly when or even if it is true. I do believe it will happen in my best guess. I know we have had some people calling to try and reserve some as it has not been letting people reserve them on line and we can not reserve or rent them at all as of the last week. Who knows what the next few weeks will bring. Also even in a normal season some of ours are only rentable after the main season starts usually around May 1st or 15th. Some of it depending on location and elevevation.
  17. rick they would probably want you if they just got to know you.

I agree and I think it is good for them to relate experience. You can pretty much tell which ones are factual. It is one reason I would like to see your experiences but sure can't fault you for using what works best for you. (facebooK) I have been watching some of the YouTube ones from WW11 lately. Watched a good one this AM. Wish I would have asked my uncle and some others about their experience but since I find it difficult to speak about mine I have a hard time asking about others experience unless I know them really well. Back in my uncles time I was too young and dumb to ask anything. He was in WW11 and recalled for Korea and stayed in untill he had 29 years and about 11 months when he had a heart attack and didn't make it on Kadena in Okinawa just as he was about to retire. I think 1963 or 64.

I frequently blame my memory on my medications whether it is true or not. I think I may have told you in the past I was active Marine and flew out of Danang on Oct. 30, 1968. My brother was there I think 69 or 70 and was on a lrrps team for 18months. You could have pulled him out maybe. We don't talk about stuff much.
  20. There used to be some ERPU sites at Dreamcatcher in Deming, NM. If they eliminated them I wonder if they grandfathered in the people that had those sites. I believe they were all along the very last row.
  21. I know it used to happen and probably still does that sometimes people would rent a certain class of vehicle to take their CDL driving test in Texas. Of course it would have to be insured and inspected.

so is this only available on facebook? No dig on anyone for using facebook but I don't and likely never will as I have a grudge against them for some damage caused in my extended family. I know it could happen anywhere and that is a downside of the internet. Anyway after my rant it does look interesting though I am glad I never had to use your services.
