  1. That depends a lot on what you are doing. In many cases you may be easily identifiable as a volunteer but they are mad about something to do with the process or the agency and you happen to be the 1st person they see or the only one available to vent on from the agency. Most of the time if I handle it right they will end up understanding at least and will appreciate my helping them the best I can. Some incidents actually end up being fun and entertaining. My first year volunteering I was a site host where for the first time ever there was a $3. fee and people were just not used to it. Most of the time I was the only one around to bitch to. A few even blamed me. One guy once threatened to report me to Pete Dominici the former senator. I said I don't blame him as when off duty I did not like the fee either. I asked him at one point if he would like my mother's phone no. so he could report me to her. We had two on site protest during that summer season. They mostly fizzled. I ended up playing frisbee with one of them after we had discussed the matter. I usually defuse things with humor and mostly it it successful. Once or twice I was actually threatened with bodily harm. Usually alcohol was involved. One DA pulled out a knife from about 50-60yards away to try and intimidate me. He ended up putting the knife away and walked away laughing. Good thing it worked out that way because it would have been bad for both of us by the time he crossed the 10yard line. Whew, was I happy I was extra funny that day. One park I worked in the beltway shooters around DC had camped in but nothing happened in the park. Also I had one person dumped there that had some kind of mental issue. Depending where you are there can be dangerous situations that come up to be honest. But in truth a couple of times I got scared most had to do with weather, mostly tornadoes nearby with no real good place to shelter. But I dodged a bullet in those cases too. I am not really that funny but can I really throw the BS when necessary.
  2. Even the public ones can have issues. They are the only ones I have ever done. In some I would occasionally catch hell from the public, in some there are employees that are an issue and sometimes other volunteers are a big pain. Ultimately the ones that appreciate you so out weigh the others that I dread the day I am not able to do it anymore.
  3. So let me get this straight. You are telling me my Phizer covid shot may also help me with my love life. Pllllease! Derek, what are you drinking lately. You are getting positively comedic in a number of your recent observations.🤓
  4. Can I get a big Amen brother.
  5. Maybe leaks are rare but they happen and it really doesn't matter why if they cause enough damage or loss of life. A lot of this I really did not pay much attention to. The first one I was really cognizant of was I believe in the country sort of neat Luling Tx. An AF senior Nco and his wife topped a hill and started down to a lower spot and boom. Instant death. I think most gas will settle into a low spot like a creekbed. Pipeline leak caused it. Really rural area. Same thing happened to 2 teenagers some where near the Trinity River in rural Kaufman County east of Dallas. My point is lets not sugar coat it. No questions pipelines are necessary and may be better in most cases but litterally nothing is infallible. One key issue is maint. and everyone always promises to maintain but down the road it falls of in many cases and of course we don't always want to spend the money to have diligent inspectors. And we sure don't want those pesky government inspectors.
  6. I don't know how they are doing it now but my daughter at St. Jude said that they were testing everyone every 4 days. St Jude is obviously a pretty critical situation and have their own lab of course so I assume their protocol is more strict. I also presume they pretty much know what they are doing. My thinking is if you were exposed it may be that it is X number of days before you can pass it to someone else. I have not asked about this lately so it may be different now. Her unit so far has had no one test positive. Mask Mask Mask, wash wash wash distance distance distance. (Little useless bragging but I hope it keeps up)
  7. Are current silver dollars "clad" coins? Are the boxes of 500 new coins?
  8. So how do you know that what you buy is the quality of gold or silver you pay for. .....Maybe by weight...? IE 14 carat vs 24 carat or maybe even pure if there truly is such a thing. I have some gold teeth that I am sure someone will harvest but my daughter isn't interested in doing it or having it done. Sounds kind of gross but I doubt a mortuary of crematorium will put them in the ground or melt them. Maybe they could offset the cost of the service.
  9. I do not know about all aspects of solar and wind and other means of generation but there are plenty of other things that will be built using the electricity generated. If you end up making less then you may have to adapt some way. I hope it would all work out well for you but there are not always guarantees for the future. I have been a member of three different union over my career life and was mostly glad I was but they were not a guaranee I would always have a job at a specific pay. I had no choice but to adapt the best I could and I would think with your skills you can too. Sometimes in the interim I have had 3 jobs at a time to support my kids. I got put out to pasture medically just as I turned 47 and I have saved more money living frugally and volunteering than I ever did when working.
  10. Am I not technically correct that at least for some time period you do own a share of some product or business but you do not have it in your physical hands or your physical control. Of course many people are holding their gold or silver or whatever but am I correct that many people are not in physical control of their gold or silver? If you are holding it you must be securing it in some way. That could be a serious challenge for some RV'rs.
  11. Valid thoughts about the issues for sure. I have thought about what stops your neighbor from plugging in to your electric while you are gone. It will happen some just like people stealing your gas or diesel but mostly they will come up with solutions. At this point I just can't picture what they might be.
  12. Well said RandyA but in case you have not realized it you and me are just spinning our wheels.
  13. I personally don't equate common sense with feelings. But as I said it is obvious you are already convinced of your belief so just do your thing but not around me.
  14. Sometimes this just happens for multiple reasons. Covid may cause people to change their plans often at the last minute. I remember at least 2 instances of the same issue at a couple of co-op parks. The one I remember most is Coursegold in Cal. That had a list that I think was estimated at over 2 years at the least. What with a lot of us being old and fluid the list dropped way quicker than anyone expected. It just worked out that way. I am on the list for a couple of other places outside of escapees. One place had an openning a number of months ago but with my current situation I ended up declining for now. The other has an estimated 2 year wait but could change just as quick. That being said there are a couple I wish I had signed up for 10years ago. Heck I didn't expect to live this long.
  15. There is certainly change in the usage of electricity. A simple example is the power consumption of an led vs an incandescent. We are adapting equipment constantly to be more efficient. I kind of think that may play a big part. I'm not big on adapting my old self to change but I recognize it is happening and as much out of necessity as anything else. I am concerned about committing to something that may not work but the alternative could be pretty dire.
  16. Personal observation and interaction.. You are already convinced in another viewpoint which is your right but to me common sense plays a major part.
  17. In theory if the newspaper is mailed it should still be held since it is mail. A lot of "subs' are every bit as good as a regular depending on if they read instructions that used to be written. Even on presorted tubs on a walking route carriers were often doing I final sort in their fingers as they went house to house as the presorts might be off just a house or two. There used to be and I am sure still is a lot of pressure to get out of the office and onto the street doing delivery. At one PO I worked at we had an auxilary route that did not have an assigned carrier so often a different person might carry it or parts of it every day. Also there was a lot of new construction so the auxilary route could grow quickly and may even be split on different parts of the district. Having a good regular on your route is not always a good answer but most often it works well. I have carried behind a regular that was more screwed up than the worst sub. Not just the post office but if every company or entity did right and dealt fairly with their employees there would be no need for unions. Unfortunately that is not the case. Once when I was carrying a man cut across a parking lot taking a short cut to lunch. Hit me in the rear of the postal vehicle. He was honest and signed a statement admitting it was his fault. The post office tried to fire me for backing into him. Thanks to the union I kept my job and rightly so.
  18. Unless that is another thing that changed since I worked for them that is on your carrier. You may have a regular carrier which -usually- makes things go better but you could have a sub that is a regular carrier that is not assigned a specific route.
  19. Years ago I was eating at restaruant with co-workers and one said his uncle had just died recently. He said it was a problem since he died in the bathroom and he had a 4.0 body but the bathroom only had a 2.0 door. It struck me as so funny I ended up doing a spit take with my iced tea and could not stop laughing for at least 5 minutes. For those that don't know doors are often stated in width of openning in terms like 2.0-2ft, 2.6- 2ft 6in. etc. I help get a guy out of a motorhome bedroom years ago and the hallway and inner door were fairly narrow and he was passed out so limp and completely dead weight. WOW, I think I am starting a new diet right away.😀
  20. It might not hurt to scale it with a certified ticket. At that weight I do not think you will have to but better safe than sorry. Try to scale it as dead empty it as possible. I am told trailers under 7500 do not need a safety inspection. Check like Kirk said. On my newest tow p/u if I had run just one more gallon of gas before scaling I would have been under a thresh-hold by about 8 pounds. I came out at an even 8000.lbs. I can't remember for sure but I think my tags would have been slightly less each year.
  21. Kirk, I am glad you posted this in a more prominent spot. This makes me wonder if we need one more topic area on the forum for this type of information. Maybe incorporated with people that a leaving from active forum. Any chance you can move the post under rv accessories for sale up here and incorporate it.?
