  1. For Apple iPhone & iPad users - you can scan physical multipage documents in the Notes app and send them via email, text, air drop, etc. Not sure if you can send them to a fax number.
  2. There are eddy current/air clutch fan drives as well as air clutch (on or off) and viscous coupling drives. Viscous drives look like the one on your pickup except bigger. On off air clutches have a clutch disc looking hub - you can actually see the friction material and a gap when it is in the "fan off" position. They engage with a roar and 35hp reduction to the drive wheels. The eddy current drive will use magnetic magic to drive the fan at low engine rpm / idle to provide some constant flow through the a/c condenser. These look kinda like a clutch on or off type fan except the fan doesn't stand still with the engine running. Don't stick your fingers in there to see if you can stop it.

    Will it fit?

It's in my inventions file: a small spray system that applies biodegradable slippage fluid to RV trailer tires in tight skidding turns.

    Tires

Scientists say dihydrogen monoxide vapor is a serious greenhouse gas, many times more effective than carbon dioxide in containing surface heat on the earth, like how a overcast winter desert night is warmer than a clear sky night. Scientists say you need suitable tires to drive on dihydrogen monoxide in it's solid or crystal form.
  5. Carburetor cleaned and put back into as new condition. And Little Red is back in business. One pull starting like a Honda should. He’s got non ethanol gas in him now.
  6. I'm spoilt. We can buy 91 non ethanol gas here. What was my excuse? Yup late last summer I filled the wee Honda with 87 10% ethanol gasohol. "I gotta remember to drain that." I sez to myself... Did I mention the Onan 5500 in the Big Toyhauler that sat the exact same number of days unstarted has 91 non ethanol Shell V-power that is 1-1/2 years old in it's tank? Did I mention it started fine? 🤣 hemstead yes I will be learned once I get Little Red goin again. It hasn't made the top of the list yet but close. I'm tellin ya some days I'm going to get business cards made: "Wile E. Coyote, Super Genius" except with my name not his if you know what I mean...
  7. The lower the driver's level of skill and experience...(not managing vehicle energy, not anticipating traffic, not understanding traction, not understanding wind, thinking climbing a grade is a race, etc etc) The more an "over spec'd" truck can save the situation.

    Tires

Are we still allowed to install dry ice for balance when mounting tires to the rim?
  9. That article looks interesting Vern. But I’m going to have to wait to read it on the home ‘puter… I can’t see the writing on my phone 🤣🤣
  10. I believe it has a 7 year shelf life. I believe it was developed by a one armed pro gardener who could only get his weed whacker started 1/2 the time…
  11. And of course it has nothing to do with the "quality" of the genny... I was just having some fun with the title... It was 100% owner oops. Kirk I use Aspen gas in a chain saw that gets started maybe 3 times a year now. It goes first pull. It's not the gas you use for everyday all day running. I had plans to service this Honda with it last fall so if we lost power here this winter at 20 below I would have a genny that would start to keep the furnaces in the trailer lit. I guess I didn't do that and I guess we didn't need it hahaha... good thing. Just to reinforce not to do it again I am going to wait until a beautiful motorcycling day to clean the carb rather than ride a bike. The pain will reinforce the lesson. I thought I might rescue the situation with a rich mixture of sea foam - but nope the little bugger ran for 30 minutes with full choke on. Reduce choke - splutter spit phart splutter - take choke off - dies.
  12. On a windy day it is quite interesting to tow a long tail weathervane RV "fiver" and then hook up to a stock trailer of the same length and weight with the same won ton. One can be like your truck got drunk and the other is like you are on rails.
  13. That's how you are supposed to title a drama post, right? Anyways, it happened. My Honda 2000 had a rejected start. I pull him 20 times he says "Nope." Primed the cylinder and it runs on full choke only. I sez: "DANG it!" That will learn me for not draining the gasohol and getting straight synthetic gas (I use Aspen) into it before storage last fall.
  14. A place for information in the planning stage is commercial vehicle dimension regulations. "Maximum box length" is the dimension from the center of the rear axle or rear axle group to the rear of the vehicle. It is intended to account for body swing in turns. Of course the vehicles turning radius is the other factor. RV trailers with their teeter totter axle placement design have yuuuge body swing if they are towed by a sharp turning commercial truck made for deliveries to 1880's infrastructure. A booster axle extension like an Idaho Tote adds itself to the box length because it is not a trailer it is a frame extension so off it goes in the other direction when you carve around that tight corner. Anyways, there is a solution - steering trailers: Simard Suspensions video - steering trailers A Big Fiver could have it's wheels back where they belong on a semi trailer and still get into the best spots ever.
  15. I saw the truck cruising the other way E Lake Mead Parkway in Henderson, NV a winter or two ago. An ex U-Haul International chassis, Diamond Reo cab and front sheet metal, a shortened aluminum travel trailer body, bit of flat bed at rear -if I remember.
  16. A little searching around the interweb will find information on the various systems being researched.
  17. Several thousand of the little swines met their demise getting in the way of my truck camper outfit the other day. They don't have the guts to do that again.
  18. You can order a new class 8 truck with a Cummins natural gas engine. Tankage is an issue - you need 4x the gallons for equivalent diesel range. Torque output per litre displacement is lower than diesel - gas engine has lower cylinder pressure. s A promising tech for long haul trucks is the on board recovery of plant respiration gas (CO2) as well as real pollutants (NOx etc) which is then pumped off at terminal locations rather than emitted into the atmospheres.

    $105.00 Mistake

Ya once upon a decade I ran a KW winch truck with a 30 ton hydraulic winch (60 tons double lined). It would pull on stuff. If the footing was poor we had a pair of chocks with chains you hooked to the rear skirt...and pull some more. Then anchor to another truck or cat or something off the front... now we can pull. The trick with winching yourself out is having an anchor point somewheres in the direction you need to go.
  20. Escapees North Ranch near Congress, AZ has an RV weigh service - you can weigh each wheel position for detailed results / adjustments.
