  1. While living 50 plus years in Penna., I was called twice, wife never. First time, the case involved a fellow that I worked with for a number of years. I was picked for the jury and of course was asked, "do you have any problem serving on this jury"? Told them "that you need to know I worked with the fellow and in the same dept". Both attorneys looked at one another, then one asked "if it would affect my decision"? I said "no" and was told to stay in place. The reason for the trial was sort of ridiculous, and after it was over resembled something you might see on a TV judge show. The second time, I was picked for a trial and fortunately it was settled moments before going to trial. A guy's wife had hit him up along side the head with a Dust Buster! Between the first time I was called and the second they completely changed the selection process which realy worked so much better. The first time the process of selecting was a super PITA. When I was a kid my mother was on a jury that was sequestered. What a situation that created. After going fulltime and establishing domicile in Polk County, my wife and myself received numerous Polk County jury notices. Everyone was after we were to have reported. Called and it was no problem. I forget at what age in Texas you can bail from jury duty, but our names were off the rolls. A former park manager here in Yuma, AZ. that I was friends with was called jury duty and out that pool of jurors was some were going to get picked to sit on a high profile murder for hire trial. And of course there was probably going to be sequestering which did happen. My friend was a couple of years shy of being able to bail due to age. He was picked for the trial and was on fulltime oxygen. Of course was asked "if he had a problem serving" and told the judge he would due to needed air and if sequestered would be an issue. Judge's come back was "I need to see a doctors note". Good thing it wasn't me!
  2. jkoenig24, sure go along with the lack of "yipe stripes".
  3. Yuma Territorial Prison. Plan accordingly, as I doubt you want to do the tour at 115 degrees. But it sure would give the "real feel" of what is was like. Yuma Proving Ground museum.
  4. That is a bummer, Chad. We always have a good time there. We will be back up to Q next week for the "RV Show".
  5. The 2020 January Quartzsite Happy Hour will be Tuesday January 14, 2020, at 1-3 PM. It will again be on the Plamosa Rd. on the left and there is small signage. Bring your drink and a snack to share. The last few years, the weather has been outstanding and the crowd likewise.
  6. Another business: https://amsolar.com/solar-panels-for-rv They are Escapees Commercial members.
  7. This Wednesday, Jan 8 at 10 AM. is the January Get Together at Foothills Food and Spirits, exit Foothills Blvd. off I-8, southwest corner of S. Frontage RD. and Foothills Blvd. As always, breakfast or lunch may be ordered. All SKPs in the area re invited to attend.
  8. Yes, and don't forget to remove jewelry while working on batteries. I had a friend that about lost his ring finger when his wedding band arched between a positive battery post and a ground on an Airstream diesel pusher. The batteries on that rig were absolutely a PITA to change or work on.
  9. I've watched these ever since they came on the market. My opinion then and still now is that they are for somebody who thinks they need a diesel but it will always be a grocery-getter and day tripping pickup. If you want a diesel for towing put "your big boy pants on". It will be interesting to see if in the future these small diesels will have the longevity of the old Datsun and VW diesels.
  10. We use the Boulder City Elks Lodge RV Park when in the Vegas area. Nice RV Park and great lodge. Drive right in Boulder Hiway for the exact reasons ToddF posted. And Lake Mead Recreation Area just out the road.
  11. Sam's Club for gas, not so much for diesel as they are few and far between. Kroger gas/fuel points as Smith's and Fry's have many fuel stations and if they don't they usually have a "partner" in the area.
  12. We will be on our RV lot here in the Foothills of Yuma, AZ. Going out to dinner with some friends to the Golden Corral. Merry Christmas everyone!
  13. We are fulltiming in our 2004 Alfa Gold 38' fiver that we bought new in October of 2003 at Earnhardt's RV in Mesa, AZ. when we started to fulltime. It took us about 18 months before going fulltime to decide what we wanted. Now you have to realize that we had RVed since 1974 so we should have had a good handle what we were going to need. First, a 1974 Viking tent trailer, then a 1976 Prowler travel trailer, and the 3rd, a 1988 Terry travel trailer. All of which served us well. After about 16 months of comparison we had narrowed our selection down to a Hitchhiker Champaign and the Alfa. Both were sold at Earnhardt's lot, so we only needed to walk about 100' from one to the other. When Alfas's were being built there was always a love/hate relationship from owners. We have always liked ours. Storage galore, layout that works. You also have to realize that I am the repairman on this unit. Never have done anything but normal maintenance, no stuck slides, no landing gear issues, etc. Never been back to the factory or a repair facility. We did have a warranty problem with a Carefree Slide Cover Awning and an Atwood stove problem. Never bothered calling Earnhardt's or Alfa. Just dealt directly with Carefree and Atwood. Folks ask us when we are going to a new unit. Ain't gonna happen unless this unit should get totaled. Too much "fluff"' and useless stuff on new units and basically all the vendor supplied products are the same as 16 years ago! Some of the issues we see while on the road with new units are unbelievable. A couple of years ago while parked in Island Park, ID. a group of 3 motorhomes came in from the FMCA rally in Gillette, WY. One parked beside us and he and I started a conversation about their travels and the rally. During the conversation he mentioned about problems while on the trip. He had a 5 year old motorhome, while the other two couples HAD to have new coaches before leaving the east coast. One new one had it's first problem entering Kentucky and the other made it all the way to Indiana before issues arose that had to be taken care of before continuing on the trip. His older coach already had the bugs taken care of. This Alfa has been all over the West and Alaska. Many people that are familiar with fivers call the Alfa's flattops because of the straight back roofs which really opens up the inside.
  14. In light of this post, an interesting situation came to light in the latter part of 2017 and into 2018. Seeing drones and ultralights flying over the Foothills area east of Yuma, AZ., especially during the "snowbird season" was a daily occasion. Somebody in the Foothills brought up that it was a "no-fly" zone due to the Yuma Marine Corp Air Station. The Barry Goldwater Range basically goes from the south of 55th St. and east to nearly Gila Bend and Lukeville. and the Mexican border. It turns out the "no fly" zone includes the prior mentioned area and the north border is I-8. After the info came out, the drone flying has been zilch. Ultralights seem to have also disappeared, but on rare occasion there may be one, but it seems like it is a one time flight as somebody has informed the pilot about the no-fly zone. About a 1/4 mile from our RV lot there was several guys that flew their model airplanes out in the desert several times a week. That has also disappeared.
  15. This Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 10 AM. is the December Get Together at Foothills Food and Spirits, exit Foothills Blvd. off I-8, southwest corner of S. Frontage RD. and Foothills Blvd. As always, breakfast or lunch may be ordered. All SKPs in the area re invited to attend.
  16. I'm confused too. We have had an electric awning for 16 years of fulltiming. And it is original. It does just fine without support. We never leave with it rolled out. And if it does get windy we bring it in. It does have a wind sensor on it which is totally worthless. Tiny Tee, if yours has a wind sensor on it what happens if it starts to roll in with the support poles engaged?
  17. Our first visit to the "Big Tent' was in 2004. At that time there were tire manufactures, hauler bed manufactures, hitch manufactures, satelite TV outfits, etc. anything RV related. I still run up a day from Yuma to do the "Tent", pizza at Silly Al's and a couple of brewski's at the VFW. But in the tent now, there is one satelite outfit with numerous spots in the tent, the same goes for LED bulbs. Copper bracelets, Chinese messages, "As Seen on TV" cookware, you know the routine, "it slices, it dices, it purees". Oh, and I forgot, polishing vendors, still wiping on the same hood, fender etc. as they did last year. Vendors used to be lined up on the main drag, now there is parking where they used to be.
  18. You could check at the Escapees park in Deming. They may have a list of recommendations at the office. Here in Yuma there are folks who have had floors redone. And maybe there are some outfits that come to Q for that purpose.
  19. First thing to do would be take your volt meter, check to see if you 120 VAC coming into your converter, if so, then check to see if you have 12 DC leaving the converter. Then proceed depending on those two tests.
  20. Several days ago we received an email from CampSKP.net. about "signing up". Has anyone heard of it or have knowledge of it? I do have an email into Judy Wilson of the Boondockers BOF to see if she has heard of the outfit.
  21. There is Senators Wash area that is BLM land just north of Yuma. Also on US 95 just before getting to Yuma is a free 14 day BLM area just behind the VFW. Both areas are popular and safe for singles. The WINS and LOWs' are in the area behind the VFW over Christmas and New Years. Beware, many Arizona State Trust Lands are now off limits to RVs.
  22. The first Yuma SKP Get Together for the 2019/2020 "winter" will be Wednesday Nov 13 at 10 AM at Foothills Food and Spirits Restaurant. Exit Foothills Blvd. just south of exit ramp. All SKPS in the area are welcome! Breakfast or lunch may be ordered.
  23. The answer is correct. Just to reassure you, we did this for years while ours came due when we were in Yuma, AZ. for the winter.
  24. Yes Kirk and so is "snow". And looking at the Kalispell newspaper this AM, I hope our friend Vern is in for the long haul.
