  1. TXiceman, I know what you are saying. But it is when they did it, when they started it, and the reason for doing it. As of yesterday, Saturday AM, my wife went on the website. No mention of the surcharge!
  2. Kirk W, I think they are a great idea. There are numerous ones in the Foothills area where we have our RV lot.
  3. We have been fulltiming for 17 years. Left Pennsylvania, cut all ties with them. Since then we have been out west, spend winters in Yuma, AZ. travel north in the summer. We were in the same park in Yuma for about 14 years. I like the RV park atmosphere but when the park changed ownership a couple of times, enough was enough. So fortunately in the Foothills on the east side of Yuma there are RV lots in residential areas. Most have 2 FHU's, Mexican brick wall on the sides and back with a gate on the front. We can put 2 RV's, or stick built house, or 1 mobile, or 1 modular, or 1 park model. There are hundreds of these lots in the area that are for sale or rent. We just come and go when we want. If you look on Yuma Craig's List under "For Rent" and "For Sale you can see pictures of what I'm describing. Next month there will be many more to view. In all our travels over the years we have never run across anything like this situation.
  4. Just read the story on NBCMontana. I don't think we are going to Oregon from where we are now in Montana to finish the summer off, but this surcharge would turn into an immediate drive-thru situation for us. I'd tell them to "go pound sand" very quickly! This should immediately become reciprocal with an Oregon plated vehicle coming into any state park that already doesn't have an "out of state fee" in place. We never stay at a state park that has a non-resident fee anyway.
  5. US 95 reopening during daylight hours. https://www.eastidahonews.com/2020/08/temporary-road-around-us-95-now-open-during-daylight-hours-after-rock-slides/
  6. Ray,IN, just yesterday when I read this thread I didn't have time to reply but I knew our rig had a drip plug. It is a 2004 Alfa fiver and the first time I was under the rig doing something, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I would have bet some bucks that there wouldn't be one. Surprise, surprise.
  7. I have replaced two cooling units over the years. Not that bad of a job. What we did was put our coffee table covered with a piece of carpet at the bottom of the refer cabinet, slid the refer out of the hole standing it on the coffee table. Then we laid it door down on the table after removing what needed to be done in the cold box and freezer. As per instructions just followed thru. One thing I distinctly remember was the prying loose of the old coil. Thought that was the end of the reefer. But followed thru and everything went according "to Hoyle" even though "Hoyle" wasn't there. Slid back in the hole connected everything, vacuumed up the floor and within several hours it started cooling down.
  8. New info on going from Lower 48, thru Canada to Alaska. https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/canada-alaska-new-coronavirus-restrictions/index.html
  9. Sounds like bygone days, "Scotchgard, undercoat, and dealer's prep. Just say no!
  10. Not knowing the terrain in the area another thing comes to mind, low limbs could be a natural killer.
  11. Well corporate America put on a good PR deal for last Monday, when several banded together with "you can't come in with no mask". Didn't take long for at least one of them to break ranks and become spineless, not suprising.
  12. Part of the problem is the closure of campgrounds in Yellowstone National Park putting pressure on other facilities. Glad dennisrv, you got a site. Some will pull up stakes and move on and you can slide into their vacated spot.
  13. We did it online way back when, but when we left Yuma June 1 I sure didn't see any effort at all.
  14. dennisrv, you can certainly do the pass on RT. 22 with an HDT. But we were just over the pass two weeks ago coming from Jackson to Victor in just our dually. We usually go over there at least once every year we are there. As always, when catching the traffic light at Wilson, the only thing you smell is overheated brakes and sometimes with smoke added. The locals that have to drive it, dumpers and some loggers have a pretty good handle on it. But I have seen "foreign" semi-drivers smoking too. Most stop at the top and then go. Another thing is that it is a scenic tourist route so you can have some dip sees something and jams on the brakes to look at whatever so you need to be prepared. I personally think it is a macho thing with some RV folks to do it. Since I be the head wrench on this here rig, I don't and won't do it. A good description is in Mountain Directory West. Easiest thing is go to Alpine Junction and come back up which is also a very scenic drive.
  15. You know Vern, a friend of ours from K-town was in yesterday. They also noted the empty shelves. We were surprised at the empty shelves too. They look a little worse for this time of the year which is surprising since our northern neighbors can't come across the border. They really hit that shopping area hard, what with Lowes, Home Depot, Costco, and Wally in the same area.
  16. We were just at Walmart in Kalispell, MT. They are using the main door for both entrance and exit. Going in right side door and exiting, the left side door. There were two employees at the "in" side, didn't see what they were doing but assuming that if not masked, they asked you to mask up. The Montana governor has made masking up mandatory. We were very pleasantly surprised by the numbers. It sure might have been 100% or if not darn near. Everybody I saw was good to go.
  17. In hindsight Glenn, I didn't take any pictures. One thing I forgot to add in my original post was that he fabricated wind deflectors that went from the front of the front cap to the lead cross piece that supported the solar panels.
  18. Glenn, last week there was a converted Greyhound bus in a Forest Service CG we were in. Unfortunately, I never got to talk to the owner about his solar. He had panels from about 3' from the front cap to about 3' from the rear cap from side to side.. There were 3 roof airs under the panels. The panels themselves were mounted on aluminum framing. The framing started on the left and right side of the bus roof which is of course radiused. He had approx., looking from the ground, about 4" of clearance above the AC covers. Of course this made the side supports quite high. I can only assume he didn't have problems.

Pappy, sure not trying to hijack the thread but quite a few Kohls take some Amazon returns. Don't know what hoops you might have to jump thru. Might be worth a look-see. Good luck.
  20. U. S. 95 near Riggins is closed indefinitely due rock slides. https://www.eastidahonews.com/2020/07/u-s-95-closed-indefinitely-after-more-boulders-crash-onto-highway/
  21. Yuma County AZ., the sewer hose must be off the ground and a tight seal connection from your hose to the park sewer fitting. From time to time I would see a County vehicle come thru the park, the driver would alternate looks from one side of the park road to other looking between RVs at the hookup. Any violations, he would jot down the site number and give it to the park office. The manager would then get it corrected. Violations were very rare.
  22. We aren't motorhome owners but sure have no problem waiting on an MH driver to unhook the toad while we wait on the campground road. Really no different than us tying up the road until we get our fiver backed in.
  23. aztex, as some posters have already stated, get out of Cali. Reviews, I doubt we have ever used a review for a stay or a drive-by at an RV park. Everybody has a different opinions on wants or needs for an RV park. Any advertising for an RV park will rarely match what you actually see when you get there. A throwback to Good Sam and Woodall's books from years gone by.
  24. What Barbara said, they start cancelling in September and on in to October. Happens every year.
  25. whj469, yes it is until at least July 21 for non-essential travel.
