  1. And fuel mileage would be horrible.
  2. I gotta say, that it's looking like a switching device, rather than a resistor. Quick and dirty check? Use an old analog meter on the motor leads, and adjust the knob. Meter set to DC volts, of course. That drawing posted by Pat, and your pics, show simple "magic" boxes, not resistor symbols.
  3. The Jackalope is nothing more than a box with relays and terminal strips for wires in and out. It will "play" with anything you connect to it, as far as brake controllers go.
  4. I guess I forgot to answer the posted question. We don't talk about the cost, it costs exactly what it costs. It does feel like death by 1000 cuts, some days, but one must soldier on. There's only one alternative to rising costs of living, and we're not ready for that.
  5. Ahem, we got room for our Alaska bound friends. Might even be able to get the North Country Rallye off the ground.
  6. If they want me to stop bad enough, they can run me down, for a roadside conversation. Texas Port of Entry ran us down, bobtail, but had already identified us as an RV by the RV hitch in place of the monster plate usually seen on a working truck. Easy talk about the facts of (RV) life with a KW, as he was thinking of doing the same after retirement.
  7. I read the article. If you did any research on the weather of the Ottawa valley, you'd know they regularly see summer conditions close to New Orleans. Temps approaching 100 and humidity in the 90 percent range. Conditioning could have prepared her for the workout she was going into, but the article didn't cover that aspect.
  8. What does Ottawa have to do with anything? 100+ degree temps, plus underprepared, plus extra activity equals trouble. No matter where you're from. From the article, the reports came in at 5:20 pm, pretty much the peak temperature time of day.
  9. I know it doesn't help much, but that's a wire harness issue. Where the issue is, I default to the "Truck needs to be in front of me" line.
  10. Thanks for the update. Best wishes from Canada.
  11. Any is better than none. In the end, it's all bragging rights and chest thumping.
  12. Kenwood has an interface module, makes all the factory functions work as intended. We had the choice of a single DIN, with a slide out double DIN screen, or the true double. The single felt gimmicky, and prone to wear damage, so we used the true double. The single would have fit with just an adapter, but the double did involve a saw, and some permanent modifications. Controls were relocated.
  13. Yup, used a double DIN head unit from Kenwood. Came with a rear view camera, and Bluetooth hands free cell connection.
  14. Normal thermostat range is 180-200. Most common is probably 185 or 190. Dash gauge should run close to that.
  15. Don't sweat it. There's nothing you can break that we can't fix. Just reach out, we're here to help.

    Air leak..ugh

In the vein of Chet's repair, I've drilled out one of the passthrough ports and used a bulkhead union to replace it. Looks factory, until you look closer.

Yup, read the tutorial provided above. It's a little work, not just fishing around with a pick.
  18. We were talking about Sam's Club stores, not Costco. Thanks for the link, though.
  19. Research shows 1 still open in Ontario. Never seen 1, but we're a long way from the population dense region of Ontario.
  20. Never been a Sam's club in Canada. Just FYI.
  21. Local Kenworth dealer has a pallet in the parts area @ $99.99 for 850 CCA. Check truck dealers, they sell as a loss leader.
  22. In engineering terms; the valve stiction is the highest when the pressure differential is highest, and surface area in contact is maximized. In layman's terms, pull harder or dump sooner.
  23. I quit running Michelin tires on the work truck. Too much gravel roads chewing the treads off. Rubber seemed to be too soft. Cooper's gave good life, as did Hankook's. The BFG had a slightly lesser tread life than the Cooper's, and cost a lot more.
  24. Diesel don't care about sitting, unless the ambient humidity is tropical beach like. There's no light ends to flash off. All across the Great Plains, there's farm equipment that gets used for maybe 4 weeks per year. The rest of the time, it sits. As far as cost goes, we're running $2 per litre. Bar napkin figuring, $8 per gallon. I put in 25-35 gallons every time the grocery store points let me. Hurts less, that way.
  25. The fitting in your pic is a simple "Push-to-connect" fitting. There's no ferrules inside. It looks like the tubing is bordering on being too short, causing side pressure on the tube/fitting connection. I'd either replace the tubing (preferable), or replace the fitting with a 90*. Don't forget the tubing absorbs water from the air, and becomes stiffer with time. As far as compression fittings go, make sure you're using DOT fittings, not Home Depot generic fittings, and use a ferrule sleeve.
