  1. Slip a piece of pipe over the lock. lean into it, pop! Lock defeated. Wherever the key grabs is a weak point, and the hardening the crossshaft gets makes it brittle.

Then it's time to learn. Pre-2005 trucks will be cheaper, but will need more repair/refurbishment work and money. Pre-'05 will be emission device free. 2005 began the EGR system, and Cat getting out of the onroad engine market. Emmisions systems get more complicated the newer the truck. Long hood. flat sleeper trucks look cool, but are a pain to live with, as time goes on. Aero trucks, with a setback steer axle, will turn better than any hood truck, with Volvo still the king of turning circle radius. Other brands ar close. A standup sleeper is more freindly day to day, whether for passenger use, or seperate camper use. Bigger sleepers are easier to convert to RV requirements, because there's more room to add things. You need to learn the conversion requirements for YOUR jurisdiction. It's not required to convert over to RV rgistration, but it makes life a lot easier, going forward. Keep asking questions, learn as fast as you can, we won't intentionally steer you wrong.

'04 will have an ISX engine. Do some research before buying an early ISX, which this is. The average education time is approx 1 year, so you're rushing things, given the limited knowledge you have. Do your research, gather some potential candidates, do more research, then buy. It'll be faster and cheaper in the long run.
  4. I shuddered at the pic of the AquaHot. Been there, done that. They do pay good money for the yearly service, though.
  5. Any place that's cold, and has trucks, should have bay space for rent. It won't be cheap, though. It'll probably smell of diesel, exhaust, and grease, too.
  6. Replacement door hinge bushing, for a Jeep. Replaces the almost disposable plastic bushing.
  7. All depends on whether you can keep 'er out of the ditch, off the guard rails, and away from other road users. The most damage comes from the secondary collision. The tire itself may take out a fender, fuel tank, emissions equipment, fuel lines, minor wiring, or even a cooling stack.
  8. craigjanelle, that thing is bigger than our smart car. Probably heavier, too.

    Parts supplier

Does anyone know the maker/supplier of this wheel kit? Any guesses as to it's weight rating? I'd like to source one, but we have a bigger boat, so we may need the dual wheel version.

    Air system

Parked Regen added a bunch of heat under the truck, right near the air tanks. Rear tank gained more Temp than front.
  11. Add in the cost of commercial real estate, utilities, labour, and you start to see why retail is such a hard game. Canada legalized in 2018, there was a flurry of new stores, now they've settled down, with mostly chain operations ruling the scene. My local guy, or personal plants are less than half of retail.
  12. Good call, Jay. Mixing in the wrong blend can also create mud in the cooling system, I'm thinking of the early Dex-Cool blend being topped with green, and absolute chaos resulting.
  13. I'd want to figure out where it went, but to refill, wait until it's cooled down, then add back to the "Full Cold" mark.
  14. Every migration season, in a 2000 mile trip, we will see 3 to 6 dollies on the side of the road. Only trailers we've seen on the side have been getting a tire swapped, before returning to the road. Stay on top of maintenance, and they might be okay, but if we get into this choice, we're going 4 down as first choice, trailer second, and dollie a distant third.
  15. Run the diff vents up and forward, same for crankcase vent. Gas tank could be a problem, so I'd expect some sloshing, and load accordingly. When youngest son had his SxS, we ran the above vents to a common box, along with the belt housing. The box, and thus the vents, were kept just lightly pressurized by a computer fan that drew from above the roof. Can you tell we got some swamp? I've seen that video somehere, but I don't remember where, but I thought there was a discussion thread.
  16. This is kind of like sitting around the campfire, regailing each other with tales of wins, losses, and bitter tears. Specific trouble? Do a search, then post a specific question.
  17. When you have the dryer apart, look inside the lines. Oily residue there is bad news, depending on the volume of oil. Less is better, none is great. Oil residue on the "sneeze" outlet may be simply from road grime.
  18. Sounds like it's time to service it. Also sounds like a compressor may be in your future, depending on how much oil is in the lines to the dryer.
  19. DT 530 is more desirable over the 466. Manual transmission will allow more engine upgrades than the Allison. FL 60s in general, are a well sorted chassis, but the dash plastic is prone to breakage. I think most of it is still available from the dealership. Check the condition of the steady bearing, and all the u-joints during your initial inspection. Rear suspension and cab air bags, too.
  20. Hello All just wanted to remind anyone still on the fence about the National HDT Rally in October early registration ends August 15th price goes up $10 pp. Registration will be available up to start of the Rally. Plenty of space. Also "T"shirt supplies are limited so order goes to the printer same day I will order a few extras but number and sizes will be limited.
  21. What good is a pickup parked in front of every suburban home? Poor commuter mileage, higher insurance costs, higher maintenance costs. Yet they continue to be sold, strictly for commuting.
  22. Every law division has a "Report Impaired Drivers" number available. Use it.
  23. You need to manually strip the extra "img" tags from the copy/paste.
