Got my first shot this morning at the Corpus Christi Mega Clinic.  Waited in line for 6 hours, but when I left there were still people coming in.

Wow!  So sorry for the long wait.  For ours we had an appointment and two cars in front of us.  Absolutely no effects by either of us from the Moderna vaccine - not even a sore arm.

not TX. but here in ca, no one outside of government (as in politically connected or medical/fire/police) can even try to get a shot, this includes any none government ambulance workers. and have been told if and when possible will be only getting a HALF dose. and then one of the makers product has been pulled. as it has been making people very sick.

I'm not understanding your statement.

Adverse reactions are extremely rare.  Look at how many people have received the vaccine.

You really need to update your news sources.   As predicted the 'cluster' at the one clinic in CA for the Moderna turned out not to be significant, just people not aware of the types of reactions that come with vaccinations, over caution on the part of the clinic (which we should all want) in what to report.   And I wouldn't be surprised if there was some effect on people who see others saying they are having a reaction.     Any way they are using the vaccine lot and no one else has seen the same thing at other sites.

well it is not a "significant" number if the makers of said product have pulled it from usage.

and my mom is 88 and has been told by her Drs to go away, and that she will not see a shot till late this year if at all.

i would post a link to what i have said, but it was on the daily talking heads show at the 6:pm covied 19 story briefing.

in the building she lives in , nobody has been allowed to get a shot. 5 floors 20 room a floor. everyone there is over 70, and some are almost bed bound. those that are such get moved to the other building as that one is a care home. and family of those in there can not go in the building. (shots?).

I have no idea where you are, but someone is feeding either you or your mom incorrect information.   All care homes all over the country are now getting vaccinated by CVS and Walgreens under federal contracts.  Call the local health department and lodge a complaint as well as the state’s  department of Public Health, as well as local media.

are you thinking about Merck stopping it’s development and turning to therapeutics research?

As to the Moderna reactions:

Quote

“Yesterday, we convened the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup and additional allergy and immunology specialists to examine the evidence collected,” Pan said in a statement. “We had further discussions with the county of San Diego Department of Public Health, the FDA, CDC and manufacturer, and found no scientific basis to continue the pause. Providers that paused vaccine administration from Moderna Lot 41L20A can immediately resume.”

We live in Minnesota. Everyone in the care facility part of this complex, including staff, received their second shot yesterday. Everyone in Independent Living (270 apartments) got our first shots two weeks ago. All Moderna. One person reacted negatively. The question about allergies was worded in such a way I was not sure how to answer it even after reading it three times so my suspicion is that one person did not read it carefully enough. The RN who issued my shot assured me my response needed to be yes but it would not restrict my ability to get the injection since my allergic reactions are topical so do not affect breathing.

Linda,

There's a small portion of people that have overactive immune system that will take the needle going into an arm as a 'foreign body' and react accordingly - swelling, overproduction of histamine, fluid filling the body, etc.   Asking helps them to make sure they have appropriate support available should you have a reaction.   Even people with severe reactions that involve breathing can get the vaccination - in some cases they may be give anti-histamine before the injection, and they have epinephrine available in case someone has a severe reaction.   Allergic reactions can be handled, but the chance of death from Covid makes that a reasonable choice to make.

Just curious, do you know what the negative reaction was?   What someone might classify as negative, someone else will just see as a mild inconvenience.  We all have different tolerances to just about everything in our environment.

They just told us there was "an incident" that caused them to shut down the auditorium, where they were doing the injections, for an extended period of time. It appears to have been about half an hour given how far behind they were when we arrived for our appointment. Everything else is just a guess on my part. HIPPA, you know.

  • 2 weeks later...

We got our second Pfizer shots yesterday, 3 weeks after the first.  So far few side effects - sore arms and my wife just felt bad overnight and this morning.

We got our vaccines in Grayson county, Texas, from the county.  Very well organized.  We "live" in Polk county but aside from when I filled out the form online to get on the waiting list no one ever mentioned residence throughout the process

Here's hoping that all who want to be vaccinated will get the opportunity sooner and not later.
