We are on our way south for the winter and riding around Utah for a week or so yet. I have not been to Zion since 1976 so hard to remember the road there . That is from East to west on hwy 9.

So we are looking for a campground to stay at and just take the truck into the park. And has anyone just traveled in there truck to the park.

 Thanks ,.   Vern

Since posting this subject I noticed my jeep at an angle maybe to high. Was not thinking about taking the 5thwheel along. But will need to tape the jeep height.

Now will they believe it is an Rv and not a semi.

Me thinks we will have to get out on I 70 and travel in from the west side.

    Thanks,.   Vern

Sorry my last post wasn't better but here is the web address that goes with the phone number and physical address along with a description of the RV Sites below. I love Zion and Bryce which is a hop, skip and approximately a 4 hour Jump from Zion, but if you are in the area you must see it. This is my backyard since I live in Vegas. Oh you should go up and see Kolob Reservoir and see the California Condors, it is just above Zion National Park at 8500 feet. Feel free to P.M. me.

RV Sites

zion-rv-parking-150x150.jpgFor your comfort, each site has full hook-ups, a shade tree, fire ring (with the exception of 4 sites), picnic table, free Wi-Fi, and cable television. Pull thru sites are 60-70 feet long with a concrete pad and a grassy area perfect for relaxing on your lounge chair. Riverside Back-In sites average 40-50 feet deep, have gravel, and the Virgin River flowing behind them. There is a berm running along the river’s edge for the protection of our young guests; however, you can hear the river running all year. Standard Back-In sites range from 30-40 feet deep, have 30 amp electric, and are available with either a concrete pad & grass or gravel only. These sites are perfect for smaller RVs. Please help us maintain our desert grass by not putting down mats, rugs, or carpets. We will be happy to help you choose just the right site for your preferences and needs. If you will have a vehicle that does not fit on your site, we will reserve a parking space for you. All vehicles that do not fit on the site must be assigned a parking space in advance. Failure to have a pre-assigned parking space could result in your parking your vehicle off property.

Tunnel information.........

If you come into Zion from I - 15 and go through Hurricane and La Verkin off of Highway 9 the tunnel is not an issue. The Tunnel is only an issue if you plan to travel on from Zion to Bryce without going back out to interstate 15. I have not been through the tunnel in a long time, so I do not remember the height, however when I checked into Watchman Campground that is inside of Zion, with my trailer, they asked me if I was wanting to go through the tunnel. If I wanted it I would have to have arranged for an escort. Once again I do not remember the height. If you are going to run over with your jeep to see something like Bryce Canyon ( liked it better than the South Rim of the Grand Canyon) it won't be a problem.

Was this font better LOL.

VTeach - I I-device scrolled your post up and nearly reared back off my chair - it was great to see ... see? .. 😁

wrknrvr - you must see that land, even if it means unloading the Jeep and using it.

We came in from Hurricane and had to drop the 30' TT and pay for the escort, we were never the first in line at any of the tunnels and had to stop at all of them. We then picked up the trailer and drove all the way around to Briyce, probably my favorite south west park.

I couldn't agree more, Bryce is just incredible! It is beautiful beyond belief and the campground up in the mountain is wonderful.

In 2015, on our migration south, we stayed at an RV park between the two parks, in Hatch UT.  HUGE sites & dark skies. Stayed for a month & went between the two parks in the Jeep. (Also visited Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab.) Luckily we had the Jeep because we did have to go through the tunnel into Zion.  You're a braver soul than I -- I can't imagine negotiating around Springdale in the truck, and not sure where you'd park to catch the bus to go up into the canyon...

Ok .  Now for our update

As we got into town where the park entrance is there were no cars parked along the street for designated parking. Good sign that there is not many people there. And the parking lane was really quit a distance.

But signs keep saying all parking lots in the park are full. Use shuttle. Oops now things are not looking so good. But the town is not really fully like when they are busy. So we continue as turning around does not look good.

So I tried to call about an Rv site in there campground with two different numbers and had no luck. Sooooo when we pulled up to the gate the young Lady had here eyes open. So I asked about a campsite. They only do online reservations. Crap now what?..? And they had no sites available.

She said I cannot take that thing through there. Only go ahead and turn around. Sooooo they stoped traffic and watch us turn around.

Vegas teacher did give us a good Rv park to go to. And thanks for that thought.

If you are thing about the Kolob exit. It is closed as they have all the pavement taken up at that exit. So visiting that place for awhile is off the possibilities.

But we like lonely sorta places so we drove east past the entrance to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Past the the Vermillion cliffs at sunset, and boondocked.

So now we will go to little America in Flagstaff get some fuel for our trip north in the spring and have breakfast at the lodge beside the truckstop.

And debate where our next place will be to stop.

It's a shame you weren't able to tour Zion.... and you could have easily boondocked just outside the gate of North Rim Grand Canyon.  It sounds like with your type of rig you're needing to do some research before taking off.

You should have parked the truck in Springdale. The shuttle makes stops in Springdale taking you into Zion so you could have done your touring by using the shuttle and getting on and off at various places.
