  1. This KW guy looked over (actually under) my friend’s new pride and joy used Class A (since sold) - never saw so many odd ball bits and pieces arranged in the form of air brakes, suspensions, steering... It looked like lots of stuff was made of unobtainium.
  2. Why does Tesla call their truck a “semi”? Semi what? Trailer? No, it connects to a semi trailer, it isn’t one... Sane? No, that’s taken 😁 Semi automatic? Semi ....what?
  3. 🤣🤣 almost had a coffee splutter incident 🤣🤣🤣
  4. My base camper is a 30ft Alberta made Roughneck travel trailer intended for full timing. It is a non slide high density foam insulated dual pane window trailer that does not leak air. Tanks and connections are inside the heated envelope. It weighs 9000lbs dry and empty. At -35c a cylinder does not have a big enough “puddle” of liquid to provide enough vapour flow for the two 40,000btu furnaces and water heater firing at the same time. The cylinder would supply down to about -25c. A 80gal “pig” cylinder works. A horizontal style tank like a motorhome has would also maintain vapour supply. It uses about 5USgal per day in those conditions. Throwing an old blanket over the small cylinders and placing a small electric heater directed on the cylinder warmed it enough to flow. I do not trust electric heaters close to flammable material like a blanket. There are charts available on line that show what temperature each size of propane tanks can maintain what btu vapour flow. The propane does not “freeze up” it just stops boiling. One nice sun shining day north east of Ft. McMurray we had a company reporter visit from Houston working on an article for the company magazine. It was -52c at 9:00 a.m. I poured liquid propane into a bucket so she could say she carried propane in an open bucket. It wasn’t “frozen.” Anyone know what color it is?
  5. Hi palmeris F450 air ride thread from RV.net truck campers forum. I had poor life and service from a set of Rancho 9000 2 leaking before 12K miles. Warranty was not worth the fight so I installed Bilsteins. I contacted them for the correct model / part number for my application- truck camper on won ton.
  6. Ha! You missed Addendum 6 part 2 in which all warranty is void because you bought breakfast downtown and said verbal histories AND drove your good lookin rig past me in Parker when I was on my bike at a side intersection and only Newt saw me and waved.
  7. Hi rollin - I’ve done a fair bit of towing of different stuff - RV TT and 5th wheel, flatbeds, bales, equipment on transport wheels, on up to class 8 “semis”. In general what makes a F150 (or “1/2 ton”) class vehicle less suitable for towing at max brochure rating is what makes them nice to drive around- they are not stiff enough, and final axle ratios are too “high” so they don’t feel as comfortable with the load. This applies all the way up the truck food chain. Ask the dealer if you can bring you trailer and do a demo towing with the 150, then with a gas 250 over the same route...
  8. Howdy Dave - parts from Peterbilt and KW dealers have a Paccar Parts warranty that would be valid at seventy eleventeen Pete and KW dealers across the USA and Canada, should it be needed in your travels. Not like that guy that tried fixing your window controls ... Having a nice warranty and easy access to the warranty of course ensures you will never need it😀.
  9. Scrap- the dimension units on a KW frame layout drawing is our secret shhhhhh ... mm ‘s the word...
  10. Whenitworks: Of the 5 or 7 hundred KW’s I had a part in laying out for about 20 or 50 vocations the builds always began with tape measure, pen, paper, applicable weight and dimension regulations. Initial concepts were sketched by hand. Next step was spec’ing software spreadsheets, collaboration with the fab shop engineer and KW engineers. But step 1 was get out the tape measure and the weight and dimensions regs and sketch pad to see what fits. Then work with KW factory engineering and equipment factory engineering to ensure the concept will stay within the correct vehicle dynamics, weight distribution and braking compliance requirements. If a truck from stock was being considered for sure physical “tape measure engineering” and base line weight distribution came first. Of course specing software, spreadsheets, and CAD were brought in as the work progressed. Building a truck mounted service unit with pumps, drawworks, and a 70ft mast on a twin steer tri drive worth $1million started with a tape measure... The owners goal was a unit that could be easily configured to meet spring thaw reduced axle loading law and not have to be hauled to well sites. Truck 1 was ordered with frame drilling pre-done by KW. 7 months later on completion we had missed our initial calculated weight distribution by 180lbs heavy on the front and 400lbs light on the rear. 2 more units were built We didn’t sit in meetings arguing about spreadsheets vs CAD vs what someone said “should work.” 🤣 All of the above were used. Just to see If tape measures still worked I just set up a bed on a truck mounting to some existing frame holes. Measure twice drill once and the bolts went in with fingers. Anyway long story short you have to start with weight and dimensions regs vs what you want, ( I.e. will it fit?), consider dynamics and braking, (often kind of brushed over in RV world) then go to the details...
  11. Glenn the valve on your hitch might be haywire... I add weight to the landing gear until I see them taking a bit of weight. Then I hop into my Big KW release the brakes and dump the suspension as I skillfully pull forward gently , intending to show the audience that invariably gathers what a Sooper Trucker I am. This is the part where: a. I find out I forgot to release the 5th wheel jaws b. I forgot to put the truck in gear and am trying to hang the tractor on the king pin c. All of the above.
  12. I deleted my blah blah blah.
  13. 1. Head off to somewhere / something you “love”, not “hate”. Recognize a RV is an appliance, not the Center of Your Existence. 2. Travel slowly. 3. Everything improves when you go outdoors. 4. Repeat ^ .
  14. From Daryl’s linked article: ”... The American Trucking Associations has said that the US has a shortage of 50,000 truck drivers and that the industry will need to recruit and train 898,000 new truckers by 2026. Trucking companies ranked the driver shortage as their top industry issue in 2017 and 2018. Meanwhile, salaries for truck drivers are falling. A Business Insider analysis found that median wages had decreased by 21% on average since 1980, while in some areas they have fallen by as much as 50%. ... so, like, is a solution.... na, never mind....

    Tires

We run Sailun’s on a farm flatbed lots of grabbel roads. Never loaded heavy because of the door stickers on the tow mobiles😉
  22. Anyone who has seen any of my rigs can attest I don’t give a hoot what anyone thinks about what they “look like”.... But you can keep thousand$ of travel buck$ in the bank by shopping for a well cared for higher end mfg unit from The Time Before Mortgage Derivatives and Mergers... If you need a toilet no one has sat on before install a new one in it. If you require latest gadgets and gizmos and all the things installed on sawdust and glue walls can’t help there... 😊

    Tires

I’ve had great service from Bridgestone R250’s 16” rim size. Nice rugged tire vs ST balloon sidewalls searching for a rock to slash themselves on in the boondocks...
  24. For vapour draw systems there are charts which show how large the tank needs to be for the “puddle” of liquid to supply vapour fast enough to supply the engine or appliance at various temperatures. A horizontal frame tank can supply more than a 12” diameter cylinder.
