When we were in Houston for 3 months for my cancer treatment at MD Anderson, we stayed at Lakeview RV Resort on the near south side. Expensive as are most around Houston for monthly rates, round $800 and up. But it has most every thing you might want. Depending on when you want to stay, it can be quite hard to find a spot, especially during the Livestock Show (Rodeo) and BBQ cook off, both of which are coming up shortly I believe. They usually are close to full due to the quick access to the Houston Medical Center.

Like most large cities, it really depends on what part of the city you need daily access to. I mean from Baytown on the east side to Katy on the west side is 60 very congested, grinding miles. Same thing from Conroe on the north to Galveston on the south. And, the "Houston area" extends beyond these examples.

We stayed at Lakeview for many years as it is close to our daughter. We have given up even trying to get a spot there. They are full all the time. Last year when we called they had a 120 people on their waiting list. If you need the medical center and what to be close I would try South Main. An older park, a bit noisy as it is next to I610 but very close to the medical center.

The owners of Lakeview have opend 3-4 new campgrounds in the Houston area. I saw them on their site but wasn't interested in their location. I think they just opened up last year so you might want to look at the site.

Exactly my thought too. If they are coming to be close to family out at Katy they sure don't want to stay in Galveston, etc.

We've stayed at Green Caye in Dickinson several times. It is just a place to be with no campground activities, etc. Mostly residential. But it is clean and convenient to family.

We have been coming to Houston since 2008. The cost increase for park rent is staggering we paid $350 including electric in 2008. This year we called 3 months in advance to make a reservation at our favorite park we have stayed at for years and were told we more than like won't get in even on the "wait list". We made a second choice just in case. The rate at the second choice park is $750 and it is mostly a sleeping place for those working the oil fields.

Coleen,

We had been coming to Houston since 2000 and starting about 4 years ago it was harder and harder to get into Lakeview. Switched to Advanced, love it, they don't believe in a wait list and they are expanding their campground. We were there in late Oct for 10 days and spots were available. Try Advanced if it meets your location requirements, very nice park.......

We stayed at Corral RV park last year and it is also expensive when you figured in the electric cost. They add on $130 for the upfront electric cost and when we left at the end of the month, I showed them the meter reading which ended up being $50 for our total electric usage, (we were gone one week for a cruise). Corral would not refund any electric funds and admitted they would have charged additional $ to my credit card had I gone over. So in essence they charge $130 extra over their $650 monthly rate.

Try Spring Creek Park which is a Tomball city owned park that is free for 7 days. They have FHU and 7 sites with concrete pads. You do have to make reservations (281-353-4196) but it is the nicest free park we have ever stayed at to date. I believe it is one week in then four weeks out.

Greg, I did a search on the forum and came across some one posting about that CG. The thread was 2 years old and locked so I could not bump it. I do not need to be the heart of Houston. The CG could be even in Galviston. Just looking for a nice spot to land and enjoy the area with shopping close by.

Thanks for the feedback and keep it coming.

If you are going to be on the west side of Houston, we enjoyed Stephen F. Austin State Park. Lovely, but check it out because the Brazos River had closed it at one time due to flooding. If we need to be closer to our daughter who lives out 290, we usually stay at Trader's Village. It is what it is...close to family, close to shopping and restaurants. Large pull-throughs, but your neighbors are close. One I would not recommend is Allstar RV Resort right off Beltway 8 and I 10. It was nice enough, but way too tight. It took us 4-5 tries to get into the pull-through site. You could almost touch your next door neighbor, and I thought we were going to have to ask the people on our left to move the auto so we could pull out. We were in a 40 ft. MH with a Jeep toad.

Check out Conroe and around Lake Conroe. There is a KOA near WallyWorld and other shopping and mucho Tex-Mex food. There are also some resort parks including a C2C . Also I have heard that there is a park in Willis which is not too far. It has been a while since we stayed there, I cannot provide the current prices. Conroe is a good hour to downtown (or more) depending on traffic. I really don't like I45 into town so I use some old roads from my childhood (if I can remember them).
