  1. If you are still shopping I would suggest you look at a Kenworth 660 or 880 with the X 15 cummins and Allison. Its like driving a pickup. I cannot describe how much I love mine. I have driven an auto shift and this Allison blows them away. No comparison.
  2. This is what I did. I got a 3 ring binder with the clear plastic sleeves. Page 1 has registration for the truck and insurance card. Page 2 has trailer registration and its insurance card. Page 3 has a copy of the state rules from my local DMV. Page 4 is where I keep my maintenance records. Mileage for oil changes, filter numbers and the like. Page 5 is my extend warranty information for the trailer.
  3. Do not remove the AC back there. Your kids will cook in the summer and freeze in the winter. You dont really need air ride back there. You have the cab shocks. The bunk rides way better than the front seats. I too the front seats out of a couple early 2000s Chevy trucks with built in seat belts. They still slide back and forth and recline. Slid all they way ahead there is a ton of room behind them. You can fit 3 across there. I did have to raise them up a little bit to make them comfortable for adults. I paid $50 apiece for the seats. This pic is not the finished product but a test fit.

    Ohio insurance

I know I'm not in Ohio but have you tried state farm? That's who I have. They consider it a personal passenger vehicle. $70 bucks a month for full coverage.
  5. We use Monroe here on the farm. The are reasonable priced. I have been wanting to try these fox shocks but they are so dang expensive. https://www.raneystruckparts.com/fox-shocks-premium-kenworth-shocks-b71-1001-65159-85070/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwutaCBhDfARIsAJHWnHvEed-v92w-BbDHccMFHmhl7wNQM5hAltaQtc5JELIzyfjQloLONzQaAjGEEALw_wcB

    Brake Job

I got that one and the Milwaukee 3/4 drive. I am kind of impressed the 1/2 does the job. I have had some lug nuts that the 3/4 struggles with. I think I over heated it the other day. Socket was so hot I couldn't touch it. But then this was an old trailer. I think Moses was still alive the last time the wheels were off. Pretty rusty.
  7. Stopped by the shop of check on the status of my truck. I seen it was parked back outside. The guy I go to has a trucking company. His shop guy works on other peoples trucks in between keeping the company trucks on the road. Well 2 of his trucks went down this week so they had to push mine off. I told him thats fine you get your stuff on the road first. I have time. At least I'm not the only one having problems.
  8. The first thing I would do make sure the sensor is clean. You might have wheel seal out and covered it with oil.
  9. Been pretty quiet in here lately. I thought I would share what I have been up to recently. I had to have a head gasket done on the truck a few weeks ago. While it was in the shop I had them check out the rear end. It had a weird vibration under acceleration. Turns out when the truck was singled they just lengthened the drive shaft and hooked it up to the rear rear end. I found that the rear knuckle was at 15 degrees. So found the saddles for the front rear and put them on the rear rear. I did not bother measuring the new angle. You can see that it is pretty straight in. OH yea it needed injectors and rear wheel seals and brakes also. When it got done we loaded up the kids and took a shake down trip to Wichita KS. The engine ran great. No leaks that I could find. However now there is a new vibration. Only when coasting down the back side of a hill. Tail shaft bearing went out in the transmission. The tranny was worn out anyway and I prepared myself for having to replace it but I hoped it would last another couple years. So It is back in the shop. I found a low mile used 10 speed to go back in. After a few years of ownership i have finally come up with a name for our truck. This had much been deliberated over the years. But this time Jen and I are in 100% agreement.
  10. I guess technically my statement above is not true. In Nebraska It says "Mobile Home" right on the license plate.
  11. I pondered shorting the truck to get a longer trailer but with 2 boys that will soon be teenagers I foresee a pair of 4wheelers on the deck in near future.
  12. I am the only HDTer I know that is legal at 64 ft.
  13. A lot of folks like me choose to do nothing. It's obvious they are not commerical.
  14. This is the same route we are taking. There is a geyser in Soda Springs ID I want to see. Its probably nothing but whatever, I want to see it.
  15. Leaving eastern Nebraska on June 10th. Meeting up with 2 other trucks in Sidney Nebraska on Friday the 11th.
  16. If you are not going to work on it for a little while you should start spraying all the nuts with some good penetrating fluid. PB blaster works really well.
  17. Jen and I will not be going on the wine tour this year. We had a ball last time but Mother in law is staying home so we dont have anyone to watch the kids. I am looking forward to the shooting rage.
  18. When I was shopping I talked to several mechanic friends. They all said stay away from 2 peddle autoshift. 3 peddle autoshift is pretty ok but not recommended for my farm work. I personally prefer an Allison. We have 4 trucks with Allison on the farm. I love them. 3 are Cummins/Allison combos and one Mercedes. Unfortunately I have a 10 speed manual in my HDT. I chased down several trucks with Allison transmissions but they were gone before the ink was dry on the ad.
  19. I thought you were going to leave it naked and shiny. But the white paint really ties everything together.
  20. I dont expect a kid living in a dorm to be much prepared. Its up to the school to take care of the kids. Sounds like they failed miserably. What gets me is how unprepared the general population is. I have a cousin down there. Always showing off her huge house and pool and all their stuff. Well she dont have any food in it. No water. No generator. Now she crying and complaining all over Facebook how bad it is. I mean her husband did a 20 year stint in the Air Force. He should have known better. I do feel for the people that have oxygen and whatever else that needs power. Their lives depend on it. However if my life depended on a little machine plugged into the wall I would darn sure have a back up plan.
  21. If you are even remotely skilled with a wrench you can do it yourself. Replacing the entire exhaust is a piece of cake. Replacing part of the exhaust can be difficult as everything is rusted together. Just get parts from the dealer. Then you know you all the right stuff.
  22. Almost every truck dealer is going to have seats on hand. You can actually sit in them before you buy.
