  1. Just pull the inside duals off and run single skinny tires. That's what I would do if I had a tandem. I have actually thought about that with my single axle. If I ever ruin a drive tire I will be running single skinny.
  2. Wow that's crazy. I hope they are ok. Can't help but wonder what they hit.
  3. I like the wood beds. I think they have character. They will require more maintenance but thats OK. If I hadn't found the bed I did for free mine would be wood. We just so happened to have a carpenter employed at the farm at that time I buit the truck so not problem. We had long conversations over many Bud Lights as to the pros and cons of revamping the steel bed over building the wood deck. What made my my mind up was the steel bed was free and I already had it as well as the maintenance the wood deck will need.
  4. I might end up doing something like this. But larger. I have gobs of room under my bed between the frame rails. I wanted a larger tank so I dont have to mess with gas cans. I have a 50 gallon tank now. It last me all summer. My bed is kind of cheesy homemade thing my Dad found in a salvage yard so I dont mind cutting up the floor a little bit to experiment.
  5. Yea the more I think about it I may have to come up with a different solution. I will save this tank for when I get a diesel powered generator.
  6. Since i have the generator unhooked and out Its a good time to move the generator box ahead and add another fuel tank. Right now the tank for the generator is on the bed. It works out pretty good but as the boys get older I am going to need the bed space for toys. If I lose the fuel tank I believe I can get two 4 wheelers up there pretty easily. This is the box I want to slide ahead. I found an aluminum side mount fuel tank that will fit behind the box in front of the rear tires. My dilemma is the tag on the tank says diesel fuel only. My generator is gas powered. I am going to assume that means it is not safe to put gas in it. OR is that there because the vehicle it came off of ran on diesel? I have seen plenty of gas burner trucks with aluminum saddle tanks just like this.
  7. Used my truck this weekend for the first time since we got home from the West coast rally. Short weekend trip.
  8. I run my generator. I tell them upfront when we make reservations. They will usually put the noise makers all together in one group if there is room.
  9. I haven't had any problems with HH. IT says in the description how long a rig they can accommodate. 99% of the time you can find them on google maps and check it out.
  10. Been there done that. Thats what I call a "Learning experience" LOL
  11. You will be much happier with that.
  12. What do the steer tries look like? This sounds like something I would make them fix before I write the check.
  13. Just got home from the West coast rally. I have another oil leak somewhere. Its not a bad one just enough to be irritating. I suppose I will crawl under the truck tomorrow and see what I can see. Could still be reside from the previous leak but I doubt it. On the up side the batteries I got from Mr Cob at the rally and the Inverter I bought from.....I forgot his name, worked great. Thanks again you guys and especially Chad for helping me hook it all up. Cant forget Wandering Dave. If you are in here thank you for your help also. Couldn't ask for a better neighbor!
  14. Are both of your tanks the same size? My work truck is a 2021 Kw. I see an uneven draw also. But, my drivers side tank is 150 gallon. The passenger side is only 75. My gauges show the drivers side is always lower than the passenger.
  15. We just got home. Had a great time.
  16. One hiccup on the way to the West coast rally. Hole rubbed in my dipstick tube splattered oil everywhere. Temporary fix is some foam rubber hose clamped over the hole.
  17. Not my truck this time but the trailer. My fridge quit working a few days before we are set to leave for the west coast rally. Over the phone diagnosis with the tech is that the cooling unit failed. So what to do? I have an old dorm fridge laying around so I got the tape measure out. It fits perfectly in the hole where the washer/dryer is suppose to go. The shop is backed up for 3 weeks. So if we get parts ordered and make an appointment we can get it in right about the time we get back.
  18. There was a change in our plans. We will be running solo this trip. Leaving northeastern Nebraska Thursday. Heading across I 80 to Little America WY. From there tanking Hy 30 to I 15 then to I 84 in ID. We are staying at various Harvest host along the way. Set to arrive at Caldwell Monday morning.
  19. Everything back together and test drove. Everything seems to be good. On to the next thing. Got the spare generator in the box. Its a little louder in there than it is out of the box. I will have the door open when its running. Should be plenty of ventilation. I have to get a 30 amp plug so I can run off the breaker box on the bed and plumb in the fuel line so I dont have to worry about gas cans.
  20. Thanks for the link I am going to save that for future reference.
  21. Well I ran across a guy a Facebook with a factory single. He said he was 2 1/2 inches of clearance. That just happens to be the same as the front axle on the tandem I measured. So that is what we are going to shoot for. Jen got the drive shaft in to the machine shop yesterday and got new splines welded in. He said they looked good but I know I could wobble the drive shaft around so we did it any way. One of the U joints was a little stiff so replacing that also.
  22. I changed out all the coolant lines because they were pretty rusty. Other than that I really should have a spare belt and idler/tensoner pulley just in case.
  23. That reamer works very well. But dont use it in a Milwaukee drill. It will shut down on you as soon as you work it too hard. Use a old Dewalt. That baby will be smoking and still running.
  24. Got the driveshaft pulled out. There is some play in the splines. They were pretty dry. I greased the crap out of it but still had a vibration on the back side of the hills. Abut where the cruise would kick off and the truck would coast. The guy I have helping me on this project noticed that my ride height looked too high. I dont have a picture so I will explain as well as I can. I am referring to the blocks on the axle and the block on the frame where it rests when you dump your air. When the bags are fully inflated he said there should be 2 1/2 inch gap. I have about a 4 inch gap. I called freightliner but they couldn't help me because Its been singled and all the info they have on my vin is for a tandem truck. If anyone reading this has a single axle would you please measure your gap for me and let me know where you sit. I dont think it matters if its a Volvo, freightliner or KW or whatever. All these trucks are essentially the same from the frame down.
  25. That is how mine is wired up. Plug and play. I would have paid extra to have ordered it this way.
