  1. Dave, I know you're looking to get me banging my drum again, so here goes. Mount the winch on the car, not the truck. It will give a lot more flexibility, for the same price. That is all.
  2. Best answer, yet. ETA: Your pin weight is likely close to 3500 lbs, you won't teeter totter the trailer loading a motorcycle. It may wiggle a bit, so if it makes you feel better, drop the stabilizers.
  3. We live all summer on 30 amp hookups. The position sounds lovely, based on the limited knowledge we have of California summers. We agree with the above posters, and will simplify things further; you'll be able to run any 2 items at the same time. This is said with the understanding that you won't run them all day long. The coffee pot and the frying pan can get along. The microwave and small heater, too. Just don't get crazy with the loads.
  4. Get a ladder and a rope. Slide the AC unit up the ladder with 1 person following it on the ladder, and 1 on the roof doing most of the work. Save the rental money.
  5. With a big enough propane tank, why not? If you run the whole trailer off a large, horizontal tank, you should be able to keep enough vapour pressure to run everything. Don't forget that at -44 farenheit, you won't get any vapour, so look at insulating and heating the tank. ETA: Not my cup of tea, but have at it.
  6. When in doubt, look at the surroundings. A truck stop will have mostly higher tax pumps, a suburban convenience store will have mostly (if not only) lower tax fuel. The lower tax pumps will also have the sticker from the tax department, stating what vehicles are allowed to use that pump.
  7. Sorry, Vern. Brain moment. On DesertMiner's link, there's a tab to current suppliers. It should give a downloadable document listing all legal suppliers.
  8. Only if one doesn't follow the rules, plainly posted on the fuel pump.
  9. Vern, you're running 2 axles, so you can buy fuel anywhere. 3 axle vehicles have to look for pumps with the extra tax added. Off the top of my head, I don't remember the specific wording of the signs indicating that the station has fuel with the extra tax, but you'll know them when you see them.
  10. Tow pin; wrecking yard or dealer. Get some chains, learn how to put them on when you can't move. Use sand, kitty litter, fireplace ash, anything that can increase the traction. Adapt, improvise, overcome.
  11. That 3M tape is where it's at. I zoned on that flavour of putty tape, but you won't regret using it.
  12. Something to remember about the ratings: The higher the rating, the better stability the ladder will have. A lower rating may support the load, but it will flex more, and be more prone walking.

    Nice Tool

Washer, nut, and bolt. $90 saved.
  14. Our fridge would gradually warm up when running on MSW inverter. Initially cold, but slowly warming. Runs fine on Pure Sine Wave power. Take it for what it's worth.
  15. Don't use a regular AC extension cord. Use the right equipment.
  16. Good analysis here. Blames too much hype, without a solid plan in place.
  17. Here's some stats from North of the border. The findings pretty much jibe with my "On the Ground" observations. Too much hype, not enough bud.
  18. I always figured you were posting from work, and had to get your phone back in your pocket before the boss caught you. Don't bother telling me that isn't allowed, I know it happens. Maybe not you, but it happens.
  19. I'll see your hour and a half, and raise you most of the day. Replaced the wheels on the diamond harrow drawbar. Most of the day, either humped over a wheel hub or wrestling on the bench. The vise holding a tire iron is a good tip, but I think I had everything in the vise at 1 point or another. Straight dish soap for lube was put into play too. It cleans up your hands nicely.
  20. It helps to refresh your list of curse words. If you know any in another language, they'll definitely speed things up. Use motorcycle tire irons, or something smooth like them. Nothing worse than airing up a new tube and finding a bigger hole than the one you're replacing. Don't ask how that feels.
  21. Gotcha. I knew you had a brake hang awhile back, but wasn't sure where that was at. It's a typical thing, depending on road conditions before parking, relative humidity while parked, and equipment conditions. Wheel seals passing can also cause the brakes to hang. Good luck.
