SuiteSuccess Posted November 16, 2016 Report Posted November 16, 2016 I lost my notes from the superb lecture by the instructer from Salina on the air brake system. Does anyone have a video or notes from that lecture? I'm specifically interested in something he said about air venting after the engine was shut off or something to that effect. I'm not talking about venting caused by pulling your park brake on. 2006 Volvo 780 "Hoss" Volvo D12, 465hp, 1650 ft/lbs tq., ultrashift Bed Build by "JW Morgan's Custom Welding" 2017 DRV 39DBRS3 2013 Smart Passion Coupe "Itty Bitty" "Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. SuiteSuccess Posted November 16, 2016 Author Report Posted November 16, 2016 Ok, I thought he was talking about something with the air dryer or compressor. The venting I was trying to look up was abnormal and maybe represented used up air dryer filter? 2006 Volvo 780 "Hoss" Volvo D12, 465hp, 1650 ft/lbs tq., ultrashift Bed Build by "JW Morgan's Custom Welding" 2017 DRV 39DBRS3 2013 Smart Passion Coupe "Itty Bitty" "Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. Scrap Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 Was he talking about the Wabco Twin dryer? It'll exhaust purge air from the dryer head being regenerated at all times - even engine off. It's been the bain of many truck inspections for many years. DEF purge air on Freightliners at shut off is another good one. Can't think of much more on the top of my head but I'm sure there is.

I'mdonewiththis forum Posted November 20, 2016 Report Posted November 20, 2016 Carl, are you talking about air from the dryer or was it when he said something about the exhaust of air when the parking brake was set and you stepped on the brake pedal?

SuiteSuccess Posted November 20, 2016 Author Report Posted November 20, 2016 Ok will close this thread. Went to trailer and couldn't find my notes. I'mdonewiththis forum Posted November 20, 2016 Report Posted November 20, 2016 The only thing I remember about the exhausting of air was if you push on the brake pedal with the yellow button out which he said was normal.

SuiteSuccess Posted November 21, 2016 Author Report Posted November 21, 2016 I just recalled. He was referring to a stuck or improperly functioning purge valve I believe. dan412 Posted November 21, 2016 Report Posted November 21, 2016 I just recalled. He was referring to a stuck or improperly functioning purge valve I believe. Air would continue to exhaust even after engine shutdown. We had that happen at Ambassador RV park Caldwell Idaho the way home from the Hutch on Sunday. So Scrap do these "Engineered-Solutions" to "Perceived-Problems" mask the "Original-Problem" by "Creating-NEW-Problems" that it makes one forget how small the "Original-Precieved-Problem...was...or...was not"? Scrap Posted November 29, 2016 Report Posted November 29, 2016 Like it or hate it, it was the only way to get above 40% compressor duty cycle in the 90s all the way till 06. Nothing else had been invented yet (that wasn't the size of a city bus) so you kind of had to learn to live with it - which is why I thought it might have been brought up by the instructor. Somewhere out there in internet land is a TSB for it that you put in your notebook that tells your truck inspector that it is normal and not an air leak.
