Well, with TB12 back on the field, we had a great outing today.

We are bugging out of MA on Tuesday and beelining for El Paso where we will try to convince my mother in law that its time to give up the house. HA, good luck to us.

Then its straight home!

GO PATS!!!!

Good luck in that! However, Terry's mom did that last year. We weren't sure how that would work. However, she's in a very nice retirement home, has a super apartment and three great meals a day. There's also lots of entertainment for the residents. It took a while but she's happy she made the move now. It's not an assisted living place but there are some who have a little extra help when they need it.

We're outta here in about 9 days.

If you can talk about what she is going to instead of what she's leaving behind it helps. Fun activities where she doesn't have to drive is an incentive for some.

We wish you luck. We went through that last year with Diane's mom. It took a long series of events before she finally gave in.

Sue in spring 2008 my Brother and I had to go down to the RGV to get Dad. When we got back to my house in Denver we told Dad he wasn't going his home but to an assisted living house. We waited until then because we weren't sure how he'd take it. He was relieved. Someone would be there to help him with things. Best of luck.

Travel safe everyone.

Thanks all,

Conversations have been going on for quite a while. She has 'the place' picked out- 3 meals a day, her own apartment, housekeeping etc, tons of activities and 3 of her best friends already live there but her last comment was "I AM NOT READY TO MOVE" yep, in all Caps.

Baby steps we say. As long as she will let us help her cull through her stuff and keep the process alive, we will be satisfied i think- for now.

We didn't sell his mom's place for 6 months. That way if she decided to go back home, it was still there for her. We looked at it like a vacation home.

We are also willing to go that route- convince her to move for the winter, keep the house for now. That way she can take her time getting rid of what she doesn't want. She keeps thinking she needs to empty the house before she moves, can't quite grasp the idea of doing it the other way around so we are still working on that.

My father has terminal lung cancer. He fell several times last week because he is not eating. He insists that the water he needs is in his beer. The last fall he was stuck on the floor for 2 hours before he could get up. My brother put him in hospital and we all agreed, except for Dad, that he should go in Assisted Living. The hospital wants to fix him up, talk to him about eating tv dinners and then send him back home. We all say, what's the point.

So sorry to hear about your Dad. Is it possible to have a nurse (or some type of home health care aide) check in on him at his home?

Toni,

While I'm sorry to hear about your Dad I understand his viewpoint. He's dying. Why not let him do that his way? It can be hard to let go but aren't you going to have to do that anyway?

He absolutely refuses. No one in his home. Good ideas though. Tell him to take a trial run in assisted living.

We left the coast Monday and moved to Grants Pass. It was foggy, drizzle and light rain on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday were nice and some sun but today we are back to rain again. The rain is suppose to last through Monday. Also the weather people say it could be very windy today and Saturday. Tomorrow (Friday) we are going toward Sacramento but it may rain there through the weekend. Trying to escape the rain. The weather has altered our plans quite a bit lately. Love the chalk but the rain keeps washing our plans away. Eventually we'll make it to So Cal and Arizona.

We're pulling out of Sun City, AZ this a.m. and heading about 25 miles to Massey Diesel for the Beaver's "annual check up". Hopefully, it will all go well with no big surprises. Some of you know all too well our past experiences with service centers. I get the heebie jeebies just driving by 'em!

Yup, they say a good storm stretch is headed your way. It's normally not as wet in southern Oregon but when it decides to be wet,,,, well LOL!! To bad the weather wasn't on your side, there is some very pretty stuff in that area. The drive down the canyon along the river is a particularly great section for example. I think I know where you are camped, just turn right when you leave the campground and follow your nose.

Having no skin in the game, (Patriots fan) it doesn't look wonderful for the Broncos, but its early in the season....

When was the last time the Chargers went to the playoffs??!

Nasty rain and high winds predicted for the PNW on Saturday. However, that bad weather won't get us since we'll still be in Florida. Instead the bugs are getting us. Tonight we were reminded of one of the reasons we didn't like Florida. It's the mosquitos. The wedding rehearsal dinner was held outside. I left with a cool dozen mosquito bites. The wedding is Saturday and we're lathering up with bug spray before we go.

Sure seemed "funny" in the second half when the Broncos would have a good play there would be a penalty. Fishy. LOL.

Been raining all day, not sure if we'll move tomorrow. May sit tight and let the storm pass.

Jeri did you forget your bug spray? A necessity in Florida for sure. Glad alot of people like Florida or the desert would be too crowded.

In scenic Bakersfield for the next week maybe longer. There is still a sun. Haven't done that much driving in a long time. Grants Pass to Bakersfield. I just might put the electric heater a way. LOL!

620 miles? Crikey, you did need a sun fix! Don't breathe the air there in B town...it'll curl your toenails...LOL! Nice and toasty here in AZ, but it's a "dry heat". Nuthin' like they get in Summer, I hear.

We got here yesterday and Dave & Diane showed up today...great to be with the them again and look forward to seeing the rest of you guys soon!

A must-see in Bakersfield. The California Fruit and Nut Company is behind the Orange Grove RV park. Tons of samples. I could have stayed all day.
