  1. This old thread will give newer members Mac's background and a window into his experience. https://escapees.com/escaping-an-rv-fire/
  2. I have most of his videos bookmarked. I wonder if they will now disappear? Is there a practical way to download them? I do have a short video of Mac instructing my wife how to properly use one of his hand extinguishers.
  3. Best of both preferences, do both.

I'll handle them like I do ground wasps, after dark pour a cup of gasoline on the nest. No need to light the vapor, it kills them anyway.
  5. I think I mentioned I installed Lunux Cinnamon, dual-boot with W10. Well, I wasn't happy with the way Linux Cinnamon works, so I have now switched to Ubuntu Desktop 22.04.The more I use it the better I like its design. It is more like a Windows OS, thus easier to understand and work with for this old man. The introduction is the same, you can download it and try it without installing first. BTW, that first screenshot picture is of Ubuntu Desktop welcome screen as downloaded, with the jellyfish on an orange background.
  6. Eternabond was bought by H.B. Fuller and their video library is different now. When properly prepared and instructions for laying-down Eternabond tape are followed exactly, it will has as long as the roof.
  7. Nearly all MH's have the OEM rear camera near the roofline. I've never seen one from the factory lower than that. The main reason is so the camera can be aimed to have the towbar and hitch in constant view, they are not primarily for replacing a rear-view mirror.
  8. If I remember the story; that's what caused a man on irv2.com to have to rebuild his 560HP(?) ISX (I think the MH was around 2004 or later) in his MH 2X. The first time was something about the EGR plugging up and causing #6 cylinder to drop a valve, which resulted in a $30,000 rebuild, of which Cummins paid $10,000. The second time was due to a defective -something, another $30,000, Cummins paid $0. The ISX is much discussed on trucking forums.

I just ran a search for Rasberry Crazy Ants. Some websites say they came from S. America, some say Africa, another says the Caribbean. I wonder if anyone actually knows? BTW, the high here in S. Indiana was 79°F today and it's supposed to last all week, then the weekend will be in the mid-90's, with humidity in the 80's. Let's see_ Isn't the last NASCAR race this coming weekend; it'll be too hot to work outside I'm sure. DW just bought me a brand-new leather recliner with all the options; just in time.
  10. I read this book once every year. In the Gravest Extreme, by Massad Ayoob.
  11. The local scrap yards weigh anything on wheels in the next county over. They don't charge me since I sell scrap metal there. One yard can only weigh axles due to configuration; the other is wide open and allows individual wheel weighs.
  12. I left the Xantrex cables off the new (Apr 2023) Renogy batteries for 36 hrs. This fault issue began in 5 April 2022, but due to body damage the MH hasn't been used since then. The 3 house batteries failed last year and I replaced them Apr 2023. This is the Victron inverter I'm considering buying from a business in NJ: https://store.tekrispower.com/victronmultiplu/123000120-50 It has a 5 yr warranty. Even though it is a 3,000W, where Xantrex is 2,000W I don't think I'll need to replace any wiring/cables to install the Victron, but it will be quite different wiring arrangement. Thankfully I have the space (22"x15"x20") to install nearly any inverter I want. The Xantrex 2012 inverter (2 yr warranty) is obsolete per the Xantrex website, but still sold on Amazon and some boating store websites. I'd buy a Hart inverter in a minute if they were still made. IMO they were the Cadillac of inverters. I'll make my decision which to buy NLT Monday, based on your advice and my research.
  13. The hard-reset failed. It's weird, I plug into 120VAC, the fault light on the face of the inverter comes on and the remote also says fault, but there is nothing else; no fault codes, nothing under "clear faults". Tomorrow I call Xantrex in Elkhart IN tech support. It that fails to get it working I'm looking at a new Victron multiplus 3000W instead of a new Xantrex, their model 2012 is listed as obsolete yet they are widely available. Is this Victron currently supported and is it a quality unit?
  14. I had Macrium Reflect free (now eliminated) to make backups each day and clone my HD once a week. The files are in an unrecognizable format to any other program. I had a HD crash, installed a new SSD and without Macrium I was dead in the water, so downloaded it again and recovered my files before the trial ended. Now I use Windows to do backups. If anyone is running Windows, there is a link under settings/ updates and security/ backups. My backup drive is a 1TB Seagate external HD. If I have a W10 crash I simply download a fresh copy from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 It gives me the option of retaining my files, pictures, and installed programs, or beginning anew. No need for cloning my HD now. I have that installation on a USB stick; Microsoft remembers my computer and verification number, none needed during installation.
  15. This will give you an over-view of LP tank placement for permanent structures. If your RV is supported by concrete blocks, it can be considered a permanent structure. https://www.squibbtaylor.com/uploaded/lp10servicemaninst.pdf Page 11 shows the tank must be 10' from the structure; local laws/ordinances may preempt that rule. Even if what you propose is legal, would your genset get the minimum of 23.8 cubit meters of air per cubic foot of LP vapor? I also agree with all previous replies.
  16. There is a difference between obtaining maximum life from LA batteries and the percentage of draw-down one can use. The maximum life from LA batteries is obtained if you never draw them down below 50%. However that is not an absolute limit if longevity is not a goal, depleting them to 20% just shortens the lifespan, it does not damage them. That too is covered by Mark in the 12V side of life.
  17. Cut N paste from my settings: Feature update to Windows 10, version 22H2 Successfully installed on ‎07/‎24/‎23 For some reason there is not a kbxxxxxxxx though. All total it shows my computer has received and installed 84 updates since 05/07/22.
  18. Tonight I again got updates for 22H2 on the desktop. Perhaps Microsoft is re-thinking retiring W 10, given the dismal roll-out of W 11? A couple months ago I read an article about Microsoft working on a Windows 12 edition.
  19. I agree with you having the A/T fluid replaced, if the tranny overheated the fluid is ruined anyway. If the sensor just said it was overheated, it's a safe bet anyway. I had the fluid N filters replaced in my Allison 3000 and on the way home it was obvious the tranny worked much better.
  20. I agree. In a MH the hardest part would be installing the condensate drain. the air ductwork installed as you said would be a tremendous aid. If an RV has a booth dinette, under a seat would be a great location for installation.
  21. My desktop machine received a W10(dual-boot with Linux 19.2 Cinnamon) feature update for 22H2 Friday night, along with 3 more various updates. Seems like Cinnamon gets updates every day.
  22. Their new approach with advertising, coupled with the drastic price reductions will, IMO keep other EV mfgrs. on their toes if they want to remain in the EV business.
  23. Here is another option: https://www.pioneerminisplit.com/products/pioneer-9-000-btu-under-bench-rv-heat-pump-air-conditioner?variant=39894059122730&currency=USD I've no clue why they refer to it as a mini-split, it's an all in one cabinet unit.
  24. We trained ourselves to sleep with a white noise machine running, which worked out great. We could overnight in a rest area with HDT's idling right beside the RV and their noise didn't bother our sleep. If you can do the same listening to your portable A/C unit, it might work out to your advantage.
