  1. I used to live in San Diego. There was a hepatitis epidemic among the homeless because they would urinate on the sidewalk and then sleep there at night. The city spent millions steam cleaning the downtown sidewalks and put out port-a-potties. The homeless just urinated on the outside wall of the port-a-potty. One day I was walking downtown to go to lunch at a Burger King. A homeless man outside was begging for food money. I offered to buy him a burger and he refused. Said to give him money. I told him I will give you a burger and nothing else. I went in and ate watching him thru the window begging. He wanted money for booze and smokes not food.
  2. I volunteer at National Parks or State Parks most summers. I checked into volunteering for disaster relief. I am full time. Was told that I had to join a local group, which I can not do since I am full time and move at least every 3 months, almost never returning to the same location. I am also handicapped. I wanted to volunteer to assist with logistics such as drive a shuttle bringing other volunteers to the site, or make trips to the store to buy supplies or food etc. Was told that they only wanted people that could swing a hammer. Was very disappointed. I contacted several organizations such as Habitat For Humanity, Red Cross, and Escapees BOF.
  3. I did it all the time when I had a toy hauler. Loaded the motorcycle using a wheel chock and strapped it down. Then loaded the tables and chairs behind it laying them down on the floor. Placed the bicycle on top of the pile and covered the pile with a moving pad.
  4. Thanks Kirk. I have been to Washington's house but still want to see Jeffersons. My bucket list is getting longer!!!!
  5. As I said already if you are buying a vehicle with a motor and transmission, especially a used one, it is a good investment to purchase an extended warranty. The RV you are looking at a Newmar Dutch Star is a great vehicle and the Cummings motor and Allison transmission are both good too, but they do sometimes breakdown. I have a friend who has an older DutchStar and his diesel motor broke down last summer. It cost him over $30,000 in repairs. I know he did all the service, it just was bad luck for him. Putting $1,629 in a savings account will not even come close to a major repair. I purchased a ESP for my used 2015 DP when I bought it in 2017. Cost me $7,500 for 5 years with a $50 deductible. I have almost broke even in less than 3 years on just minor issues.
  6. As Kirk said, it is a lot cheeper to pay the plan G lower premiums and pay the small deductible than pay the higher premiums of plan F to avoid a small deductible. I have been on G since i signed up last year.
  7. I have been to Philly and DC many times but never Williamsburg, Yorktown or Jamestown. Thanks for the suggestion I will have to Google them.
  8. I am in central FL for the winter and will be heading north sometime April/May. On my bucket list is to go to as many Civil War Battlefields as I can. I have been to Gettysburg several times in the past. Stopped at Vicksburg on my way to FL. I want to go to VA and see the battlefields there. Manssas, Appomattox Courthouse, Antietan, Harpers Ferry, Bull Run etc. What other ones should I visit? What campgrounds are in the area? I would like to camp at one spot for several days and take in as many as I can and then move to another campground for a few days and see the battlefields near by the new campground.
  9. Sounds like a fun time. Could someone post the dates and locations on this forum.

  11. I heard that the Road to the Sun in Glacier National Park may be closed next summer also due to ongoing road repairs.

    Window cranks

Thanks Kirk. After looking at Hehr’s web site it looks like the part I need is called an operator, not the actual crank. I will have to call Winnabego to get the actual manufacturer of the window and call Hehr back. Its funny. I posted this on Nov 24 and did not get a response from anyone until today.
  13. CA is very unique. I had a motorcycle accident one year in Aug and could not ride while recooperating. My renewal on my bike came due the next month in Sept. I filed and paid for a Non-Op. The next year in July I went to registure it so I could ride again. CA DMV made me pay the entire year from the prior Sept even tho I had a Non-Op. I had friends who moved to TX from CA and registured their car in TX. Lived there 2 years and then returned to CA. When they went to registure again in CA after moving back CA DMV made them pay for the prior last 2 years. They showed CA DMV that the vehicle was out of State and registured in TX but still were required to pay the previous 2 years to CA.
  14. As Kirk said try going on rvservicereviews.com. Or as Darryl said go on the manufacturers web site and find an approved installer.
  15. Gear failure? The tech never put it in gear! Just started it and heard a noise. If you can make it to Phoenix there is a place called Massey Diesel. They do good honest work. I would give them a call first and tell them what’s up.
  16. Another sign of fake news, lol lol lol.
  17. I have heard that 40% of everything purchased online is returned. Don’t remember where I read it, maybe online.
  18. First off, you don’t liscense a service dog. No such thing as a liscense or certificate. The certificate is just a diploma from the school that did the training. And if you train the dog to be a service dog she would go with you and not be left behind. I rescued a boxer about two years before I wentfull time. She was about a year old when I rescued her. Trained her myself to be a service dog. After I recooperated we went full time. She was already house trained. Leaving her in the RV is no different than leaving her in the house. I just make sure I do leave her too long and let her out as soon as I get back, just like at the house. She’s good for an 8 hour day just like when I was working.
  19. I saw it on the internet so it must be true.
  20. My son is a big fan of Green Mt. He talked me into buying the Davy Crocket model. It was a good smoker. Worked on 12v or 110v. Came with a 12v plug, 12v clip on cables for a battery and a 110 adapter to plug into an outlet. I ended up giving it to my son for when he goes camping because he has a large Green Mt smoker at home. I like to BBQ a steak and the smoker took too long to slow cook, so I went back to my Weber 2000Q using propane. I am just too impatient to wait for my steak to slow cook.
  21. Before I retired I worked part time out of my home. I had a P.O. Box at the post office as my address because I didn’t want clients to know where I lived. All my mail, business, utilities, insurance and junk mail went to my P.O. Box. This was many years ago however. Now I use the Escapees South Dakota address. The only problem I ever had was trying to buy a firearm at the Rapid City Cabellas and Shields. I was able to complete my purchase at a Mom and Pop gun store.
