  1. State Police we met in Texas said the person's attitude and politeness has a lot to do with the outcome of a stop. He can either talk himself out of a ticket or mouth his way into a ticket. The officers are just trying to do a job, so don't make life hard for him or her. Ken
  2. Here it is.... https://www.waveform.com/blogs/main/introducing-our-mimo-antenna-kits-for-4g-5g-hotspots-and-routers Ken
  3. Generally unproven. .22 loaded with rat-shot works well though. Just don't shoot them near a tire. Ken
  4. Why not put on 3 and get 105% improvement and start making some gasoline for a net gain.
  5. Sorry, I am not ready to jump on the EV bandwagon. We do not have the electric infrastructure to support all the EVs being touted today. Most a reas barely have the capacity to hand a hot or a cold day in extreme weather events. Now they want to ad electric push-cart RVs to the mix. Ken
  6. All I can say is Not my cup of tea. I guess there is a very limited market of folks willing to spend big bucks for minimal living. Ken
  7. I have used the TST (Truck Systems Technologies) 507 system for about 9 years and it works great with great customer support. Prior to that I had a Tire tracker or a Tire Minder and it was nothing but problems. Ken
  8. We have used the Escapees Livingston, TX address as our domicile and it is accepted by out bank, brokerage form and all other places and have not had an issue with any of them. Ken
  9. When we had a 31 foot Minnie Winnie, we got the best trouble-free results from Bridgestone tires. For my F350 crew cab dually, I had run Michelin for years and got long life. Thread life went down to almost half of what I had received in the past. I went to Cooper All Terrain and so far they are wearing good and no issues. As noted above, "best" has different meanings ranging from cheapest to best service life to best wet traction. I would stick to the major brands and avoid anything from China. I generally shop at Discount Tire and find that they will match or beat others pricing for the same tire. They also have a large distribution chain across the USA> Ken
  10. I was not in the military, but I profoundly thank all that have served. My Dad was in the Navy and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. His younger brother was killed in a Japanese attack on his ship in the pacific. His older brothers served in the Army and Army Air Corp in Europe. His older sister was a nurse for the Army in Europe. Without a doubt, this was The Greatest Generation. My dad was on a destroyer escort that came into the harbor late on December 6 and left Pearl Harbor with limited supplies to furnish screening for the carriers that were at sea. They were at sea and did not see port for many months as they took all supplies ate sea. We found the ships logs online for the December 7th attack and their sinking in late 1943. He was injured and woke up on a hospital ship headed to Pearl Harbor. After his 3 months in the hospital and rehab, he was assigned to a sea-going tugboat on the east coast. He had made the rank Chief and his CO wanted to send him to OCS when the war was over. At that time, he had enough of the navy and chose to muster out. He did not speak much of his service except to other navy vets and I am grateful for the information we found online and his service record which my mother had after she passed. He always favored hiring retired military folks for the jobs in the shop that he was foreman over. He said they were better trained and much better work ethics than a lot of others.
  11. Be careful with negative comments towards Thor. The Thor lovers contend that they have so many complaints due to the large volume of RVs they manufacture. Personally, I would look at Winnebago, but they have issues as well. Ken
  12. Our 13-year-old dog is on glucosamine and Rimadyl for her old joints. They do help. Ken
  13. A properly operating propane catalytic heater does not give off CO or NOX, but they do consume oxygen and MUST be vented so that you can still breath. I would not count on that old furnace vent for proper ventilation. You really need to open a window and roof vent. You still need to run an operating CO monitor. It would also be very beneficial to install an oxygen monitor in the RV. Some of the better catalytic heaters include a low oxygen shut down safety. Ken
  14. A couple of years back I could not believe this couple that pulled in. The sites are all pull throughs, with nice, angled approach, 20-foot-wide drive and 70 feet long. It took him over 30 minutes to get into the pull through site. His wife (?) was helping with hand and arm signals. At one point he had the truck in the frass on one side and the trailer on the grass on the other side. A few minutes later he had the truck and trailer positions reversed. He finally pulled out, made a trip around the row and tried again. after some jockeying, he finally had the trailer in semi-straight. They were in the site one night and left. When he pulled out, he did not swing out and his trailer tracked about 4 feet out into the grass. It was obvious that the trailer had received more than its fair share of scrapes and bangs from his driving ability. Ken
  15. The one time I came close to feeling seasick, was offshore at Galveston and it was hot and the wind dies to a calm. The sea was slow rolling swells. I was never bothered by rough seas and sailed through squalls with no problem. Ken
  16. Moe than once we have hunkered down for a day or two to let the wind subside before we could move on. If they are posting High Profile Vehicle warnings on the highways, it is better to wait a day or two. We have been rocked about by the wind but never felt seasick. I guess having raced sailboats may have lessened my sensitivity a bit to rocking and rolling. We have lived in Oklahoma and spent a fair amount of time in Kansas as well as traveled the rest of the country and it can really get windy throughout the central plains of the country. Stay safe on the roads folks. Ken
  17. For the spare, I carry the sidewall maximum pressure and check it every few months. It will lose air pressure and I can always let it down if it is too high. Ken
  18. My wife has had both knees replaced. One 14 years ago and the other 4 years ago and is now 75. She claims it was a great improvement in her life. The initial work after surgery is not a lot of fun, but the pain meds made it possible. She claims that it is a must to stay after the physical therapy and you will improve at a fast rate. Miss the PT and things take longer to get back to normal. Her surgeon told her that with good therapy she would be walking good in a few weeks, but to get back to near 100% it would be closer to a year. She had limped for so long, she had to learn to walk normally again. Good luck with the knees. Ken
  19. The few folks I have talked with that have an EcoBoost were quite pleased with them. Like any engine, it takes power to tote a trailer and the power comes from gasoline exploding in the cylinders. More power equals more gasoline used. I know I will need to closely watch the truck configuration so that I do not get into a weight issue. Ken
  20. We are settling down from full time and selling the rig but still plan to travel with a smaller trailer and gas truck. Been looking at a 8000# GVWR travel trailer and using a new Ford F150 with the Tow Max and 3.5L EcoBoost. Just wondering who might be running such a rig. We won't be taking long trips or to the mountains. Be nice to hear from someone with the truck. Ken
  21. In Texas, you will need a Class A license. This si sometime referred to as a non-commerical class A or or a class A Exampt. RV's do not fall under the requirements for a commerical license unless it is used in a commerical enterprise. The trigger point is your GCW is in excess of 26,000 LB and you are towing over 10,000 LB. If you are towing less than 10,000 LB and are over 26,000 LB GCW you need a class B. There are online study guides and you will take a test over a few chapters from the Commerical Drivers Handbook. Once you pass the written test (really pretty simple), you schedula a driving test with a rig that will meet the weight class or your rig. For ease of testing and people that understand what you need for a class A license, I recommend that you schedule at least the driving portion in Livingston, TX. Texas RV drivers license
  22. More than likely, you will need to register the trailer. The states all want their tax revenue. Check with the DMV. Ken
  23. We have the same Aetna Senior Supplemental and Silver Script as Kirk. For the past two years it has been hassle free. Ken
  24. Lou, that is not how it works. By de-airing the tire, you will generally provide a larger footprint for the tire to exert pressure on the ground this having fewer pounds per square inch on the ground. 30 PSI in the tire does not mean 30 psi on the ground. The tire will still support the same weight on a larger footprint. Say the tire is carrying 5000 LB and with 80 psi pressure in the tire and say the tire has 100 square inches contact area, the tire exerts 50 sq. in. pressure under it on the ground. Say you deflate the tire to 40 psi and the contact area goes up to 150 sq. in. the pressure exerted will be 33.33 psi exerted on the ground. You cannot make magic work on sand. Ken
  25. I have given up talking to others about getting the vaccinations. You will never change their mind and they will not get the shots. Sad thing is the majority of them are from one political leaning. Ken
