  1. I don't even mention the review to the location I review, but don't hold back if I feel something is unfair or not worth the money. I will ask if they realize the huge increase in the daily rate with the charge of their normal "Weekly" rate as the norm for an additional week for a long term stay. My thought is one shouldn't have to ask others to be "Fair" it should just happen. If they are being unfair I hope they accept the consequences and maybe learn from it. Part of a problem with society, no or few consequences for actions against others. It's just accepted all to often be it right or wrong. Rod
  2. On my 2001 Volvo with the Volvo engine I am pretty sure I was able to clear the old messages once. It was a bit of a chore, but all with the controls on the stalk if I remember correctly . I have errors and messages from my missing power divider brakes and one that no one had yet to explain with what looks like a fuel dispenser. I just ignore them unless the truck won't start or the transmission won't find neutral. Rod
  3. Not sure why I did it, but maybe the extreme higher price for a month and a week stay. I have been at this location for over three months and paid my 4th month a week early for next month and reported my end date and wanted to settle that at the same time. The usual is $550 per month plus utilities. My first month of utilities was less than $40 and last month it was a little higher but less than $50. The first rental payment included a $100 deposit against the utility charge so it was $650 and that was fine. On Saturday I paid my last months rent for the month and a week of occupying my site a $22.95 electric charge and the amount was $822.95 They charged me $250 for a one week additional stay. Raising my daily rate from $19.64 per day for 28 days to $22.87 per day for the 35 days. I think that is very unfair. I have not yet approached the management. There are two persons who alternate being at the desk and I'm not sure which one is actually in charge. One is there more often, but they drive similar white pickup trucks so I might think I saw one truck when it was actually the other. I'm thinking on my departure I will question the charge when I get my electric deposit back. I will not be leaving without at least that money in hand. It's not likely I will stay here again and I will with hold my poor review until after I depart unless they really step up. What's the consensus??? Rod
  4. I don't subscribe to Magazines anymore. They make the mail forwarding heavy and expensive. If I need one I read it at the library or pick it up in the Grocery store. Rod
  5. Met a big red truck with an RV behind it on I 29 in North Dakota Saturday early afternoon. I had left Grand Forks, but had not gotten as far as Fargo. Can't remember the mile marker I saw. Did manage a late half wave. Was on my motorcycle with my new Hi Vis Aerostich Suit on and the Yellow Helmet if anyone here saw me. Rod
  6. Most likely there is a switch that pops out when you open the door turning on the light. All you have to do is find something to hold the button in and your light should go off. It may not be easy though. Finding the fuse to that light might work but it may also shut off something else that you don't want to shut off. Removing the bulb is another possibility, but again might be more work than it's worth. Good luck, Rod

  8. I'm probably wrong, but don't think there will be a safe and reliable self driving vehicle in my lifetime. (except those on "Tracks"), I'm fairly sure those could be controlled remotely and not require a person to be there. How about opening up the railroad right of ways to additional traffic . There would need to be additional pull offs, but adding them for much lighter weight traffic to only use would be doable in my mind. Didn't invest in Tesla, probably won't ever own a Tesla. I like to drive. Rod
  9. I do not know the person here, but have stayed in the Loxahatchee area many times and have stayed on private property and it worked out well. You do have to be careful about the "Well Water" if they are providing. I had an issue with the "Sulfur Smell" in my RV that they didn't have in the house. I then found the huge filter/softener system. I would only stay in the winter time. Summer in that area is not my cup of tea. Rod
  10. I posted this as a comment to the video attached to the post regarding High Plains Campground. Hopefully the "Sand Burr" issue has been resolved, but those thorny seed pods will last for decades and maybe even longer. I know the rule here is no replies, but I wish I had been warned before walking across the grass. Rod Lappin 0 seconds ago Another reason for not driving on the grass is the "Sand Burrs" as I call them. If you google what's in the quotes it will bring up the plant and all it's different names. Jack Mayer may remember a fellow HDT'r from Colorado. I happened to see their rig after the HDT Rally in Hutchinson Kansas (Coming up in October again). I too was heading back to Colorado and had stopped at what was then known as the Colonial Restaurant which had a very good "Buffet" meal every day. Sad to think the restaurant is no longer the same. Anyway "Devil Dog" and his wife and K9 were in the park clearing as many of the burrs off of their shoes, dog and all other parts when I walked up. They remarked "Guess they got you too" and pointed to the laces on my sneakers. The rest of the story is long and will only be added if someone requests. Great location, used to be a great meal stop. I would walk the site before ever pulling into the park though. Rod
  11. I was able to see it in Iowa a couple summers ago. Caught it on the move east of Cedar Rapids and then was able to only see if from afar when it stayed overnight just a few miles from the RV park I was staying. They picked a location to park overnight that wasn't accessible to the general public, but all the employees, friends of employees and many others seemed to have free rein of the area. The next stop in Des Moines had a public view that was more close up. Had to work so didn't make the trip the next day. It was quieter than I expected, except for the constant blowing of the horn. It was worth the ride out of town to see and fighting the traffic back to town after. Rod

  14. Best guess is it was just a mere sapling when the car was parked and forgotten. The protection provided by the vehicle and the potential assistance with keeping moisture to the roots offered it maybe the best growing conditions for many of those years. It is time to remove the car from around the tree and to allow the tree to gain to it's utmost potential. It would be a shame, a crime and an all around bad idea to cut down the tree to save the metal. JMHO. Rod

  18. In answer to the question posed in the title. Yes it can. Would I do it? Probably not full time, but part time for sure. Each of us have different situations, needs and desires. I am much more happy pulling my home now than I was with the prior trailer and an F350. I do miss my truck (the 1999 F350), but know where it is and what it's still doing, so that's OK. I could not pull my current home with a one car garage and a one motorcycle garage in addition to ample living area for a single guy with anything other than an HDT. That's my situation, need and desire. Rod ps. My HDT is still less expensive than any 2500, F250, 3500 or F350. It does not always happen that way, but for me it did. rl

  20. The only failures I have had have been Goodyear. They were replaced by Goodyear at no cost to me and they fixed the damage to the trailer. I was concerned about the tires that came on my Spacecraft and was planning on changing them out quickly. Other things happened and this year while in Iowa I had my tire dealer take a look at them. His thought "They have good tread, there is no weather checking, I'd run them." I did, but suggested taking the inside dual and putting them out into the potential sun exposure that they really haven't seen and when we did I found the flat spot with cords showing that neither of us had seen. It happened when I was leaving for my trip. One of the brakes didn't release and I thought dragging on the street would help. DON'T DO IT. Is my lesson. As soon as you see a tire not turning stop, jack up the axle and tap the drum with a hammer until it turns. Two out of the eight tires on my trailer are now new. I also decided to go with the least expensive tires available. I will never "Wear them out." They will age out or get weather checked and need replacement. They will then go to a local farmer where my tire dealer is and will last a long time hauling grain out of the field to the bin. The farmer will be happy and hopefully so will I. Rod
  21. I have converted to putting nothing solid into the holding tanks, grey or black. (There are various methods). I tried leaving my two grey tanks and single black tank open at my current location and it seemed to work fine, but then it got hot and very dry and I would notice an ammonia odor at times. I have since gone back to keeping the gray tanks closed and did a "P" trap in my black tank hose. When the grey tanks are full I dump and one of the grey tanks uses the same outlet as the black so it flushes out the black tank when it's emptying, especially when it's completely full. Since I no longer have solids to worry about I have used the garden hose outlet on the cap for the kitchen grey and a 2 inch clamp on connector for the bathroom combo of grey/black. I travel single and can go for many weeks before having to empty, especially if I "Need" to. Spent a whole summer more than once on a farm in Iowa where I pulled in with an empty Black tank and left with it full in the fall. The second year of doing I was starting to get worried and started the no solids activities and have adopted them for ever now I think. Each of us have reasons for how, when and where we do things. I will have to try the borax and dawn on of these days and attach a clear section to my hoses to see what comes out from my next trip. Rod

As it quickly tapered off I started looking for something else and thought my Subaru Crosstrek was the answer. It wasn't but the Jeep so far has filled in nicely. It's not a new concept and was a lot more expensive than what the Elio was supposed to be and what this Sondors Metacycle is priced at. At $100 refundable as a preorder I'm really tempted to jump in today, but just as I was ready to commit I reminded myself of the Elio and the money that was not "Refundable". "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me." Is what I heard in my minds voice. Sure it's apples and oranges in the type and situation, but close enough for my mind today. I ride my current motorcycle almost every day to work, getting groceries and on many of my extended trips while I am set up for an assignment. This will not replace it, but I could leave the big bike in the garage all nice and clean for those bigger trips and not worry about the times where it's too far (or hilly) to ride the pedal cycle, yet not far enough to actually bring the gas powered up to operating temperature before arriving. With the electric there is no warm up or cool down that I can determine. If I actually invest in this I will remove the link to the company so as not to seem to be promoting. Rod
  23. That statement is not true. I know it for a fact. What does happen often is the tire shop throws in a bag of balancing medium and doesn't tell the new tire with beads owner that it takes a bit of time for the bag to get punctured and the beads to spread out to where they are needed. I had that actually happen to me when I had new tires placed on one of my vehicles. I had them spin balance them, break one side and put in a portion of the beads. I didn't think I needed to tell them to break the bag before installing, but I guess I did. The first 15 miles were interesting, maybe because the tires and wheels were already balanced and it was just throwing the bag around inside intact. Everything smoothed out and all has been good with the set for several years. I do occasionally notice the beads when it's really cold, they seem to clump together for a bit and I feel it. Doesn't take long and it smooth sailing again. Rod

  25. My 2001 has an issue of not finding Neutral and not starting with the key. I've found another way to start the motor and in time Neutral will show up and I am able to drive. I've had several mechanics try to find the issue and once I thought it was fixed. Had months of no failures or the message "Check Transmission next stop". Like Vern. Someday a complete repair will have to happen, when the truck won't move. Rod
