You're probably on your way by now but another suggestion would be to just leave the refrigerator off and shop for your refrigerator when you get in milder weather. It only takes a day or two before the bitter cold is gone. In the meantime, fill a cooler with drinks and sandwich fixings, snacks, etc. and eat your main meals in restaurants for that first one or two days.

Don't worry about it... could even turn it off overnight. The outside temperature is cold enough that things will keep cold enough. Leave door closed as much as possible. Hope you're heading due south and then west to stay out of possible storms.

According to your posts you've been exploring this for a few years. Hope you succeed on your plans!! One thing to do is to Google for a 'full-timer's rv budget'. There will be old ones but hopefully, new also. If you can look at actual budgets you may see some things that you didn't think of which would help prepare yours.

I don't see how anyone can zero in on monthly site costs for you. Everyone is different as to what kind of park/site they are happy with. What may please them won't please you and vice versa. Prices are all over the place depending if you're near a big city, special attractions, popular area seasonably... beach/mountains, out in the country, etc. It may be more helpful if you would just go to a park site that you're considering and see what they charge.

There's a YouTube out there of a RVer putting down lights under his rig and it showed packrats running over and around them having a ball! If one puts down lights and they don't have packrats that doesn't mean they'd have packrats if they had no lights. We stayed a long period of time in one place on public lands and never had packrats. No lights.

I agree with RYNOSBACK: We researched a lot and when we decided what we wanted we sent our specific specs with many customs to 10 Newmar dealers and went with the one that gave us the best price. We didn't care where we bought it because as full-timers we weren't going to be near them anyway, if needed, and it was easy to go to another Newmar dealer for help. As it turned out, we never had any issues so didn't have to return.

In 16 years of full-timing we never had an issue of getting our mail via General Delivery. However, pick a nearby 'small' town to receive it; not a large town or not like Quartzsite during Jan/Feb when millions of people are there. We always went online to the post office web site to see if they accept General Delivery. Never found one that didn't. Calling would be good. You certainly don't have to visit it in person. Allow time for your mail to arrive if you're in a traveling mode. Have it always sent Priority Mail. Pick a place you'll be at least 5 days ahead of where you are now. Best is to request your mail when you're sitting for a while so you have plenty of time to receive it. Even traveling to Alaska we received our mail within 5 days.

From what I've seen of Airstream is that the price is very high for the quality. A friend had one and hated it... lack of storage and lack of good insulation. It was always freezing in winter.

Increase in fuel mileage is so tiny we never noticed it.

You will be surprised at how easy a car tows behind a motorhome. You won't even know it's there. Same goes for hooking it up - very easy. At first, make yourself an index card with the hooking up steps and keep it in your car to use every time you do so until you're confident in remembering the steps... or ... always use it just to be sure. Just like everything - the more you do it the easier it becomes. We could not imagine RVing without having a vehicle to get around. Much less worry about traffic, parking, siteseeing ease, etc. You'll love it!

I agree with JustRich..... look for a used Jeep Trailhawk (or new but new cars are soooo expensive). They are very fine vehicles and will easily get your kayaks and fishing gear to the backcountry. CarMax has some available. We had a good experience with them.

Specific large groups at Quartzsite during the RV Show the last 2 weeks of January would be your best bet for what you want: meeting up with old friends, new meetings, daily life, activities. I'd recommend the very active Escapees Boomers group who have a gathering of 100+ at Quartzsite https://member.escapees.com/community/bofs/boombof.aspx or the Escapees Xscapers group which will be at Quartzsite & also Lake Havasu Citys. We are very familiar with Tucson. I'd recommend mid to the end of April for your visit. Other than saguaros, the desert is in full bloom from February to late April - some things begin even earlier and last later. You'll want to see other things in bloom, also. If saguaros are on your bucket list they 'usually' bloom the last 2 weeks of April until July. It depends on winter rains or freezes. So far, Tucson has had nice rains, including today. They don't burst into bloom all at once. They open a few at a time and only last a day or two. I think you'll be surprised by the size of the bloom. They aren't as large as pictures sometimes show. However, a bunch opening around the same time is gorgeous. It's a beautiful sight whenever you can see them bloom. Tour both areas of Saguaro Nat'l Park - east and west. The terrain looks completely different. Hiking is awesome! Note... there's no camping in either section of the park. Catalina State Park would be a great place to stay or Tucson Mtn. Park right next to Saguaro West. You will encounter warmth the last 2 weeks of April but it's 'dry heat' 😄 so not as noticeable as being in a humid area.... really. May temps begin to rise. I wouldn't recommend visiting beyond the middle of May. May & June are the hottest before the summer monsoon rains begin in July. The Sonoran Desert is beautiful!

We never use a debit card. Have two credits cards..... one is used for AutoPays only. The other only for purchases. If the one used for purchases gets compromised..... and hasn't in 15 yr. or so...... the AutoPays are always safe. Works for us!
