2005 Southwind
Just got a 2009 smart car fortwo and was wondering if it was possible to to it on a tow dolly? I have read on the forums about towing 4 down but nothing about towing with a tow dolly. Has anyone towed a smart car with a tow dolly? thanks in advance
Darryl&Rita
Break out the tape measure. They're so narrow, a lot of "normal" car things won't work, like drive thru oil change bays. I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again. 2000 Kenworth T 2000 w/N-14 and 10 speed Gen1 Autoshift, deck built by Star Fabrication 2006 smart fourtwo cdi cabriolet 2007 32.5' Fleetwood QuantumPlease e-mail us here. bruce t
Why are they called 'Smart' cars? To my mind they aren't the 'smartest' vehicle to drive on an interstate. An 18 wheeler would make quick work of one. regards

An 18 wheeler would make quick work of one. regards Wow, that really contributed to the conversation. What does your mind think of all the motorcycles on the road that a smart car "would make quick work of"? As Glenn pointed out most vehicles in the road are in trouble when going head to head with a truck-tractor. If course, Glenn and I have the best of both worlds. bruce t
Sorry guys. I guess 'humour' is no longer allowed on the forum. I withdraw my comments and go and stand in the corner. Sheez.

GlennWest
It wasn't humorous. Nothing in comment sounded funny. We can all joke and have fun about Smarts. noteven
The smaller vehicle's/motorcycle's ability to maneouver to avoid, brake extremely quickly, etc is always ignored in the "head on with a truck" scenarios. In lotsa crash situations I would take being buckled into a tiny Indy car or Smart car vs a collapsing roof won ton deezil. Back to the thread: A nice little Smart sized tilt deck trailer would be my choice - it could be human powered with a little bit of engineering... Tow dollies seem like they would be a pain to back up? "Are we there yet?" asked no motorcycle rider, ever.
Dennis M
For the doubters: Our 2011 after a 3/4 frontal hit from a full size pickup that blew a red light at app 60 MPH. Passenger and I walked away with minor injuries caused by the seat belts and shoulder harnesses. Driver's door still opened and closed as normal! If you look closely you can see a tiny kink at the base of the A pillar - only frame damage! We replaced it with a 2013 with CityFlame package. Jack Mayer
Thank you Dennis. Hard to argue with physical proof. The reality is that the smartfortwo is a very safe car. Is it the safest on the road? No, not by testing standards. But it is up there..... Jack & Danielle Mayer #60376 Lifetime Member Living on the road since 2000PLEASE no PM's. Mark and Dale Bruss
A long time ago Cadillac dealers in Texas had a commercial made about Volkswagens impacting Cadillacs. Volkswagen countered with an ad about Cadillac impacting Greyhound buses. It is all a matter of perspective. I will be moving my files from photobucket as soon as I can setup my own hosting server. Sucks that they decided to do this worldwide without any notice to the people that linked photos to web sites using THEIR preferred method. 2023 Thor Magnitude XG32
