  1. First thing is: we don't know the death rate. If, as suspected 90% of people who get have no serious symptoms, that will reduce the death rate drastically. But imay still be higher than the seasonal flu. One degree C is a little less than 2 deg F. But the wuhan virus may not be with us that long. Right now if you look at a global map of the virus occurances you will see that the worse outbreaks all are around the same latitude band. China, Italy, in the US New York state to Washington state are all in that band. And they have cooler temps. People wonder why it has not hit Africa and South America as much, they are all hot and humid. Here in this section of Florida where the temps are already in the mid 80's and the humidity is high most of the year, all reported cases have been imported from other places. Like Flu and SARs this virus may burn out as soon as the temps increase as Spring moves on. All this panic and hysteria for nothing.
  2. Their stock dropped over two-thirds last week. But of course that was during the hysterical sell off on Wall Street. But still if they do go belly up anyone holding their ESP, ERS or other long term programs will be out of luck if they go bankrupt. So wait and see is probably the best policy right now: RVtravel and then there is this on the TSD-Flying J debacle: dieselgate
  3. You could be right, but many folks who are permanently disabled do not qualify for handicap tags. I've been offered them but refused since I am perfectly able to get around. The nps site says: So I think you found a ranger that considered the tag as documentation. I know that the handicapped mirror hangers get passed around to relatives and friends tho.
  4. If you are permanently disabled or a service connected veteran then the lifetime Access Pass for the National parks and all other federal facilities is free. You just need a note from your doctor or one from the VA (you can get it off your VA webpage) to take to any park entry station, or sometimes the visitor center. Some states have similar discount cards, Florida for one, for service connected Vets. If you are service connected since 1/20 you can now use the campgrounds on military bases. Some from what I hear are excellent and all are cheap. I'll second the Escapees suggestion too. Good Sams card gets 10% off at most parks, I'm not sure of the cost it used to be $20 and they gave you a $20 coupon for their stores, may have jumped to $30 with a $30 coupon. If you use the coupon then the card is essentially free, if not it takes 6 or 7 campgrounds to make up the price at $30/night. Just pointing this out, boondocking does not involve resort stays...heh. But we are laid back obviously.
  5. Yup that's it, and I've never been in a COE that was leased out but I haven't been to that many.
  6. That statement is bookended with statements that clearly accredit Musk, so if that wasn't his statement that 'reporter' needs to go to reporter re-education camp.
  7. Musk made a statement saying the system will go live for the Northern US and Canada in 2020, everyone else in 2021: Musk Statement Frankly I'm hoping Visible will last until this goes live. I have not seen anything on ground antennas tho.
  8. Hire an independent RV inspector whatever you get before you sign anything. There are a lot of horror stories about new Class A coaches.
  9. Go by Bisbee, see the mine and the unique town layout too. Coronado is a new one on me, I added it to my map of attractions. You want to check out this page tho: Partial closure until 12/20
  10. We haven't made it to Kartchner yet but it is high on our to-do list. We've been to Chiricahua twice, once when we had a small popup and could camp in the park. The second time we had a 35 ft fiver and found no campsites closer than I-10 which was discouraging. We have 25 ft TT now and I think we might fit. And that is part of the reason so few people ever visit the park, the other reason is that it is just plain out in a corner by itself away from almost everything. It is a fascinating park and I want to spend a week or so there, maybe next fall when we are semi fulltiming. Bisbee and Kartchner are within daytrip range too. And very close is Ft Apache which is worth a trip just for the cemetery.
  11. Karchner Caverns and Chiricahua NM are two in AZ, Chiricahua seems to be rarely visited I never see mention of it here or on other lists.
  12. That's the one good suggestion on that list and it is a very old one.
  13. Got out at six with a medical discharge for hearing loss. The quiet service isn't so quiet after all, especially when your watchstation is sitting with your knees about a foot from 3 feedwater pumps....heh
  14. Actually it is bad net etiquette to correct minor grammar and spelling errors, if you must do it, then send a private message suggesting the use of the spell checker. I'd be firing off several messages a week if I corrected the use of breaks for brakes for example. I'd blame the terrible condition of the schools except I suspect most online here went to school back in the good days. So lighten up seeing a spelling error will cause you a lot less angst than you will give someone by publicly correcting them. And Homeless don't let this discourage you. You did get a couple responsive replies, just ignore the rest.
  15. If you buy the plates from Dyers or ETrailer or a local RV parts house, the process is easy if you are the least bit handy. Take out three or four easy to get to small bolts, cut the electric leads, pull the old plate off. Insert the new plate, replace bolts, splice the wires. Takes maybe 10 mins a wheel and most of that for getting the wheel off and then back on. May as well lube the bearings at the same time. Total cost probably around $400 or less for four wheels. I've heard of people getting quotes for way over a $1000 from a brake shop. An example from Dyers You would need to get the right sized plate, most are either 10 inch or 12 inch from what I've seen.
  16. I haven't done it since I live here in Florida, but I've seen reports of people completing the process, in selected counties, in less than a day. That's with the guidance of the Brendan Isle mail forwarding company in Green Cove Springs and doing it in their county. Other counties can be less accommodating. I don't know is Escapees forwarding can help you as much. As for Sumpter Oaks, never heard of it. Why not call them for info.
  17. First thing before I get flamed: I also posted this as a reply to a post up in General so skip it if you already saw it there. OK Tito DIY blog just posted a blog on this very subject: Tito He has a system that look pretty good to me, I was skeptical about using a drill pump but the one he shows emptied a 5 gal container in 2 minutes. The ones I've used in the past would not move that much as rapidly. Those 5 gal containers he shows are a very good deal right now, $5 each. I just ordered 4 with $8 shipping. The cubitainers on Amazon are more in the $10 each range so even with the shipping that is a good deal. I don't know if they are running a special, knowing about his blog, because their other smaller containers cost more than $5. So if you are interested I'd go and grab them right away. That tube he stuck into the water tank at the end of the hose is from Camco $4, called a water tank filler.

  19. I thought they used green sand to embed the wax into. Green casting sand You may want to try that if you do it again. Plaster has problems IIRC.
  20. I was in the Navy but not a retired. Does that qualify?
  21. As for Capital One we had serious problems in the far past with them where they we quite unethical in my opinion. (I'm not going into any more details) Anyone involved is obviously long gone but we will never use that bank. They were on Clark Howard's good list tho. As was Discovery the credit card comapany which pays back 1% on debit card use if I read that right.
  22. That's the one Clark Howard recommends, I'm leaning towards just sticking with my current bank tho. I got the phone up up and running so that issue is solved
  23. Looking ahead to this summer. Is anyone using a good easy to deal with internet bank? We are using a regional bank now. I'm not all that fond of Bank America.
