  1. This is why many of us are turning to cell phone hot spots and just ignore the cg WIFI. I was very surprised and happy to find the rare cg with good strong WIFI this last summer. This coming summer TOGO Roadtrek (AT&T) and in combination with Visible (Verizon) will provide most of our internet access.
  2. So far as I know that is an accurate portrayal of some residents of Cali. The rents are so high in the cities and housing prices are astronomical so folks are being forced out of the cities and into the woods. Zoning completely has blocked new construction. The government makes clearing brush and thinning the woods almost impossible. So they are fire traps. Many install solar on their houses that feeds back into the power system, but they do not add a battery bank. So when the power goes off the solar is up on the roof making power that they cannot access. The government has also forced the power company to spend all it's free cash on renewables leaving none for line maintenance. So trees and brush are close to the ill maintained lines, the power company turns off the power to prevent fires. But they happen anyway. They are pressured into buying electric cars but the power is off and the solar is worthless so they cannot charge the car. The woods catch on fire the house burns and maybe they get out. And so yeah people are leaving, the highest gas taxes in the nation, other taxes are the second highest in the country, roads are not maintained but they are spending $90,000,000,000 on a train to no-where using gas taxes. And the completely controlled state government spends it's time passing laws about XYZQW (I don't recall the letters) and keeping criminals from being deported, and passing unconstitutional gun laws.
  3. We have been down some rough roads in our TT and have never had anything break inside a cabinet and we do not use any sort of padding. We had a problem with some doors popping open but I installed new magnetic latches when we got home. Still have to fix the rocking chairs turning over problem. I don't want to screw them down so I'll have to come up with something other than that. I have several ideas percolating around in my head, one will rise to the surface soon...heh.
  4. For the most part I find that Days End and Campedium fill 90% of my site searches and when in doubt I look for the online MVUM of the NF and BLM land: " Camping on public lands away from developed recreation facilities is referred to as dispersed camping. Most of the remainder of public lands are open to dispersed camping, as long as it does not conflict with other authorized uses or in areas posted "closed to camping," or in some way adversely affects wildlife species or natural resources. " BLM and so no MVUM is needed. You can camp anywhere on BLM land unless there are signs saying otherwise. I'm toying with the idea of getting ALStays since they seem to have an excellent interface and maybe the best list of dump stations available. At least one site posted a check of different apps showing dump stations and Alstays came out ahead of the others. But that was a limited test of just one area (Moab)
  5. Like those who bought an electric vehicle, were forced to move into wooded area, they have solar on the house, the power company turns the power off, no power disables the solar, the woods are burning, and they cannot charge their car to escape. Those people?
  6. Looks to be very difficult to use. Search seems to be by lat/long not something most of us are ready to use when looking for a campsite in eastern WY for example. You can get it to show all the sites in it's database but they seem to completely disorganized. Probably showing by date of entry. Whoever running this needs to learn some coding. Anyway what's wrong with the SKP database or Campedium to name two. Lots of folks like Allstays which is decades ahead of this site which seems to follow 1980 coding standards.
  7. I've never heard of the Sixt Rental company but I do not watch TV nor have I rented a car in 20 years and that was for business travel. They claim to be widely distributed around the world.
  8. I suspect the Cadillac Ranch, Las Vegas and New Orleans show that people with different 'preferences' also travel. And probably not just to see the place. Most of us here are more in tune with visiting natural scenic areas but there are a lot of folks who are interested in urban attractions.
  9. Yeah we only could stop for a couple hours but it was well worth the visit. The people running the place said we were actually too early (early July) to really see the place since the grass was still growing. However there couldn't have been 20 people visiting so that makes it's inclusion on the list puzzling.
  10. survey I think we could all guess the first 3 or 4. I was surprised by number 30, we've been there and it is interesting and we plan a return visit this coming summer. But it is hardly spectacular and is way out of the normal travel routes.
  11. IIRC this whole Viable situation came about as the result of a settlement with the anti-trust people over a merger Verizon was doing.
  12. There are multiple links to this story including video of the killer being taken to jail. In this weeks RVTravel magazine. I think the idea of someone inviting this critter into their camp site is out the window after getting a look at him. Tattooed hair for example and giant holes in his ears. More likely people would start getting their 1911 out after one glimpse.
  13. No but I've seen several other articles talking about AT&T's misdeeds. We have had plenty of problems with them 'slamming' our account. Adding services that we never wanted or authorized. And I just saw one saying that they just added $10/mo to peoples 'unlimited' account bills while adding some extra capacity. Users cannot refuse this 'bonus'. My wife called to ask them if we could put our DSL on 'vacation hold' for a month. They said no and if we stopped it that would be the end of it they would not restart it. I wanted to keep it available while we tried out Visible, just in case. Visible has been great so far, I'm over 50GB right now and no signs of any slow down. I'm not sure what their WIFI service is, I never really looked at their literature that they send us every few days. My daughter got it tho and has been happy with it so far as I know. AT&T installs a WIFI antenna and router I believe but again I don't know for sure.
  14. "God created man, and Samuel Colt made them equal." Think about it.
  15. The latest report is that the authorities are looking for some guy from Utah, just out of prison. They identified his photo driving the RV over the Mexican Border. He is distinctly gringoish in appearance which blows the Mexican gang theory out of the water. Still a very disturbing. If he belongs to any gang I suspect it might be the Aryan Brotherhood: Police notice
  16. 60 million dollar fine while they hauled in multiples of that while lying to 'unlimited' customers about data throttling: https://www.extremetech.com/mobile/301540-att-rewarded-with-60m-fine-after-lying-to-customers-about-mobile-data-throttling I think they deliberately throttled my DSL line while trying to force us to their new WIFI service. I moved to Visible instead.
  17. I've been using LibreOffice tho not very much. Mainly the spreadsheet right now. It works and is much cheaper than MS Office. I don't know how it compares feature by feature but 95% of users never use more than the basic Office features.
  18. Yeah get a Sunpass just to avoid the aggravation of having to stop and pay 25 cent tolls every few miles. With the pass you have to slow down but hopefully not stop and wait in line.
  19. We have used a prong collar and yes it does control the dogs on a lead. But it does not allow you to let the dogs off lead. You cannot use it to train them to sit, stay and come. So it is very limited. I would like to thank those who posted all those very helpful ecollar suggestions. I would not have thought of the 'sit' solution to our dogs wanting to take on other dogs. So if you have any more I'm ready to listen and implement them. The collar is supposed to be here today and unfortunately I ordered one before I saw the suggested vendor. We'll work with what we have and maybe hand that down to my daughter who also has a dog and order that one.
  20. Why don't you just get Visible? It is owned by Verizon and for $40/mo you get 22GB unlimited with network management over that only if the cell tower is busy. And that $40 is flat rate no addons. You need an approved phone but they are selling one for $16 and you get a $100 rebate with any phone under $400. So your first two months would be free. I have it and so far it works great. We will kill our current landline DSL next month which was $65/mo and provided terrible service from AT&T
  21. I have said in the past that I didn't think there was much difference between the ERS (Emergency Road Service) companies. But some recent investigation makes me think the you should avoid AAA, and also Good Sams. For GS there are a number of people saying that GS could not get a tow truck to them that day. WE had that exact same thing happen to us in Arkansas years ago so this is not new. While I saw zero complaints about that on other issues. Just a guess but I think GS contracts with fewer tow truck operators across the country. So when you break down in West Nowhere, Nebraska GS has no contracted operators within 100 miles. That would be cheaper and they offer cheaper rates. In our case because of a quirk we had both GS and Coachnet and after GS gave us the brush off I called Coachnet and they had a truck there in less than 30 minutes. AAA seems to have hidden clauses in their contracts with their ERS customers that they reveal when they are called on for service. Of the "we don't cover that!!" type. Also make sure your ERS covers all your vehicles and either unlimited tow miles or at least 200 miles. The ones I have see no complaints about are Coachnet, which is one of the most expensive. And Escapees, and you have to be an Escapee member to get that. But with a Class A this is absolutely something you do not want to cheap out on. FMCA offers ERS and I have seen no complaints about them either. FMCA is maybe a club you may want to join. Never having owned a coach I never paid any attention to them but a lot of people belong. They recently voted to 'allow' towable owners to join but I sustect it would be as the poor relation...heh
  22. With the exception of the Florida Turnpike and one short road north of Tampa, you will not see any toll roads north and west of Orlando. They are mainly east of Orlando, in Orlando or down in Dade and Broward counties. Aka Miami/Launderdale. And those areas are infested with northeastern transplants who brought their NE ways with them.
