  1. Have you been thru a 'fasting glucose test"?? I hope that is not included on the average physical. I've been thru it twice and it isn't pleasant unless you enjoy having you blood drawn every 30 minutes for 6 or 8 hours. I do myself get scheduled checkups, and if the doc's say I need XYZ then I get XYZ. I'd be dead, most unpleasantly if I wasn't alert to problems. I caught a melanoma at class 1 myself. Years ago and I consider myself cured but still get annual skin checks. What people do themselves is up to them of course but Medicare covers annual checks 100% I believe.
  2. Carriers lie about coverage No surprise to most of us I suspect
  3. You have a point. But there is some responsibility to warn those who may not have been following the news. I've been to Mexico 4 or 5 times tho I have to confess these were just cross border day trips. And in the right area I'd do it again, but not to Nuevo Larado. If people want to take the risk then it isn't my place to try to stop them. But the people who try to paint a picture of the place that just does not conform to reality are just misguided.
  4. OK next item I don't recall hearing about shootouts in the US where the criminals are allowed to win and to recover arrested criminals from jail. They took police hostage and were allowed to walk away as winners. Can you imagine that happening in NYC for example? That happened a few weeks ago in Mexico. In the El Paso area? And I don't recall massacres of scores of citizens by the police, like happened in southern Mexico. Or this in Coahilla. Or the fact that 130 politicians have been killed down there: link Or here is a whole series of links. So do not even try to compare that War Zone to the US.
  5. Mexico, in my opinion and in the US State Dept's opinion, is unsafe to travel in. Read this 21 dead near border add to this the massacre a couple weeks ago of the Mormons including children and infants. There is unending open warfare. The country is out of control. Their government says they are going to tame the cartels with 'love' not guns. They are so corrupt that they cannot beat the cartels back. President Trump has justifiably classified the cartels as terrorists. The place is an out of control war zone and anyone who travels down there is asking for trouble. May as well travel to Syria
  6. We have FL BCBS and I have Medicare and we've never had a problem stopping on the road if someone needs to see a doc. Once in a small town in MT on Rt 2 and once in Riverton WY are two that I recall. But apparently FL has better than average coverage. I hung on to my employers plan after I retires as a secondary policy.K
  7. Parking in Key West is very difficult at the best of times. During the height of snowbird season it's surely worse. And as mentioned for Miami I don't know if I'd want to take my F450 DRW down many of those streets. Unlike Miami, which I cannot see visiting anymore. We got on the surface roads a couple of years ago and it took us 90 minutes to go less than a mile. And I lived there for years as a kid. The zoo is far south of town these days, the beach was great but I haven't set eyes on it for years and that was before the urban outdoorsmen invasion. But recent reports about cars being intentionally rammed to get people to stop so they can be robbed has removed all desire to go back and see the old home. Probably leveled by now anyway. Key West is at least interesting and so far as we've seen fairly safe. And the sunset is something work seeing once. But you need to camp somewhere and drop the RV. It might be possible to drop the RV at some roadside pulloffs along some beaches down there where the road is practically on the beach. But I would not drive off and leave it there. It could get towed or vandalized or even stolen. But this is the worst time of the year to visit the area. Go between the end of April and November. It can be toasty but there is almost a good seabreeze. We have visited several times in May and never felt overheated. And the keys deserve a few days visit. If nothing else take the snorkeling/scuba boats out to the reefs and swim for several hours. It's an unforgettable experience.
  8. Exactly, a few bucks difference in registration costs is meaningless in the big picture.
  9. I'd rather swap it over myself then I know that the MT needs to be filled.
  10. We carried a 4 month old Aussie with us on a 4 or 5 week trip. He mainly traveled parked in my son's lap. But unless forbidden we take our dogs on trails with us. But we occasionally leave them in the RV for a few hours with the a/c on. They are well behaved, but if you dog starts barking and whining the whole time he is left then that will be a problem. The dogs travel in the back seat, they get half and we cover the seat to protect it from their claws. The other half is used by a small ice chest and a geedunk box for road snacks. If we ever have to replace one of our dogs I'm inclined to get a little smaller breed, miniature aussie maybe. Something in the 20-25 pound range. We just are not interested in anything smaller.
  11. I just ordered one of the magnetic stick ons. We don't seem to go thru that much propane and I get an empty cylinder filled long before the full one is depleted. But we have not had to use the furnace while out on the road yet. Even if you have a remote indicating sensor you still have to go out into the dark and rain to swap cylinders. It's like the people bragging about electric black/gray valves. You still have to go out and disconnect the lines when you leave.
  12. I may be wrong about this but I understand TX has vehicle inspections, which FL does not. I'm not really affected by the domicile issue since we live in FL and have a real address. I'll still use a forwarding service when we go mostly full time next May. I'm leaning towards St Brendan Isle for that tho. If you cannot use your relatives address in FL then I've heard several folks comment that Gilchrist County FL is especially accommodating towards full timers with a forwarding service address.
  13. I looked at it but it seemed to be dead with no posts except for the ones the guy who built the site put up. Or so I assume. Has there been any activity? I checked it out again, there was one new post from someone looking for Boondocking near West Palm Beach, FL. I posted a reply that I doubted he would find anything much but the site seems to have devoured my reply. So the heck with that. Why not just post here anyway?
  14. Not how it worked when I got one but that was years ago. The note on the new mail box worked, next day you had a new address. In FL
  15. For Gun Control Act (GCA) purposes, a person is a resident of a State in which he or she is present with the intention of making a home in that State. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- That flies in the face of what was federal law when I was in the service. You had the option to declare that the state you enlisted in was your home state thruout your enlistment. You could renew your vehicle registration and DL via mail even if you never set foot in that state for 20 years. And not pay state income tax while you were stationed in CA but resided in FL. So how does a service member purchase a weapon in ID when he is a permanent resident of FL for example? I did it but that was before the current mania infected the country. OK I think I found the answer to that you can buy out of state with PCS orders showing you are stationed in the state you are buying in. And in your home state with your state DL. And at least in some states they wave the 3 day waiting period if you have a note from a superior officer saying you are OK...heh.
  16. I used a mail box on the property we bought while I slowly built a house over several years. That was no problem. You think someone will go out from the DMV to check your address? Extremely unlikely IMO unless you do something to arrouse lots of suspicion.
  17. That's true I think Passports, merchant mariner ID's and probably military IDs are compliant. Maybe one or two others.
  18. You can get an address if you have a plot of land by sticking a mailbox out on the road with a note on it asking the mailman for an address.
  19. The real id act actually kicks in next October according to an article in Wired. All states are finally complying. It was supposed to go into full effect years ago and has been repeatedly delayed but this time it looks like it will happen. You won't be able to travel by air, enter federal courthouses or office buildings and I guess military bases and so on w/o the real id.
  20. Florida tag agencies are run by the county tax collector. Every county has their own and it's his wishes that will govern how this process runs. Here in Alachua county they are on the friendly and helpful tack. I'm sure you can find some county in the state that will treat you like the Cali DMV if that's what you prefer. Tax Collectors are elected in Florida, and most seem to want to keep getting elected and making a lot of voters angry at the tag agencyis not the best way to achieve that. I lost my DL last year and went down to replace it, I happened to have my Passport in the truck and took that in as ID. They took that by itself and I walked out with a real id DL. Whole process took less than 10 minutes. No proof of address asked for.
  21. " have the ToGo and I'm seriously looking at the Visible! My Cell carrier is T-Mobile who also is a Hot Spot. We're you able to get in on the 25.00 per month with Visible and are you currently using it? Just wondering how its all working out? " Visible has been great so far. I have had it for a little less than a month and we are on the $40 rate but I'm going to look into the party rate ASAP. I just told my wife to kill our AT&T DSL and she just took care of it. I think we are over 50 GB on visible and no sign of any slowdown.
  22. Don't think we don't notice it, and loath it. They are building over 1000 apartments and 700 new houses in our small town which once had a population of 1500.
  23. Yeah, perhaps some people are entering the state. Over the Mexican border, from China or the 'homeless' from every other state. But are they productive, working tax payers? It would be enlightening to see the demographics of those new residents.
  24. Hengs roof coating was compatible with Dicor when I did my old fiver roof. Easy to use too. Amazon And you'll notice Dicor is selling a roof coating now, very pricey of course. I've never heard anyone say they used it yet.
