  1. For about 5 years I did a job where I was in a different motel room 4, 5 or sometimes 6 nights a week. So I stayed in about 250 or more, motel rooms per year. THAT GOT OLD. You will learn to hate that in short order. Someone who has stayed in a few motel/hotel rooms per year might think, 'no problem'. But it becomes a problem when repeated that many times a year. It is NO fun.
  2. Well, technically, yes, but if you don't have at least $12,400 filing as single (more if married) worth of deductions then you will see no reduction in your taxes due.
  3. I've used TurboTax for years ever since my previous CPA retired... Two areas where TurboTax fell short is figuring the 'per diem' deductions for transportation workers, and figuring basis and P&L (capital gains and losses) for employee stock purchases, and then later on selling some of the stock. I had to go outside the program and acquire documents and information on other websites, in some cases waiting days or weeks for information, then do a LOT of 'ciphering' (I had Jethro on speed dial!) then return to the program and enter my results into the program in the right places. These two very basic functions should have been included in the package.
  4. Yes, I know how it works. The point I was making is the nonsense (in my opinion) of making a person pay state taxes based on what state they happen to temporarily be in when they earned that income.
  5. Can you imagine if they tried that nonsense with interstate truck drivers? They are earning money in a lot of states in the course of a year...
  6. Diesel pumps have one or two inline fuel filters so those should catch any floating debris, and the pickup tubes in the underground tanks are above the bottom, so they don't normally suck up much debris. Unless someone went to a lot of trouble to bypass the filters (virtually no chance of that) you should be getting clean fuel even if a tanker is offloading fuel.
  7. Yes, completely accurate. I said MOST. There are a subset of primarily FPV drones, especially the ATV transmitters (for analog video) that some are (or were) supplied with, that make an amateur license necessary. But this tiny subset of drones on the market does not qualify as 'most'. The majority of this thread deals with camera drones for photography or spotting things from the air....not racing drones using FPV goggles...which is a distinct (and seperate) segment of the hobby. My statement was directed to the potential buyer who will be buying a typical high quality, GPS equipped drone, for shooting video...they wont need to worry about an FCC license if that drone is on the ISM bands. By 'most' I mean the vast majority of camera drones that most of us buy for... you know...shooting pictures and video. And these typically use digital control and video signals on the ISM bands.
  8. Most commercial drones (the ones we buy off the shelf or online) these days operate on the ISM bands, typically 2.4ghz and 5.8ghz...no license needed...as long as power limitations are adhered to. The same bands used for wifi and bluetooth and oh yeah...microwave ovens!
  9. I wish flexible panels were called 'conformal' panels. They will 'conform' to a curved surface and last for a while. But if they are constantly 'flexed', they will fail within the first year or two, depending on the frequency and amount of flexing. Many of the suppliers are long gone, vamoose, awol, cancelled, by the time you need warranty replacements. This is exactly why nearly all of them have weird brand names we have never heard of.
  10. Where I am, 100 gallons or more of propane gets you the bulk rate, around 70c cheaper per gallon, and delivered...check to make sure, but a 120 gallon tank might be just big enough to get you the bulk rate where you are.
  11. Generally speaking, installing aftermarket (probably chinese) LED bulbs into fixtures originally intended for incandescent bulbs results in degraded lighting performance....not to mention the electrical problems you are having. I'd put the normal bulbs back in (use bulb grease) and move on to the next upgrade.
  12. That learners permit should also be covered under the automatic 60 day extension currently being granted to all CDLs and DL's. Also, as a backup plan, you might want to see if any of the third party skills test providers can give you the test you need....I think it would be worth a shot to make a few phone calls. https://www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/scheduleTPSTDriveTest.htm https://www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/cdlTPST.htm
  13. The hired hands in the commercial truck wash can and do aim the brightener wand and nozzle above what is called the 'hot zone'....which is the lower third of the truck....they are probably ill-trained if they do so (or some overspray drifts onto the roof) and in fact these acids should not be used on an RV unless you have a LOT of 'brightwork' in the hotzone...unlikely on most painted RVs but of course some RV bus conversions retain the stainless and aluminum 'skin' of the original bus. It doesn't take much effort to find out what these acids are...here is one wholesale source: https://georgiachemical.com/chemicals,-detergents-and-specialty-products/house-brand-products/house-brand-transportation.html
  14. If this is the case you should avoid commercial truck washes, especially the acid or 'brightener' as it is called. It can and will dissolve VHB.
  15. Buy one with a short warranty (1 year) and a reduced price, and you will save a fair amount of gas (or diesel) and lots of time and aggravation fixing things in your own driveway. Works for me.
  16. On level pavement is one thing, but with the axles articulating up and down over un-even terrain, it is common for a tire to contact a fender if the suspension airbags have been dumped. There are other risks as well. One time, articulating over some un-even hard packed dirt at a truck stop in Roswell, I bent a fuel tap on the bottom of a low-hanging fuel tank when the fitting scraped on the ground. Of course I was fully loaded. Luckily there were no fuel leaks.
  17. I dont know about the clearances on his truck but this might cause one or two tires to rub or scratch on a fender. It might help but proceed with caution!
  18. If your truck has an ATC (automatic traction control) button or switch, turn it off (light will come ON) when a wheel is lifted and spinning. This is in addition to engaging the power divider (interaxle differential).
  19. No actually, after the K9 alerted, they pulled the tourbus into 'secondary', and a few agents boarded the bus...several of Willies bandmates were on board also...along with Willie sitting further back. The agent smelled the odor, and saw a joint in an ash tray near someone else, not Willie. The agent picked it up, asked who it belonged to, and Willie stood up, raised his hand, and said, "that one is mine'...all of them are mine' (or words to that effect)... Obviously he took the 'fall'...not wanting his friends and bandmates in jail for who knows what...they cuffed him, took him to Culberson County jail there in Van Horn, and he posted bail and was out in a few hours.... I'm sure his lawyers got him out of that one by paying a fine...presumably.
  20. I remember the old joke: Dang, these days there is nothing on my VCR except porn. 😱
  21. Ok, yeah good luck with that...it is confusing....
  22. You might need a class A or class B or maybe a class C will do it....you haven't told us what you have, other than a truck and fifth wheel. Not all of those require a class A or B. Depends on the weight ratings. But there is no need to get a CDL to drive your own private RV.
  23. Cool....I've got some old pancakes sitting around I need to inflate. 😎
