  1. Why would you assume I was talking to you when I was quoting the OP, sidpost? I was not directing my helpful information to you. And did you see the word 'true' anywhere in my post? Let's not make this difficult, OK? Yes, typical 4 season RVs have this feature: enclosed and/or heated holding tanks and plumbing...but if you don't care about showers or baths, running water, flushable toilets, or warm water for washing dishes, then heck..you can use almost any RV all year long, 4 entire seasons, even at the Artic Circle if you want.
  2. The primary feature that makes a towable or motorized RV classified as '4 season' is enclosed and/or heated holding tanks and plumbing, and protected dump valves. Next, you are looking for things like better insulation and double pane windows. If you are scoping out any RV and the salesman claims it is 4 season, and you look underneath and see that the fresh and drain plumbing is easily visible and the holding tanks are naked...then you are not looking at a 4 season RV.
  3. Bumping a 'zombie thread'... Universal Radio is currently in shutdown mode. They don't have much left.
  4. Correct, and I think this concept should apply to other remote and gig workers also. BTW...I began working in logistics and transportation in 1976 and began my actual trucking career in 1982 and none of us ever paid a speck of income tax in any state other than the state we lived in....the driver's tax 'home' was based on the address that was printed on our drivers license. IF it was even 'possible' to owe state income taxes in the other states we drove thru, none of us had ever heard of it happening. How would a state even know you personally passed thru it 20 or 100 times that year? (not referring to highway fuel taxes here, those WERE paid) Of course back then, a truck driver was filling out paper logs (which were only for showing to DOT officers when requested) and was practically 'invisible' while on the job...no software or apps existed to track the truck or the driver, and the ONLY way to communicate with the dispatcher was using a payphone once or twice a day to tell them where you were, and if you were 'on-time' to your delivery.
  5. Yep, always exceptions to the rules. Truck length laws are way off topic so I wont follow that rabbit into it's rabbit hole...not this time anyway! But mainly, my point is that gig and remote workers should have a simple procedure to determine their 'tax home' just like transportation workers do.
  6. I'm sure glad this accounting mess doesn't apply to truck drivers. It would be impossible to figure out a truck driver's yearly federal and state taxes if he or she had to figure how much work they did and how much they got paid in each and every state they pass thru and pickup and deliver cargo in and out of. Same thing applies to railroad, bus, and airliner crews. This devisive tax mess needs to be streamlined for other employees also.
  7. I installed a version of this Chrome OS on an old laptop years ago...when it was called CloudReady, by Neverware. It worked but since there was no specific power management or other power saving features, the battery life on the laptop went from more than 6 hours to about 2 hours. Some bits of hardware stopped working entirely...like the built-in ethernet port and SDR card reader. Driver issues, most likely. Maybe on a desktop it might be worth a try...but in my case, when Windows 10 reaches its expiration date on this old desktop, I will just load a Linux distro with long term support and be done with it.
  8. Ummm....why? I'm trying to think of an app...any app...on my smartphone that I would want to spend money to upgrade the desktop or laptop hardware and then tie up my desktop or laptop with trying to run it... Angry birds?...voice recorder?..weather radar?..alarm clock?...nope....gps?...camera?...ain't happnin....twitter?....facebook?...google maps?...photos? gmail?...already on my browser... Zoom..itunes....Youtube....Netflix...I can already do those.... Just not feelin it.
  9. BRrRRrrrRRRrrrrrRRRrrrrrrrRRRrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make it STOP!
  10. When I typed out my recommendation for a 'smallish' trailer, there had been nothing mentioned previously about keeping a wife, friends and family happy. I double checked. Don't go back and edit because I made copies. There were DOZENS or maybe hundreds of statements and sentences beginning with *I*...need this....*I* need that... So...now it's 'WE' who need a rig that does it ALL. Keeps the wife happy, Uncle Bob and Cousin Sue will have a comfy place to sleep in the 45 foot long bunkhouse 5th wheel (with 4 slides!) and they will be watching the big screen while you drive 30 miles away stomping out fires or handing out bandaids and bottles of water. The neighbor with 3 kids and a dog will enjoy your satellite TV on the big-screen televator and the kids and dogs will love the inflatable pool. They all might even leave you a cold biscuit when you come in at 3 am busted and bruised from helping a needy and worthy community of your choosing that's near a really large, flat, pull thru campsite with full hookups. "Analysis paralysis" has set in and you will never get anywhere that way. You are trying to check ALL the boxes...instead of some of them. If this answer bothers you then you are not ready for this. It sounds like you are going to need about $175,000 to fix this problem but the 2-legged and 4-legged tag-alongs will certainly be happy. Good luck.
  11. Given the above requirements and parameters, I suggest keeping all the gear in the pickup topper and pull a modest sized travel trailer. Modest sized being important. Don't get 'wowed' by a nice 35ft travel trailer. Stay small and maneuverable. A 22-25 footer would be about perfect, and depending on the particulars of your F-350, you probably wont even need all the extra WD hardware and sway control gizmos. Find the MINIMUM living space you can tolerate (maybe even a 20 footer or less) and your pickup will barely know it's back there....making the trips so much more enjoyable. Arriving at your destination during some kind of disaster relief effort and then spending an hour or two transferring a hitch out of the way and all your gear into the pickup, then when you are finished, reversing all of this effort, mistakes can happen, or gear can get left behind or misplaced easily. With the loaded P/U and small T/T you can set up (or hitch up) and pull out in 10 minutes or less...compared to a 5th wheel and transferring lots of totes full of gear back and forth repeatedly which could be a real pain at say, 11:00 at night when you've been driving all day. Suppose it's raining and windy and cold as you know what. Or ice and snow is caked in the pickup bed and all over your 5th wheel hitch making it a pain to mess with. Or maybe it's 109 degrees at 10:00 am and here you are about to pass out from the heat and exertion. No thanks. Not all disasters happen during pleasant 70 degree weather...as you probably know. And of course, YMMV.
  12. If I paid $800 for a phone the damn thing better come with a charger! 🤣
  13. Yep, somewhere there are 500,000 pounds of ore with your name on them waiting to be mined for this one EV. 😉
  14. Yes since I helped finance this, I'm watching it also. 💲
  15. My reply was directed at odigity...and RV warranties are almost worthless...the lawyer lingo with all the escape clauses proves that. In most cases, for most of us, in most situations, if the day ends in 'Y' your warranty is void...if you even have a warranty. I just fix stuff and move on. Hold my beer while I have installed bug screens on all my RV furnaces since 1996.
  16. With no vent cover you may have some flying or crawling critters that got in there and made a home...mud daubers, wasps, moths, spiders and their babies, etc. These critters are often attracted to the smell of propane. It looks to me like a flame caused by the critters or debris flaming out...the backfiring seems to get less severe as the debris is burned up. Or so it seems to me. Yeah, there is supposed to be a cover and it's also a good idea to buy an aftermarket 'mud dauber' screen and install it.
  17. This is the company I do business with (when buying LP and LP parts and fittings) you might give them a call or fire off an email. https://www.wtgfuels.com/about-wtg-fuels/ https://www.wtgfuels.com/wtg-locations/#wpsl-search-wrap The main office is in Midland/Odessa area along I-20. I have no idea if they will ship out a regulator...if you find they will only sell locally here in Texas, I can probably (POSSIBLY?) buy the one you need and send it along. And of course the one you need will probably not be in stock anywhere in the company...but you never know! 🛒 Good luck!
  18. Have him inquire at a local propane retailer. They certainly keep them in stock around here.

    Trucks on auction

Gonna be interesting to see how much these sell for: https://www.assiter.com/auctions/10200-Tri-State-Oilfield-Services-Auction-?page=1&search=&filter[auction_lot_status][0]=100&filter[category]=1844&sort=&lotsTotal=5&pageSize=100&playSoundEnabled=true They've been in oilfield service so they have had a rough life. Lots of other stuff on the auction block but I really don't need any 120 ton Manitowoc cranes or 76 foot long office trailers! 🤔
  21. Loading an Apple OS on old windows pc hardware is do-able, creating a 'hackintosh' as they are called, but it 'ain't for beginners'.... Linux is much easier to load on old PCs...the hard part is deciding which distro you want.
  22. "The Scary but Excited"..... Aww Janean, you don't sound all that 'scary' to me.... 😎
  23. Going to work for a testosterone-infused truck maker and then complaining and suing because, it's a testosterone-infused workplace. Kinda like buying a house near the airport and then complaining about the aircraft noise.
