    Hitch Failures

Has anyone thought about making lubable pins for those pivot points? Seems that it would not be that hard to do with a lathe and drill press, unless I am missing something.
  2. Agreed, that would be social distancing for sure, at least in most cases.
  3. Social distancing practices this year will likely be the order of the event.
  4. I found that they have a location in Blythe, CA not far from Quartzsite. FYI. Have seen many Lowes delivery trucks being outfitted there.
  5. Good idea to try ceramic. I removed the decals from the Alfa. Tried lots of things, best was heat gun with plastic razor blades and the drill mounted erasers for some of the more stubborn places. Then cleaned the glue with Xylene, did not do much damage to the trailer compared to other solvents. Did not try WD40, but some say it works well.
  6. I had an Alfa that was chalking a bit. Did the typical buff and polish, etc., then tried Poli-Glo. Smelled just like Johnson floor wax. Applied as instructed but not aware of how it held up long term as we sold the rig less than a year later. The short term was amazing. And we intended on putting on some vinyl decals if we decided that the all white was too much.
  7. I just got my '07 GMC Sierra CC DRW Duramax/Allison back from the AC shop. Turned out that the wiring repair(rabbits got into engine compartment and chewed a bunch of wires) done last summer was not done correctly. Some connectors not properly crimped so bad connections. The owner of the shop told me he thoughts because the symptom was AC was coming on and going off intermittently, that it may have been due to a "pressure switch" in the system that is self-resetting. It disconnects the compressor under high pressure, which would seem to appear under high loads, and then resets automatically. It would seem that you may have a similar condition. I encourage you to seek out a reputable local AC repair shop, use Yelp feedbacks, and have them check it out. Undoubtably, they would be more familiar with AC problems in your locale.
  8. Your research is RV Parks, mine is private parties renting their lots since they wont be there. My link gets you to those types of lots, not RV parks.
  9. Maybe this will help. https://yuma.craigslist.org/search/hhh?query=rv lot for rent&sort=rel
  10. I have found lots of available lots advertised on Craigslist. Some for rent and some for sale. I am thinking that some might be looking to eliminate costs by selling lots since they(if Canadians) are not able to come this winter. I went to the Yuma CL and just entered RV Lots and found many listings.
  11. I have seen 2 different items used for DROMS/storage on back of big trucks. 1- shorter box truck boxes, sometimes found used and left alone or modified to suit. 2- small trailers without the axles and tires. Often have drop down gate or barn doors, your choice. Can also source these used. Remove the axles/tires and sell then mount the box to the bed. Seems would be a cheaper option to $8500 for a new purpose built drom box. Depends on what the need is.
  12. In my continuing search for a Volvo truck, I came across a candidate that I thought I would investigate. It was listed for $5000.00. Said it was a D13 at 485 with an IShift. I thought, whats the catch??? The pics further down the string showed that the compressor has broken 2 of the 3 studs and the other has damaged threads. Figured it wasnt my 1st time removing broken studs as I used to be a maintenance mechanic on manufacturing equipment(Charmin & Bounty machines). After communicating with the guy, clearly he was frustrated(might even say really pissed off) because he bought the truck a couple week ago and he believes the seller knew about the problem but didnt disclose it. So he had a truck that he couldnt use yet for jobs that he needed to complete so that he could fix the truck. I remember Jack saying that you need some $$$ set aside for these events, as they do happen. Needless to say, I passed on this candidate, figuring what else has been neglected.

    smart issue

Or a knife type battery disconnect. Yes, I bet Wilma isnt going to put "10mm wrench" on her grocery list.
  14. Perhaps adding battery capacity would be something that you should consider. Your 300W can help keep the battery bank up, and then have the genie in case you fall below allowable capacity. Keep in mind that the refer you should run on LP as much as possible. 1 single wet cell battery will only provide 50% capacity of what the battery is rated for. If you are to add battery/ies to create a bank, consider that all batteries should installed at the same time, as new batteries will mirror the capacity of the older battery. So, if you add, lets say, 3 batteries to make a 4 battery bank, you really might not be helping your rig out to the FULL capacity of the new batteries. A 3-4YO battery is nearing the end of its useful life, esp considering that RV manufaturers dont provide the best quality when putting batteries into their product.
  15. If you want to maximize the efficiency of your LP usage, dont use the RV furnace and change over to a catalytic heater. No fan and over 95% efficient as opposed to ~35% efficient for the RV furnace. That can equate to using 3X more LP to do the same heating. And with 100# cylinders, that can help that amount to last awhile.
  16. A really loaded question. There are many manufacturers and customers for all of them. Each has pluses and minuses. Depends on what you are looking for. New or used. New to RVing or some or alot of experience. Handy and willing to remodel and repair or need factory warranty because you arent handy.
  17. As a welder, this is my best practice. I dont take the chance. Hi Jim, say hello to Wilma from her "Niece" Roxanne
  18. Keep in mind that gas powered generators, even those installed into the MH, can be converted to run on propane. I have a Yamaha 6600 that I converted and it works well but does use lots of LP. A MH tank can only be filled by going to the fueling station but can also add accomodations for portables tanks. As well, might a dedicated battery bank with solar and an inverter for just this purpose be an option? Then the generator can be used as a backup for those times when sun isnt enough to charge the batteries sufficiently.
  19. The best practice even if disconnecting the batteries. Disconnecting the batteries is VERY GOOD to do.
  20. There are many options for air spring upgrades available that work well. I had a Dolphin with the F53 chassis(Ford 460) and those helped alot. Nice part of this setup was 16" wheels and so coach was not as tall as many with larger wheels, but also lower tire weight capacity.
  21. As a contractor installing equipment in warehouses, I have to weld on every job. Some locations require masks and dont wear them, some locations will not let you in UNLESS you wear a mask and everything in between. What I know is that I wont weld without my hood, gloves, welding shirt, work boots, long pants and safety glasses. That has become the norm because we see that the results of NOT FOLLOWING this behavior is detrimental to MY WELL BEING. I am in the higher risk group by virtue of my age(over 60), but I still work where I can(not all places are available so my business is down +40%). So one more piece of PPE is not a know out factor for me in this time. I am grateful that I have some work and that I can live with my sales of this much. Not every one is like me. Unemployment insurance is not available to self-employed people(of which I am one) and so the basis for my being grateful. I am nervous about getting sick, from covid or something else, but this is the life that exists at this time and I can only do the best that I can with the information and knowledge that is available to ME. I make my choices for MY circumstances. I am sorry you are not working, Glenn, and I hope that changes soon. I only wish I could help you further, but I dont have that option. Try to be strong, take care of your wife, we are all pretty resilient and should come out of this but for the 183K+ people that succombed to this, I feel sad and remorseful for them and their families. Considering that alternative, I will try to focus on being grateful and wear my PPE. Dont like it but...wear it.
  22. I hate it when that happens. You're not alone. I have done it plenty of times, not on purpose, of course.
  23. Seems like so many things in our world are nothing close to normal, BUT, wearing of masks is quickly becoming a "new normal". I'm OK with that. Opinions aside, I am willing to do it for those around me.
  24. Its why we bought it. 2004 Kountry Aire 38BLSE. We like it. Also REALLY enjoy the powered steps and landing instead of just stairs. The "belly" is great for those small things needing stored but sometimes get lost in large basement storage, like blocks, jacks, hoses, cords, etc. We find its build to be superior to many others, although compared to the Teton, they are similar in quality. Our Teton is only 33'. We use it for National Parks where the Newmar is longer for those areas.
  25. So how do you manage the need for a generator when at night or in inclement weather? I am assuming your generator is NOT auto or remote start. Are your calculations for AC running consumption including battery storage capacity? I read of another 5er with 2000W of solar, 8 batteries and run mini split as needed while boondocking without any need for generator, unless multiple days of insufficient sunshine. I dont have a sufficient solar system in place and am working on moving to a fitting design, so "inquiring minds want to know"
