  1. Great minds think alike. I have a plan for that when I get it. Hope it will be successful.
  2. I found this that I am planning on fabbing a pair of doors for and then install as a DROM. Sure appears that it will store plenty of tools and equipment. I am hoping to be able to bring my fab tools and an inverter welder.
  3. Perfect. Thanks for the input and yes, yours sounds like a fuel issue. I also had something like that going on with my Duramax after a filter change. Discovered o-ring was damaged in 1 small area(this after a $600 tow) and it was sucking air so it was doing exactly what you described. I changed the o-ring, primed it well and not a problem since(months ago).
  4. Hey Jim, I was chasing the same issues in my IH a year or so ago. I was sure it was a fuel problem. I put a topic/question on this forum and someone asked about my batteries. I dismissed it, thinking that it seemed to be fuel related. It progressively became more difficult starting the truck and I also had the same observations as you had about the priming sequence and fuel appearing as I tirelessly primed the filter and fuel system. As it continued to give me trouble, I went back to review some of the answers. So then I started charging the batteries to eliminate this as a possibility. Well, even after a nice long charging period, same result. I then tried the 50A fast charge, and voila, it started right up. Well, I then had the batteries load tested and discovered a bad battery and the others were all following. Changed the batteries, and never had a problem after that. The explanation I was given was that those engines need certain RPMs to start and if off, even a little, they struggle or wont start. Hope this helps, at least for some info. BTW-my batteries were quality but 7YO. Also, you told me about an issue that I should check on my new to me 730, and to replace the part before it became a problem, which you said you didnt do. What was that? I have the truck here and although its 13YO, it only has >85K miles, so disuse can be a contributor to some parts. I am also considering singling long but not sure all the factors that will be affected by doing that.
  5. Might be helpful to know where Joe is. It is a big country and we even have some people that post from other parts of the world. So location is essential.
  6. Bump!? Anybody else have input?
  7. BTW- he did not recommend super singles(he has them because the rig came with them and because of weight reduction he is able to haul more material, so he makes more $ per load), as they have their own issues and with the use we have for our trucks, the impracticality of it outweighs the practicality as well as the cost, tires for super singles are not a savings and the issue of flats without the safety factor of being able to continue on the 1 tire per axle remaining, seems to indicate that they arent the best idea for most of us. Now this is my understanding of his opinion, but I respect his experience.
  8. Interesting that this subject was started. I am considering the options of what to do with that issue since I have 8 22.5s dated 2007 that are on my new to me 730. I was talking to an associate that runs material with a transfer truck. He bought the truck with all super singles except the fronts. He has been driving this rig for more than 12 years and his perpsective was enlightening. I am now considering singling long, and with the price of tires, he referred me to a guy near me that does it(ironically he is looking for tractor to replace his current one, but is finding mostly dual axle trucks, but he needs single) for around $1600-1800. Deferring the expense of 4 tires($1600-1800) to singling, this is making more sense, but having limited experience, I am still researching the pros & cons.
  9. I got mine. Thank you Henry!!
  10. I guess I didnt go there because I am not sure how current the information is. I was looking for some that have current experience. Although that info is useful, and we also got a link from AM for help, I wonder if there are some options that we could incorporate ie. registered GVWR for instance, that may make the process better. Trying to avoid a Homer Simpson moment, DOHHH!, that may come later in the way of.."I wish I had known that when I registered it".
  11. Henry, Do you have that manual available by PDF? Send my email?
  12. Age discrimination doesnt exist right??? Thanks for the heads up. I'm not in my 70s but good to know that they can do that. Why arent there steps to provide competency? Many insurance companies will provide discounts for seniors when they take classes.
  13. Depends on the generation. Each has its own concerns but some can be worked around.
  14. Working on registering my new to me 730 and have domicile in SD. Trailer already registered there and so was MDT. What should I do to register my HDT in the best and most cost effective way? GVWR? Tires? Value? Are those the important things? Any other that we need to know about? I know many have taken this path and so experienced advise is GREATLY appreciated.
  15. What about a European Turbo Passion for two??
  16. I'm in So Cal and will make my own when I find a car.
  17. Found a 2012 Smart for two Coupe with 49000 miles for $5900. Seems like a fair deal when comparing to other available units. Front and rear bumpers have road rash as it was a commuter car. I know how to paint so, that isnt a knock out for me. What say you?
  18. I bought 4 sheets of 3/4" plywood 2 months ago, over $300. I am on hold too.
  19. Powerstrokes dont have spark plugs This is likely an E350 or E450, E standing for the Econoline style van chassis. FYI
  20. Just got my HDT last week. Considering a Smart and have read that some years are more preferred than others. I have concluded that electric models are not good idea. What about convertibles? All guidance will be appreciated.
  21. Ya, do that manual greasing as part of maintenance items. A good grease should work for a while. Recommend hi-temp grease in that thing.
  22. Love that park. My parents owned a lot there and I helped build their casita Previous comment is pretty right on. I have tried to service a few of these and since they are sealed systems, a service valve setup will have to be installed and then the inquiry will begin because of the pulling vacuum. And with it being an 8YO unit, and by your own words, it gets lots of use, could be money spent without a return. Have you considered a mini split or a portable unit? Mini might be a good option if your rig stays there. (My parents had a 5er that stayed there and they traveled in a Class A during the summer. We lived on the coast of Cali at the time, and it seemed they visited every summer. We built an RV space in our yard where they could come & go.) The portable would work if you travel. I just bought a new one and they work pretty well and not too loud. The dual hose models are pretty efficient.
  23. Or companies are more focused on new business rather than customer retention. Sad to say, but I have not seen any insurance company advertising that was targeted to retaining customers, rather to gain new ones. So it may just be a function of what is being done. People jumping companies to find the cheapest rates, so brokers become more valuable.
  24. Great comment Henry. You and Robert and I all share the same IH4700 history. You and Robert the HDT life(I'm not there yet). I learn something everytime I come here. What a wonderful education and from the comfort of my office. Thank you all!
