  1. What about if you were to make drawers for her? Could incorporate into your tube frame. Skin it with plywood and maybe bedboard as drawer fronts. Find some foam for a top cushion and an angled backrest with a cushion.
  2. What about left and right swing with a latch in the center. Meets her needs.
  3. What about welding a frame out of thin wall tube or angle and TEK screwing your choice of paneling or bead board to it? Could hinge the top for that storage.
  4. Dave Thanks for the update. We are trying to make it for the end of last week of Jan. but as is always the case, the universe has been throwing plenty of obstacles in our path.
  5. My comment was a reply to what Jack posted above. I agree with Kirk in that they are well within MY understanding of the rules but apparently some dont agree. I am VERY APPRECIATIVE to Jack and Chad in their sharing of knowledge and their generosity. They dont have to do that. Their knowledge has value and it generates income for their companies, so we should be appreciative. I only wish that my skill set(mechanical devices and welding/fabrication) were able to be similarly offered in the same way. I would gladly contribute. It is my intention to travel(working my way to semi-retirement) with my welder and gear. Seems there is often someone in need out there.
  6. I am hoping Chad is not on the path to a similar plight as Jack. I totally understand doing some advertising or marketing, but offering advise mainly due to being recognized as being a resource?? Seems to me that some calibration is needed.
  7. What state is this in? I am close to Carslbad in California.
  8. While I agree that campground businesses need to be profitable, I also agree that my personal living budget also needs to be balanced. Cant last long if spending more than what is coming in. In my personal limited KOA experience, many of their parks are lesser quality and so should offer lesser pricing. They sure arent RESORTS!
  9. I gotta get me on of those. Although I am now American, I was born a Canuck and still appreciate my heritage. Came to the US a long time ago. Would enjoy flying the maple leaf.
  10. That is where I want to get to. I am having to replace the cab air bags on mine as they have sat with them folded and the bags have dryrotted. Not leaking now but with a DROM in the works, gotta do it now as getting in there with the DROM in place will be difficult. BTW-Parrformance, thank you for you Utube video on replacing them.
  11. Might it be better to use couplings that use nuts, ferrules and sleeves, as those should minimize leaks in the future and esp since you are using it to extend a length of tubing. I am also considering using a different color tubing for my repairs, so I can identify those lines I have changed.
  12. Good suggestion. I am going to make up a spares kit with some silicone grease, o-rings, some couplings, maybe elbows and straights. I wont be buying from the dealer as I can get better prices elsewhere. Gathering up the o-rings right now.
  13. And so we wonder why we are in the predicament of having too few technicians that can think for themselves, and the ones that can do that are retirement age. I find so many younger people unwilling to listen to the voice of experience or even stand and watch a more experienced tech do work that they couldnt do, so that they can pick up some of those skills. My Gdaughter is a school trained mechanic with a mountain of student loans, and when she encounters an obstacle she cant overcome, the job gets handed over to someone else and instead of her pretending she is in school and learning, out comes the phone and she drifts to some other place without the benefit of what is happening in front of her. I feel bad but I cant teach her to be willing to learn. I can teach her IF she is willing to learn.
  14. I think I found some info here: Just trying to find a kit with silicon o-rings 1/4-5/8
  15. I've seen this mentioned but cant seem to find it. I have an air line leaking at the fitting but I think its the o-ring. Not sure if Volvos use metric tubing & o-rings or 1/4". I want to get the tubing and a bag of o-rings so I can handle the repairs as they come up. Can anyone offer the sizes or P/Ns of the tubing and o-rings? On a side note, before I install my DROM, I have installed an air hose to reach the PS fairing to use for air filling. It is not charged under normal operations, but I think that it might be controlled by a solenoid, perhaps for the commercial slide, and if so, what switch on the dash would operate it? 2008 730
  16. I am outfitting my 730 with a hose quick connect to air up things but I also made an adapter to allow the male quick connect to allow me to use my small compressor so that I can fill the air system without having the truck running. I also use kids bubbles as my leak detector of choice.
  17. Mark, You are probably right. I have only had this LML for 12K+ miles and when I learned about the CP4 issues, Howes has gone into any pumped fuel that the truck gets. It is my service truck and runs 13K#+ so it works. Right now its getting a turbo and actuator. Seems also to be a common problem for those variable vane turbos. They work hard and perform pretty well. Hoping to sell it off early part of next year as my plan to semi retire continues. I figure once I get the Volvo the way I want it and the maintenance/repair things completed, I wont be needing my service truck. I still will have a personal CC DRW Duramax LBZ that will be my everything else truck. I am enjoying the journey.
  18. I hope they do Duramax soon as mine has 162K+ miles. I know I am on borrowed time.
  19. Although, TT are often less expensive, dont require a pickup truck to tow them(heck, our first TT was an 18' Nomad that we towed with our 1972 Monte Carlo) and entire floor is on 1 level. I think it really comes down to personal preference. On a different thought, wait a year or so and you may be able to get some really good bargains on many RVs. The novelty will have worn out, the reality of monthly payments for a trailer that is used sparingly and registration/insurance renewals should create a surplus of used inventory with good prices.
  20. And there are months that are less tolerable, due to weather(heat) so many travel FROM there over the summer. Might help us if we knew what your experience is or what you are willing to consider. Your working with pretty open ended subjects here. Some live in converted vans($800/month to live pssible) all the way to semi-trucks with 53' converted trailers(way more than $800/month), and SO MUCH in between. You tube has lots of personal experiences on this subject with very good perspectives on each type of situation being so unique.
  21. Be cautions that you are sourcing seals or o-rings that are made of a material that will stand up to the liquid being used. Not all of them are able to work with say, brake fluid or diesel. When getting them at hardware stores, they may carry general purpose that could fail in use with certain fluids. Hate to do that job again!
  22. I think the greatest gift you gave yourself is recognizing the situation. That is, at least for me, the most challenging 1st step. Hoping to see you in Q in January. We met you and Newt at the National Rally in '18 but have followed your posts since then. Hang in there, the sun will shine somewhere soon. We are thinking good things for you. BTW- I appreciate your communicating the situation you LIVE with. It answers some of my questions of "what would it be like living in the PNW?" Might be a good place for us to visit just not to live in. We live in the SW, So Cal, and we are tired of brown vegetation. I guess that is why we are working on our retirement and our HDT.
  23. Esp if he has to deal with some of the same regs that the 420 businesses do. All cash, baby!!
  24. A bit on and off topic. What code reader is best for these Volvo engines? I have a D13 DPF. Dont want to buy something just for the Volvo if possible, rather would prefer a multi purpose, auto/truck and big truck. I am assuming something like that exists. If not then some input from those experienced ones is appreciated.
  25. I think that any truck with air will have some leaking, its a matter of how much leaking is acceptable. Or perhaps how much you are willing to accept. It should always be a part of maintenance and part of a regular routine to mitigate those leaks. There are just so many places that air is connected and used. It is a chore to stay on top of them, and just when you think you got them all fixed, well, you take it for a drive and there ya go, another one pops up.
